Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday, announced the 25 per cent reduction of the tuition fees of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology LAUTECH.
The governor made the promise while paying a thank you visit to the students of the institution.
He promised that the reduction will cut across board, adding that he is still making such move despite the fact that the LAUTECH fee is still the lowest in the entire South-West.
The governor maintained that he has fulfilled his electioneering campaign, having fixed the Under G road and actualised the sole ownership of LAUTECH for Oyo state.
Makinde said: “Let me tell you, the LAUTECH fee is still the lowest in the entire South West. Having said that, I will reduce your fee across the board; whether indigenes or non-indigenes, even new students. There will be a reduction of 25 per cent across board.”
The former minister of aviation and chieftain of People Democratic Party(PDP), Chief Femi Fani-Kayode said majority of Nigerians are not interested in 2023 elections but in separation and referendum.
The outspoken politician made this statement during a press conference on Monday talking about the major problems facing Nigeria.
He noted that people across the country are no longer interested in talking about 2023 or restructuring but rather emphasizing separation and pulling out of the federation.
“What is knocking at our door today is nothing less than full-scale war.Every ethnic nationality in our country is arming up for that war. Most of our people are talking about separation, referendum and self-determination and they are angry”
“The well majority of people in this country, especially the younger ones, in the Southwest, in the southeast, in the middlebelt, in part of the core North itself are no longer talking about these issues. They’re not interested in 2023. They’re decreasingly interested in restructuring. Many of them, I dare say most of them are now talking about separation. They’re talking about leaving the federation. They’re talking about a referendum and that’s a reality of today which most Nigerians and most Nigerian politicians refuse to acknowledge.”
Femi Fani-Kayode urged politicians holding high political office to start acknowledging the reality and start talking about it as the people have been pushed to the edge by the policies of the present administration.
It was earlier reported that a well known human right activist, Omoyele Sowore was shot by a police officer at the Unity Fountain Abuja, while protesting.
Based on that note, the former senator that respected the good people of Kaduna Central Senatorial Zone, Senator Shehu Sani decided to speak. While speaking, he made it know that he visited Omoyele Sowore at the hospital where he is receiving treatment.
Going further, the former senator made it known that Omoyele Sowore is really stable and in high spirit. He further advised Sowore to bring that juju man to the venue of the next protests.
This is really a funny one from Senator Shehu Sani. But on the other side, the shooting of Omoyele Sowore should be condemned in its entirety. The police officer responsible for the shooting should be arrested and punished for doing so. We thank God Almighty that Omoyele Sowore is still alive.
Unknown gunmen on Monday night stormed the residence of Professor Godswill Obioma, strangling him in what his wife suspected to be an assassination.
“The assassins came in and killed him and left without taking anything,” Elizabeth Obioma told Peoples Gazette by telephone on Tuesday morning.
Weeping profusely, Mrs Obioma said her husband had just returned to Minna from a trip to Abuja when the armed men, lurking in his compound, descended on him and strangled him.
A police spokesman did not immediately return a request seeking comments about the development.
Mr Obioma has been facing attempts to remove him from office as the head of NECO, a prominent examination body run by the Nigerian government.
Mr Obioma, 67, was appointed head of NECO barely a year ago on May 14, 2020. He hailed from Abia in Nigeria’s Igbo-dominated South-East region.
The incident came barely a day after Ahmed Gulak, a top politician of the ruling APC, was gunned down in Owerri, raising widespread fears of insecurity.
Nigerians across the 36 federations are ready for “Buhari Must Go” protest, which will hold on June 12. The protest was planned out for Nigerians to state their demands “loud” and “clear” to President Buhari.
The protest is for Nigerians across all the states in Nigeria, and for Nigerians living in diaspora (abroad).
The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has fixed July 24 for the conduct of chairmanship and council elections into the 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas (LCDAs).
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Lagos State chapter, on Monday said it is unsure of winning any council in the forthcoming local government elections in Lagos based on the do-or-die politics being exhibited by the ruling party in the state, All Progressives Congress (APC).
While activities are already in top gear in APC, nothing is happening in the PDP, which is the major opposition party in the state. Many are of the opinion that the PDP may have boycotted the polls as elections into local governments have always been a ‘winner-takes-all’ affair for the ruling party across the country.
However, speaking with reporters Taofik Gani, the PDP’s publicity secretary, said while the party is not boycotting the election, PDP members are skeptical about investing their money because of the do-or-die politics in the APC, which according to him, was witnessed in the conduct of their primaries last Saturday.
“We are not boycotting the election. However, the political environment is not giving people confidence. While we are not boycotting, I am sure there is a lot of cynicism on the part of our candidates who will be spending their hard-earned money. But we are very sure that they have their options to win the election when they are convinced that they are contesting”.
The 65-year-old Nnewi born politician; Joe Igbokwe has defended the national leader of the All Progressive Congress, Bola Tinubu following the accusations from the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu. Joe Igbokwe, the special adviser to the present Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Water Resource and Drainage released a statement on Facebook. The Nigerian politician appealed that Nnamdi Kanu should not attempt to bring his madness to Lagos as a result of his false news.
In Joe Igbokwe’s words, ‘Our attention has been drawn to Nnamdi Kanu’s video circulating on social media that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked Yourba youths to burn down Alaba International market and blame it on IPOB. This is a lie from the pit of hell.’
Joe Igbokwe also added that, ‘As leader of Ndigbo in APC in Lagos and South West Nigeria, I am appealing to Nnamdi not to bring his madness to Lagos or anywhere in the South West and even Northern Nigeria.’
The APC politician, Joe Igbokwe for a while has been an opposing force against the activities of IPOB and ESN. Share your thoughts about his reaction as he defends Bola Tinubu.

“I’m leaving because the club no longer has the faith in me” – Zidane writes open letter to Madrid fans
The French coach reveals the reasons that led to his departure from Madrid in an open letter, published exclusively in AS: “I’m not jumping overboard, nor am I tired of coaching”
Zidane’s open letter to Real Madrid fans: “I’m leaving because the club no longer has the faith in me I need”
Dear Real Madrid fans,
For more than 20 years, from the first day I arrived in Madrid and wore the white shirt, you’ve shown me your love. I’ve always felt that there was something special between us. I’ve had the enormous honour of being a player and the coach of the greatest club ever, but above all I’m just another Madrid fan. For all these reasons I wanted to write this letter, to say goodbye to you and explain my decision to leave the coaching job.
When, in March 2019, I accepted the offer to return to Real Madrid after a break of eight months it was, of course, because President Florentino Pérez asked me, but also because all of you asked me every day to do so. When I met any of you in the street I felt your support and the desire to see me with the team again. Because I share the values of Real Madrid; this club belongs to its members, its fans and the entire world. I’ve tried to follow these values in everything I have done, and I’ve tried to be an example. Being at Madrid for 20 years is the most beautiful thing that’s happened to me in my life and I know I owe that entirely to the fact Florentino Pérez backed me in 2001, he fought to get me, to bring me here when some people were against it. I say it from the heart when I say that I will always be grateful to the ‘presi’ for that. Always.
“I share the values of Real Madrid; this club belongs to its members, its fans and the entire world. I’ve tried to follow these values in everything I have done, and I’ve tried to be an example”
Zidane
I have now decided to leave and I want to properly explain the reasons. I’m going, but I’m not jumping overboard, nor am I tired of coaching. In May 2018 I left because after two and a half years, with so many victories and so many trophies, I felt the team needed a new approach to stay at the very highest level. Right now, things are different. I’m leaving because I feel the club no longer has the faith in me I need, nor the support to build something in the medium or long term. I understand football and I know the demands of a club like Real Madrid. I know when you don’t win, you have to leave. But with this a very important thing has been forgotten, everything I built day-to-day has been forgotten, what I brought to my relationships with the players, with the 150 people who work with and around the team. I’m a natural-born winner and I was here to win trophies, but even more important than this are the people, their feelings, life itself and I have the sensation these things have not been taken into account, that there has been a failure to understand that these things also keep the dynamics of a great club going. To some extent I have even been rebuked for it.
“I’m leaving because I feel the club no longer has the faith in me I need, nor the support to build something in the medium or long term”
Zidane
I want there to be respect for what we have achieved together. I would have liked my relationship with the club and the president over the past few months to have been a little different to that of other coaches. I wasn’t asking for privileges, of course not, just a little more recollection. These days the life of a coach in the dugout at a big club is two seasons, little more. For it to last longer the human relationships are essential, they are more important than money, more important than fame, more important than everything. They need to be nurtured. That’s why it hurt me so much when I read in the press, after a defeat, that I would be sacked if I didn’t win the next game. It hurt me and the whole team because these deliberately leaked messages to the media negatively influenced the squad, they created doubts and misunderstandings. Luckily I had these amazing lads who were with me to the death. When things turned ugly they saved me with magnificent victories. Because they believed in me and knew I believed in them. Of course I’m not the best coach in the world, but I’m able to give everyone, whether it’s a player, a member of the coaching staff or any employee, the strength and confidence they need in their job. I know perfectly well what a team needs. Over these 20 years at Madrid I’ve learnt that you, the fans, want to win, of course, but above all you want us to give our all: the coach, the staff, the employees and of course the players. And I can assure you we’ve given 100% of ourselves to this club.
“Of course I’m not the best coach in the world, but I’m able to give everyone, whether it’s a player, a member of the coaching staff or any employee, the strength and confidence they need in their job”
Zidane
I’d like to take this opportunity to send a message to the journalists. I’ve given hundreds of press conferences and unfortunately we have spoken very little of football, though I know that you love football, this sport that brings us together. However, and without any desire to criticise or lecture, I would have liked the questions not to have always been about controversy, that we might have talked more often about the game and above all the players, who are and always will be the most important thing in this sport. Let’s not forget about football, let’s care for it.
