Osun 2022: Why Adeleke may lose again – Ex-lawmaker, Funmilayo

A former member of the Osun State House of Assembly, Funmilayo Olasehinde has reached out to Senator Ademola Adeleke, a governorship aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to be weary of political associates who are only interested in his political ruin.

The former legislator under the PDP while featuring on a political radio programme on Monday in Osogbo insisted that the family needed to put their house in order so that Senator Adeleke’s chances of becoming governor in 2022 will not be jeopardised.

Olasehinde who recently resigned her membership from the PDP stated that associates of the Adeleke family were creating problems for them within the party’s circles despite their generosity and popularity among the people of the state.

She revealed that she had sent messages to Deji Adeleke to counsel Senator Adeleke to come back to Osun from the United States of America in order to commence reconciliatory moves against aggrieved party members ahead of the 2022 gubernatorial elections in the state.

On why she resigned her membership of the opposition party in Osun, Olasehinde explained that unresolved crisis within the party was the motivation behind her action.

She added that despite several attempts by concerned leaders to mediate and make peace reign, the PDP in Osun was still marred in chairmanship tussle with no sign of resolution.

Recall that Senator Ademola Adeleke had contested as the candidate of the PDP in the 2018 Osun gubernatorial election which he narrowly lost after a rerun polls with the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adegboyega Oyetola.

Senator Ademola Adeleke who is currently residing in the United States is nursing aspirations to contest again in the 2022 Osun gubernatorial election against Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.

2023: Nigerians Have Been Deprived Dividends Of Democracy, PDP Remains The Only Hope For Them – Tambuwal

Sokoto State Governor and chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ forum, Aminu Tambuwal has declared that the party is putting its house in order to reclaim federal power in 2023.
He stated that Nigerians have been deprived of dividends of democracy in all states that are not governed by the PDP.

Speaking on Saturday during the party’s national executive committee (NEC) meeting, Tambuwal added that Nigerians are already tired of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Whenever you hear a major event, activity or commissioning of projects, it is happening only in PDP state,” he said.

He added that “We shall continue to do our best and we assure you of our total loyalty to our party.”

The Sokoto State Governor while acknowledging challenges within the PDP, added that the party is putting its house in order and resolving all contentions ahead of the 2023 general elections in Nigeria.

“Challenges, disputation, disagreement are a part of life and indeed politics. But what is important is how they are resolved.”

“We have activated all mechanisms that we have in PDP to resolve all of our issues, and as the chairman of the board of trustees (BoT) said, we are there by the grace of God.

“We shall continue to hold together, remain together, because we are the hope of the people of Nigeria and Nigerians are looking forward to PDP, and we cannot afford to fail them.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, had stated that stealing under the Muhammadu Buhari-led government is not done in the open.

Speaking on the legacy of the Buhari administration, the former Rivers governor said if there is stealing at all, then it is done quietly under the current government.

He told Daily Trust in an interview published on Sunday that the present administration has handled Nigeria’s resources very well.

Amaechi claimed that during the previous government someone without any means of verifiable livelihood could become a billionaire due to corruption.

This is coming after a Kebbi High Court reinstated Secondus as chairman of the party on Thursday.

Recall that a Rivers State High Court last week restrained Secondus from parading himself as National Chairman until the determination of the substantive suit.

The main opposition party thereafter named its Deputy National Chairman (South), Yemi Akinwonmi, as the acting National Chairman.

The spokesman of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan, disclosed this on Thursday after the closed-door meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party in Abuja.

The presiding judge noted that she is satisfied after going through the affidavit of the respondents that an interim order be granted on the purported suspension of Secondus pending judgment.

She granted leave to Secondus “to continue exercising all the constitutional powers of the office of Chairman of PDP (second defendant) as enshrined in both 1999 Constitution of Nigeria as amended and the Peoples Democratic Party’s constitution”

Secondus will remain as National Chairman of the main opposition party pending the hearing and final determination of applicants’ motion on notice.

Applicants in the matter are Yahaya Usman, Abubakar Mohammed and Bashar Suleman.

The NWC which has most of the 19 members in attendance, is being presided over by the Deputy National Chairman (South), Yemi Akinwonmi.

It was gathered that the meeting started around 12.00 pm.

Others at the meeting include the Deputy National Chairman (North), Senator Suleiman Nazif, National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, and the National Youth Leader, Sunday Ude-Okoye among others.

Meanwhile, the BoT meeting which is being held at the party’s National Executive Committee Hall, has in attendance former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, former Senate Presidents David Mark, Bukola Saraki and Pius Ayim, former Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Fight For Soul Of PDP: Akinwonmi steps in as Acting Nat’l Chairman, suspends NWC meeting

The Acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Yemi Akinwonmi, on Tuesday suspended the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) meeting indefinitely.

Akinwonmi, who was the Deputy National Chairman of the party in the South-West made the move shortly after he took over the affairs of the party, following the suspension of the party’s national chairman, Uche Secondus.

Ripples Nigeria reported yesterday that a High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, River State, on Monday ordered Secondus to stop parading himself as the chairman, or even a member of the PDP.

Explaining the reason for his action, Akinwonmi cited Section 35 (b) of the party’s constitution, saying it was a deliberate decision to allow for a broader consultation in the overall interest of the party, following the restraining order by the High Court, stopping Prince Uche Secondus from parading himself as the leader of the PDP.

Speaking in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja, Akinwonmi said, “Our attention was drawn yesterday evening to a court order, which purports to restrain our National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, from summoning and presiding over the meetings of the organs of the party.
“In the foregoing circumstances, as Deputy National Chairman (South) of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, after the consultations and in exercise of the aforesaid powers, hereby deem it fit and proper to postpone the National Working Committee, NWC, meeting earlier scheduled for today until further, notice to allow for broader consultations in the overall interest of our part

“Section 35(3) (b) of the constitution of the People’s Democratic Party empowers me to summon and preside over party meetings in the absence of the national chairman.”

It would be recalled that before the restraining order, Secondus had scheduled the PDP NWC meeting for today (Tuesday) at the party’s headquarters, in Abuja.

However, in the court ruling yesterday, Justice Okogbule Gbasam barred Secondus from parading himself as a member of the PDP or its National Chairman, which includes preventing him from calling, attending or presiding over any meeting of the party, among others.

Go and Rest, Allow Your ‘Children’ Take Over The Mantle Of Leadership – Yahaya Bello Tells Bola Tinubu

The Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has called on the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, to drop his presidential ambition.
Society gazette reports that Bola Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos state, is reportedly plotting to replace President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023, though he is yet to officially declare his intention.

Speaking in an interview with DailyTrust, Yahaya Bello, who described Tinubu as his father, urged the APC leader to allow his ‘children take over the mantle of leadership.’

The governor however stated that the former Lagos governor has a right to contest the election as he is a man of integrity.

Yahaya Bello said: “Senator Tinubu is one of our leaders and I respect him so much. He has played a very significant role in Nigeria’s democracy and has built a lot of people.

“He has paid his dues, and with all respect, as a son to him, my simple advice is that it is time for him to allow his children take over the mantle of leadership and do it to the glory of God and his admiration.

“He should see that those children he raised are now doing well. Let him see how we manage this country in his lifetime.

“However, he has a right to run, nobody is questioning that. I always urge everybody to respect him for the roles he has played in this country’s democracy. He is a man of integrity, to be candid.”

‘I Can Be Friends With Isa Pantami, it’s Called Politics Without Bitterness’ – Fani-Kayode Replies Nigerians

Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has replied Nigerians who criticised him for describing the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, as his brother and friend.

Society gazette reports that the former minister was pictured smiling with Pantami at the wedding ceremony of Yusuf, President Muhammadu Buhari’s son, and his bride Zahra in Kano.

Joining a host of others at the affluent ceremony, Fani-Kayode while giving an update about his trip to Kano alongside top politicians, described Pantami as his brother.

It could be recalled that FFK a few months ago went hard on Pantami, describing him as a sociopath among many unprintable names.

Fani-Kayode in April this year lampooned Pantami after the Communication’s Minister came under fire over his past controversial comments supporting Islamic terrorist group known as the Taliban.

FFK who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, labelled the communication minister with ‘humiliating’ terms for his extremist Salafist views and sympathy for the Taliban, currently on the rampage in Afghanistan.

Nigerians, surprised to see Fani-Kayode with Pantami and other APC politicians, slammed the former Minister.

Some Nigerians accused the minister of lacking honour for dining with someone he described as a “unrepentant jihadist, cold blooded beast, a psychopathic and clearly insane individual”

Reacting, Fani-Kayode stated that he can disagree with his friend, stressing that politics is about bridge-building.

He wrote, “Buba Galadima with Ahmad Lawan, GEJ with PMB, GEJ with VP & Atiku with PMB. Politics is about bridge-building regardless of your differences.

“It is not war. You can be friends with your political adversary & still disagree. It’s called politics without bitterness & being civilised.”
