2023: Obasanjo Names Presidential Aspirants that Should Be In Jail

Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday said some presidential aspirants should be in jail.
The elder statesman noted that some politician who are interested in becoming president should be in jail if the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) performs its assignment.

Obasanjo stated this while speaking at an international symposium to mark his 85th birthday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The event was a teamed theme, ‘Africa Narrative with Nigeria Situation’.

He further stated that though he has received presidential aspirants at his residence, Obasanjo added that he has not endorsed any aspirants.

Obasanjo said that he is not sponsoring a presidential aspirant from the south in the 2023 general election.

The former president stated that he would take his time and consult before throwing his weight behind a presidential aspirant.

Obasanjo said, “As the quadrennial madness builds a head of steam and the runners and riders crisscross the nation in the quest for nomination as the party flag bearer to the highest office in the land, I read and hear about endorsement and statements in support of candidates that I frankly have not made and forming next political parties that I can never get involved in. I was told that social media credited to me the names of three people from the south that I am sponsoring for the Presidency in 2023.

“My friend, Professor Ango Abdullah, who brought this to my knowledge remarked that he did not believe that I made such a statement because it was out of my character. I have neither named names nor stated my position. In a situation like the one we are in, I will not rush into naming names without necessary consultations and well-defined principles and criteria. We need to be clear about what Nigeria needs today and why Nigeria needs it. Only then can we answer the question of how that will inform us of the criteria and characteristics for determining who.”

He said since democracy started in 1999, elections rather than progress in the country has been going back.

Obasanjo said, “Since 1999, we have changed from one political party or another we have manoeuvred and manipulated to the point that election results are no longer reflections of the will of the people and we seemed to be progressively going back rather than going forward politically, economically and socially.

“We have activities without requiting actions and personnel to move us forward. If we continue in the same pattern of recycling, sweet-word campaigning, manoeuvring without the substance of integrity, honesty, patriotism, commitment, outreach, courage, understanding of what makes a nation and what make for development, we will soon have to say goodbye to Nigeria as a nation.

“I cast a cursory look at some of the people running around and those for whom people are running around. If EFCC and ICPC will have done their jobs properly and been supported adequately by the judiciary, most of them would be in jail. Any person who has no integrity in small things cannot have integrity in big things.”

He noted that henceforth, presidential aspirants must be x-rayed, profiled and must be educated.

Obasanjo said, “Such a person will have to lead what remains of the nation to courageously continue on the path of nation-building as a national team leader, no matter on what platform he or she assumes leadership. No one can do it alone. We must, however, stop sacrificing character, track records and performance on the altar of ethnic, regional or religious jingoism. As the watchman counts on daybreak, so too do I count on Nigerians and Nigeria to bring forth that person.”

2023: Tinubu Reveals How Long He Plans To Stay In Power

APC Chieftain and presidential aspirant, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has revealed how long he plans to spend in power.
He stated this during his presidential consultations with traditional rulers in Ondo state.

The chieftain said that he is the best candidate for the 2023 presidency and he would not give any excuse for failure.

He stated that he would drop the baton after spending eight years in power. He went ahead to list some of the things he plans to do when he gets into power.

“When I rule for eight years consecutively I will drop it. The smartest and someone with the most followers will take over from me after I finish my term.

“I’m seriously bothered about the development of Nigeria. I was behind Mimiko for two years to claim his mandate. For Fayemi, I stood with him for three while trying to take his mandate. For Aregbesola, it was three years and ten months.

” I don’t run away from the battle. I’m very particular and passionate about democracy. During MKO we tried but we could not get it. When they came to meet us we seek your support and Buhari became the President.

“I have informed Buhari so that people would not say who did I inform before taking the decision.

” I’m the most qualified to become the president. I will ensure that our children get employed, there will be industries and all-around development across the country. “

2023: Ooni, Alaafin Meet Aregbesola Over Feud With Tinubu

The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi and the Alaafin of Oyo Oba Lamidi Adeyemi have met with the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola at his private residence with the aim of settling the rift between him and Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Recall that Naija News earlier reported that highly placed sources had said that stakeholders in Yoruba land, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party, and some influential leaders of thought in Nigeria are making efforts to bring the duo back together.

The reconciliation is said to be paramount for the success of the APC in the upcoming governorship election in Osun State and the 2023 general presidential election.

The source said: “I can say authoritatively that reconciliation efforts to close the rank between Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola are underway, and already beginning to yield positive results. I am confident that sooner than expected, the two APC chieftains will embrace each other and continue to work together as brothers.”

New reports have emerged from the palace revealing that the reconciliation is moving foward smoothly and both parties have shown that they are interested in putting their differences aside, Vanguard reports.

The involvement of the monarchs in the situation has reportedly helped in making the situation between the duo better.

2023: Bola Tinubu Breaks Silence On His Health Status

Presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, on Friday clarified that he is not sick, adding that he has what it takes to lead Nigeria.
The National Leader of the ruling APC stated this when he visited the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo in Osun State.

Tinubu further stated that he wants to serve Nigeria and has the quality to serve and make Nigeria great.

The former Governor of Lagos State while speaking at the palace said he wishes to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari when his tenure ends in 2023.

He said, “I didn’t apply for a job as a bricklayer. The job I’m applying for requires a brain. I’m not sick. I only repaired my kneel. I’m not applying for the relay race and I’m not a horse. I have the quality to serve and make Nigeria great. I want to serve my country. I have the brain.

“I came here to seek for your prayers. I am here for your support and cooperation. You have known my intention already. You have known what I am aspiring for; all I need is your prayers.

“I have been supporting the people here and there. We have moved all over the country for one candidate or the other especially in 2015 when we campaigned for President Muhammadu Buhari after his emergence, we equally supported him in 2019.

“As you all know, what the Constitution says is just two terms for a president after which another person succeeds him. That is what we are going around the country to let our people know that I am ready to succeed d the incumbent President after the expiration of his second term.

“As you all know, what we are doing is to succeed him and I want to vie for President. I want to succeed Buhari and I can’t do it alone without your support. I want your continued support. With your support, it will come to pass.

“I am determined, I am prepared and I am ready for it. God that put our traditional rulers in their various thrones will not forsake us. He will put us there. I want to be President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I want your continued prayers.”

2023 Presidency: What Tinubu Means By ‘Fight Dirty’ – Media Aide Explains

The media aide to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Tunde Rahman has clarified that his principal was misinterpreted on his statement about ‘fighting dirty’ in the 2023 presidential election.
The clarification was given in a statement on Monday following the backlash and public outcry that greeted Tinubu’s statement during his visit to Oyo State on Sunday.

As earlier reported by Naija News, the presidential aspirant visited the Alaafin of Oyo as well as the Olubadan-designate as part of his ongoing nationwide consultation.

While speaking at the residence of the Olubadan-designate, Senator Lekan Balogun, Tinubu had said he can’t be intimidated in the presidential race.

“I’m out to become the president of Nigeria. No intimidation, no blackmail can stop me. I have read about a Greek philosopher that if you want to fight a pig, you must be ready to be smeared and I’m ready to be dirty,” Tinubu had said.

However, the portion of his statement where he talked about getting dirty overshadowed most of what he said and generated reactions from various quarters and stakeholders.

Reacting to the reactions and backlashes that followed, Rahman on Monday came out to explain that his principal was quoted out of context and misunderstood by most people.

In explaining what Tinubu meant during his speech on Sunday, Rahman in his own statement submitted that his principal was making reference to unwarranted and sponsored attacks against him and only used the metaphor of fighting with a pig and getting dirty to buttress his point about accepting the insults that come with playing politics in Nigeria and aspiring for the presidential seat.

“In continuation of his consultations and engagements with the traditional rulers and critical stakeholders across the country, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on Sunday, February 20, 2022, visited the Alaafin of Oyo, Iku Baba Yeye, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi 111, and on his return from ancient Oyo town, he paid a courtesy call on the Olubadan-Designate, Senator Lekan Balogun,” the statement reads.

“Speaking at the residence of Olubadan-Designate, the All Progressives Congress National Leader, Asiwaju Tinubu, referring to some of the unwarranted attacks against him used the metaphor of wrestling with the pig, saying “if you decide to wrestle with the pig, you must be ready to get dirty.” He said he had accepted to take the insults and dirt thrown at him by some people as a price to pay for venturing into politics and seeking to be President of Nigeria.

“Sadly, the wrong headline and story have been latched on by some online platforms/blogs and commentators to pour invective on Asiwaju Tinubu. These commentaries and remarks are unfortunate because they are groundless, misinformed and misdirected. Hence, this clarification has become imperative.

“It bears restating that at no time during the visit and in his speech did Asiwaju indicate that he would fight dirty for his presidential ambition. His words were carefully chosen.

“For clarity and avoidance of doubt, this is what the APC leader told Olubadan-Designate High Chief Balogun: “Kabiyesi, all I have come for is to beg you to continue to pray for me, the entire Yoruba race and the country. Now I am out. Out for what, Kabiyesi? I am out to become the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. There is a wise saying that if you want to wrestle with the pig, be ready to get dirty and deal with the poo-poo. I am ready to get dirty. No intimidation, no blackmail, no sort of insult will get me angry to the extent that I will say no more, I don’t want again.”

“This statement is comprehensible and clear enough. Our appeal to the media is that as the 2023 election approaches, and indeed at all times, they should not allow their mediums and platforms to be deployed in the desperate smear campaigns and campaigns of calumny by politicians. They owe themselves and our society to report accurately and objectively without fear or favour. The duty of the media as the Fourth Estate of the Realm is a sacred one that must be guarded jealously.”

#NotTooYoungToRun: Shehu Sani reacts to Tinubu’s latest message to youths

A former Senator, Shehu Sani, on Monday said by the time the country’s youths waited for President Muhammadu Buhari and possibly Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader to finish their tenures, ‘they would have become elders themselves’.

Sani’s view is a reaction to Sunday’s statement by 2023 presidential hopeful, Tinubu, who said Nigerian youths will become president only after him.

Society gazette reports that there has been clamour for youths to occupy top political positions in the country, which gave birth to the #NotTooYoungToRun movement.

Speaking when he visited Lamidi Adeyemi, the Alaafin of Oyo, at the palace, Tinubu, 69, asked the youths to create room for elderly people.

“You won’t allow the elderly ones to pass and you haven’t become president. What if you become president, will you chase us out of town?” Tinubu asked rhetorically.

“You will grow old and become president. But I will become the president first.”

Sani, a avid user of social media who is in the opposition would respond.

Tinubu

“By the time the Youths waited for Baba and waited for Jagaban to finish their tenures, they have become elders themselves,” Sani wrote on his verified Twitter handle.

APC Members Protest Against Aregbesola In Alimosho For ‘Betraying’ Tinubu

The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has come under attack from members of the All Progressives Congress in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State following the minister’s attack against Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Some members of the APC in the local government which is the political base of Aregbesola staged a protest to denounce the minister for ‘ disrespecting Tinubu.”

This came a day after Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, trounced Aregbesola’s man, Moshood Adeoti, and Lasun Yusuf, who contested the APC governorship ticket against the governor.

Aregbesola had openly campaigned against Oyetola ahead of the primary election and he said the governor should be given the same treatment given to former governor of Lagos, Akinwunmi Ambode, who lost the APC ticket to Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Alimlsho youths had on Sunday carried banners expressing their support for Tinubu while mocking Aregbesola’s political death in Osun State.

Some of the protesting youths also carried a mock coffin which they said symbolised the political death of the minister in Lagos and Osun states.

Some of the youths placed the coffin on the ground and mimicked the Muslims way of praying on corpses before their burial.

Some of the youths said Aregbesola would be banished from Alimosho while calling him a traitor and many unprintable names.

The minister has also come under attack on various social media platforms with many mocking him after the defeat of Adeoti, his preferred choice.
