He was at a time one of Nigerian Pastors who were doing greatly in Europe, Pastor Sunday Adelaja, the disgraced founder of Embassy of the Blessed Kingdom of God for All Nations, Ukraine. He was at a time the presiding pastor of one of the largest churches in the world and one of the highest number of members any pastor could think of in that part of the world.
Anything that has to do with a successful ministry was associated with him, he was the man everyone wanted to be like. In fact, it got to a point in ministry where he was involved in decision making in Ukraine and became a reference point for popular preachers in Nigeria.
His online members are also numerous, his live videos, podcasts, you-tube videos were the talk of the town due to the kind of teachings he churns out, they were glorifying and edifying to the spirit, but like the devil he allowed pride to be his downfall, he placed himself as judge over other men of God especially those based in Nigeria. And that is the beginning of the story of his fall from his exalted position to becoming a pastor without pulpit.
It is even more terrible as he seems to have shun the path of repentance and rather turned himself to a persecutor of the servants of God. His incessant attacks on men of God is an attitude he delved into after he had suffered disgrace and was removed as head of his church during his days of self pride, which has exposed him to several scandals.
He had been accused of soiling his hands with monies meant for the gospel, a fraud case that had opened the door for others allegations like; deception, immorality, adultery and so on. Those who were close to him professed he posses almost everything a Pastor should have but not humility.
At the beginning, criticism of Nigerian Pastors became a sport to while away time for him, he began to attack their teachings, he turned himself to be judge of the character and began to point out the wrongs in their teachings, forgetting the bible asks us not to Judge so we won’t be judged. He pay little or know attention to the fact that his attitude is becoming like the one illustrated in the Bible, the book of Isaiah 14:12-15
“How you have fallen from heaven, O star of the morning, son of the dawn! You have been cut down to the earth, You who have weakened the nations! “But you said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, And I will sit on the mount of assembly In the recesses of the north. ‘I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High. Nevertheless you will be thrust down to Sheol, To the recesses of the pit.’’
The manifestation of his straying from God was made known when his adultery scandal broke out, some women had revealed their affairs with the General Overseer to other area pastors, who made information public and initiated investigation. Though he had earlier repeatedly denied being involved in sexual relationship with parishioners, he was stripped of authority to preaching, and counsel and later removed from leadership of the church inline with the rules of Russian Union of Christians of Evangelical Faith (ROSHVE).
It was however the letter of US based Apostle Tuff Ulissis who has been performing spiritual cleansing on Pastor Adelaja for several years that finally put paid to his office as it contains statements of both married and single women, on how he systematically use various manipulation techniques, flattering words, and his own position to force them into sexual encounters.
In his characteristics of self righteous attribute, the pastor had one month before his confession to sleeping with between 20-30 women both single and married shared a video on his blog titled “Sexual Sin Is Not Enough to Take You to Hell.” though he later deleted it, all in his effort to justify his sinful ways.
He was also accused of being involved in fraud and the dealings of King’s Capital, a financial group led by a former member of his congregation.
Source claimed he has for sometimes been planning to to move from Ukraine to Nigeria for some time before the issue broke out and his strategy wish ordinarily is supposed to have been him seeking repentance and returning to God, is however to intensify his attack of Pastors based here in Nigeria.
The first Man Of God he criticised was the General Overseer Of The Redeemed Christian Church Of God, Pastor E.A Adeboye, he pointed out a mistake in his teaching and called him a lair
In a video published to YouTube, Adelaja replays a video of Adeboye lecturing on the subject ‘Sacrifice Overturns Wrath’ in which he quotes Psalm 41:1-3, using the Scriptural reference to encourage attendees to be generous with their monies. In the video Pastor Adeboye is seen stating “If you are a giver, when you are sick, God will visit you”, while reading out from the bible.
But Adelaja pointed out that Psalm 41 actually states, “Blessed is he who considers the poor; the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble”.
He explained that the context refers to giving to the less privileged, not to a church or pastor. The founder of Embassy of God described Adeboye’s interpretation as a “broad daylight lie. Stating that Adeboye is “twisting the Bible just for people to give to him’’
Few days after his condemnation of Pastor Adeboye, Pastor Sunday Adelaja turned his attention and attack towards Dr. Paul Enenche, the founder of Dunamis International Gospel Center. He accused him of using magic and rituals to perform miracles, this he said without provision of any form of proof, the church members who felt offended however replied him and asked him to face the many scandals hanging on his neck. Bishop David Oyedepo of the Living Faith Mission AKA Winners’ Chapel has also been labeled a scam by this attention seeking pastor.
Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, the founder Of Believers’ World AKA Christ Embassy, Prophet TB Joshua founder of The Synagogue Church Of All Nations, are also not left out of his scathing remarks as he accused them of faking miracles.
It is a matter of time before other Pastors who are doing well with congregation to match it come in his line of fire. What Christians are pondering over now is if the new Pastor Sunday Adelaja is a man waging war against God’s Altar or a man who is desperate for attention with an aim to ride of his supposed prey back into starting his own church in Nigeria.
