Ortom’s Aide, Christopher Dega Shot Dead In Jos

Christopher Dega, a senior special assistant on security to Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, has been shot dead.

Dega, a retired police officer, was killed in Jos, the Plateau State capital, Ortom’s spokesman Terver Akase confirmed.

Before his retirement from the police, Dega had served as commissioner of police in Borno and Edo states.

Dega’s killing occurred few days after the murder of a former political adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed Gulak.

Gulak, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), was shot dead on Saturday night by some gunmen in Owerri, Imo State.

Imo State governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has described the killing of his friend and political ally Ahmed Gulak as a “clear case of political assassination”.

Imo State Police Command on Sunday night claimed four persons who participated in the murder of Ahmed Gulak have been killed dead in a shoot-out at Aboh-Mbaise.

Gulak was killed on his way to the airport in Owerri, where he was going to catch a flight to Abuja.

Imo State Police Command spokesmen Bala EIkana said the driver of the late Gulak identified the dead bodies as those of the men who assassinated the late politician.

“Eyewitnesses account, especially the account given by the driver of the vehicle that was conveying Ahmed Gulak to the Airport before the attack, gave a vivid description of the assailants and the vehicles they used in carrying out the attack,” Elkana said.

We are tired of Observing one minute silence – Senate presdient decries Spate of killings

President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, on Tuesday, decried the spate of killings of Nigerians across the country occasioned by growing security challenge.

He expressed his dissaffection on the floor of the chamber in his concluding remarks after the Senate had observed a minute silence, six times, in honour of certain Nigerians who lost their lives.

Amongst those the Red Chamber held one-minute silence six times during plenary to honour were Ahmed Gulak, former Presidential Adviser on Political Matters to former President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan; the late Chief of Army Staff, General Ibrahim Attahiru who died penultimate week in a plane crash; citizens killed by bandits in Niger state and those who lost their lives to gas explosions and boat accident in Ogun and Kebbi states, respectively.

The President of the Senate said the National Assembly was determined to step-up legislative interventions to protect Nigerians against the heightening spate of insecurity in the country.

He said: “Let me observe that we have observed about six one-minute silences and most of it was to pray for the repose of the souls of Nigerians who were murdered or killed by criminals.

“It is very important that we step up our legislative intervention in ensuring that we protect the lives and properties of Nigerians to reduce the incidence of one-minute silence.

“I believe that the Senate and, indeed, the National Assembly, working together with the Executive and getting the support of Nigerians, we can bring the much needed succor to our people, and that is why we are here.”

Nigerians Not Interested in 2023 Elections But In Separation – Fani Kayode Makes Shocking Revelation

The former minister of aviation and chieftain of People Democratic Party(PDP), Chief Femi Fani-Kayode said majority of Nigerians are not interested in 2023 elections but in separation and referendum.

The outspoken politician made this statement during a press conference on Monday talking about the major problems facing Nigeria.

He noted that people across the country are no longer interested in talking about 2023 or restructuring but rather emphasizing separation and pulling out of the federation.

“What is knocking at our door today is nothing less than full-scale war.Every ethnic nationality in our country is arming up for that war. Most of our people are talking about separation, referendum and self-determination and they are angry”

“The well majority of people in this country, especially the younger ones, in the Southwest, in the southeast, in the middlebelt, in part of the core North itself are no longer talking about these issues. They’re not interested in 2023. They’re decreasingly interested in restructuring. Many of them, I dare say most of them are now talking about separation. They’re talking about leaving the federation. They’re talking about a referendum and that’s a reality of today which most Nigerians and most Nigerian politicians refuse to acknowledge.”

Femi Fani-Kayode urged politicians holding high political office to start acknowledging the reality and start talking about it as the people have been pushed to the edge by the policies of the present administration.

Bring that Juju man to the venue of your Next protest – Sheu Sani Advise Sowore

It was earlier reported that a well known human right activist, Omoyele Sowore was shot by a police officer at the Unity Fountain Abuja, while protesting.

Based on that note, the former senator that respected the good people of Kaduna Central Senatorial Zone, Senator Shehu Sani decided to speak. While speaking, he made it know that he visited Omoyele Sowore at the hospital where he is receiving treatment.

Going further, the former senator made it known that Omoyele Sowore is really stable and in high spirit. He further advised Sowore to bring that juju man to the venue of the next protests.

This is really a funny one from Senator Shehu Sani. But on the other side, the shooting of Omoyele Sowore should be condemned in its entirety. The police officer responsible for the shooting should be arrested and punished for doing so. We thank God Almighty that Omoyele Sowore is still alive.

Breaking: Neco Registrar, Professor Obima Assassinated in Minna

Unknown gunmen on Monday night stormed the residence of Professor Godswill Obioma, strangling him in what his wife suspected to be an assassination.

“The assassins came in and killed him and left without taking anything,” Elizabeth Obioma told Peoples Gazette by telephone on Tuesday morning.

Weeping profusely, Mrs Obioma said her husband had just returned to Minna from a trip to Abuja when the armed men, lurking in his compound, descended on him and strangled him.

A police spokesman did not immediately return a request seeking comments about the development.

Mr Obioma has been facing attempts to remove him from office as the head of NECO, a prominent examination body run by the Nigerian government.

Mr Obioma, 67, was appointed head of NECO barely a year ago on May 14, 2020. He hailed from Abia in Nigeria’s Igbo-dominated South-East region.

The incident came barely a day after Ahmed Gulak, a top politician of the ruling APC, was gunned down in Owerri, raising widespread fears of insecurity.

LG Elections: Only Violent Politicians Can Win Elections In Lagos –PDP

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has fixed July 24 for the conduct of chairmanship and council elections into the 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas (LCDAs).

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Lagos State chapter, on Monday said it is unsure of winning any council in the forthcoming local government elections in Lagos based on the do-or-die politics being exhibited by the ruling party in the state, All Progressives Congress (APC).

While activities are already in top gear in APC, nothing is happening in the PDP, which is the major opposition party in the state. Many are of the opinion that the PDP may have boycotted the polls as elections into local governments have always been a ‘winner-takes-all’ affair for the ruling party across the country.

However, speaking with reporters Taofik Gani, the PDP’s publicity secretary, said while the party is not boycotting the election, PDP members are skeptical about investing their money because of the do-or-die politics in the APC, which according to him, was witnessed in the conduct of their primaries last Saturday.

“We are not boycotting the election. However, the political environment is not giving people confidence. While we are not boycotting, I am sure there is a lot of cynicism on the part of our candidates who will be spending their hard-earned money. But we are very sure that they have their options to win the election when they are convinced that they are contesting”.
