El-Rufai blocks telecommunication services, bans motorcycles in Kaduna to fight bandits
All vehicles used for commercial transportation are to be painted in yellow and black within 30 days.
Telecommunication services have been shut down in parts of Kaduna State as part of new measures to fight banditry in the state.
Parts of Kaduna affected by the telecommunications ban were not made public at a media briefing held by the Commissioner for Internal Security of Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, who announced other new measures at a media briefing on Wednesday, September 29, 2021.
Also effective from September 30, the state government banned the use of motorcycles, both for commercial and personal purposes, for three months.
All vehicles used for commercial transportation, including ride hailing cars for Uber and Bolt, are to be painted in yellow and black within 30 days.
Tricycles are allowed to operate only between 6 am and 7 pm, and the government emphasised a ban on possession of or wielding of dangerous weapons.
The sale of petrol in jerry cans or other containers has also been banned in Birnin Gwari, Giwa Igabi, Chikun, Kachia, Kagarko and Kajuru LGAs.
Aruwan said the new measures “are in the interest of our collective safety and security, and to aid security agencies fighting criminals.”
The commissioner said the inconvenience is regretted, but the hardship is expected to be temporary.
“Too many lives have been lost, and too many families have been shattered.
“Small groups of wicked persons cannot continue to hold us to ransom, and force us to live in perpetual fear,” he said.
Kaduna is one of the worst affected by banditry and violent attacks in the northern region, with 1,482 people killed and 3,695 kidnapped between January 2020 and June 2021, according to the government’s own records.
JUST IN: FEC approves 14-day paternity leave for civil servants
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has granted male civil servants the right to enjoy a 14-day paternity leave to allow them to bond with their newborn infants.
This was disclosed to State House Correspondents on Wednesday by the Head of Service of the Federation, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan, after the week’s virtual FEC meeting, presided over by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
She said this is to enable for proper bonding between the father and a newborn baby, either natural-born or adopted, especially at the early stages of the child’s life.
Dr Yemi -Esan further explained that adopted babies of less than four months will also enjoy this gesture.
IPOB reveals politicians who assassinated Dr Akunyili
The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has weighed in on the mysterious murder of Dr Chike Akunyili, husband of late Prof Dora Akunyili, stating that he was assassinated by politicians vying for positions in the upcoming governorship election in Anambra state.
In the wake of his murder, some reports alleged that IPOB had perpetrated the attack.
Akunyili was gruesomely murdered on Tuesday on his way from Onitsha to Umuoji at Eke Nkpor.
However, IPOB through its spokesman, Emma Powerful has debukned all allegations levelled against the group.
According to Powerful, “those who poisoned the late Dora are responsible for Chike’s death.”
A statement by Powerful reads partly: “Those who killed Dora Akunyili’s husband killed his wife with poison are Fulani because she exposed Yar’adua’s death for Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to take over as President of failed Nigeria. They know themselves, Those that conspired to poisoned prof. Dora Akunyili, they’re contesting the governorship election in Anambra State today.
“We have no issues with Chike Akunyili and we don’t know him, those behind this act must stop this and stop using IPOB name, we don’t want anybody to blame IPOB because we must get them, this is pure political assassination going on in Anambra State now and it been perfected by Nigeria DSS security agents are doing this to paint IPOB back in the face of support and encouragement we are getting from our people.
“We know their plans and gimmick to discourage Biafrans who are encouraging and supporting us but it can’t work for them, in the near future those committing these atrocities in Imo and Anambra state will hear from IPOB and our people should not blame us because we must get them.”
Iragbiji bank robbery: Osun police confirm two officers dead
The Osun State Command of the Nigeria Police has revealed that two of its personnel, Inspectors Ogunbiyi Ahmed and Odeyemi Ayinla were two of the police officers that lost their lives in Tuesday’s armed robbery attacks at Wema Bank, Iragbiji and Iragbiji Divisional Police Headquarters in Boripe Local Government Area of the State.
According to a press release signed by the Spokesperson of the command, Yemisi Opalola, the armed robbers who numbered about twenty came in commando style with about four vehicles at about 2:55pm and simultaneously attacked Iragbiji Divisional Police Headquarters and Wema Bank Iragbiji.
She disclosed that the robbers invaded both targets with sporadic shooting and launching of explosive devices in an attempt to disorganise, incapacitate and destabilise the police who were in a fierce gun battle with them.
Opalola added that some parts of the Divisional Police Headquarters was damaged.
“The robbers in a bid to gain entry into the bank blew off its security door with dynamite and the ATM machine was also destroyed but an attempt to break into the bank strong room was foiled,” she said.
She explained that the deceased police officers were shot dead when they engaged the fleeing armed robbers in hot pursuit.
“The robbers on sighting the policemen comprising police tactical teams with local security outfits who promptly engaged them in a fierce gun duel took to flight and abandoned their unexploded dynamites and two of their vehicles.
“The Police, jointly with local security outfits have been combing the bushes in a bid to arrest the robbers, believed to have escaped with multiple injuries,” she stated.
Opalola stated that the Police Commissioner was appealing to the people of the State to always cooperate and collaborate with the police in the area of giving prompt and useful information that will aid in the curtailing of criminal activities before it occurs.
Also, she requested the public to avail the command of information on any suspected person or persons with gunshot or bullet wounds.
Saraki, Gbemi Reacts As Library Named After Their Father Is Demolished
Former Governor of Kwara State and Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has condemned the demolition of a library named after his late father, Olusola Saraki.
The development did not go down well with the Minister of State for Transportation, Gbemisola Saraki, who also expressed her displeasure.
The library which was demolished by the Kwara State Government is located along Kuntu, Agbo-Oba area, Ilorin.
The former Senate President in his reaction said, “I just got the news that the major official assignment carried out by the Governor of my state, Kwara, today, is the demolition of an old public library named after my late dad, Dr Olusola Saraki.
“May Almighty Allah continue to retain a place for Oloye in Aljannah Firdaus.”
Gbemisola in her reaction said, “Yet again, today we find that the Governor of Kwara State’s focus is not on building up Kwara, but on demolishing buildings which were owned or named after my late father, the Waziri of Ilorin.
“No matter how many structures are demolished, Baba Saraki’s legacy can never be destroyed, because it lives in the hearts and minds of the great people of Kwara. May Allah continue to guide and protect us all.”
This is coming a year after the state government demolished the Ile Arugbo GRA residence of late Saraki.
Meanwhile, the state government in a statement on Tuesday evening said the building was dilapidated and had become a hiding place for hoodlums in the state and a threat to public safety.
It added in the statement titled ‘Clarifications on the renovation of Ilorin West Local Government’s Library Named After Senator Sola Saraki’ which was signed by Mukhtar AbdulGafar Omotosho on behalf of the Ilorin West Local Government (TIC) that the building was pulled down to renovate it and make it a more befitting public edifice.
Grandma In Trouble For Allegedly Collecting ₦50,000 Bribe From Man Who Raped Her 3-Year-Old Girl
Ekiti State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a teenager, Seun Olarewaju, who defiled a 3-year-old girl.
The grandmother of the victim was also arrested after investigation revealed that she collected the sum of N50,000 to cover up the act.
According to a statement by the Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Abutu, the incident happened at Iyana Emirin Area, Off Poly Road, Ado-Ekiti.
He said “Investigation revealed that the suspect lured the victim into his room where he had carnal knowledge of her.
“The victim was thereafter taken to the hospital for medical examination and treatment where experts confirmed a case of penetration into her private part.”
Abutu noted that further investigation revealed that when the grandmother of the victim heard about the incident, she demanded the sum of N50,000 from the parents of the suspect for amicable settlement of the case.
The said money was paid to her and she converted it to her personal use.
He confirmed that she had also been arrested and shall be charged to court alongside the suspect for compounding a felony and defilement respectively.

Also as one of the guests of honour at the Gen. Kale Book Launch was popular economic policy expert, activist and erstwhile Education Minister, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili CFR who reviewed the book.

BREAKING: President Buhari approves creation of 159 New TV, Radio Stations
President Muhammadu Buhari has granted approval to 159 companies, communities and institutions of higher learning to operate radio and television stations.
Director-General, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Malam Balarabe Ilelah, made the disclosure in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday.
“Following the approval granted by the president, NBC has released the list of 159 licenses granted to companies, communities and institutions of higher learning.
“The commission was established by the NBC ACT, Cap. N11, Laws of the Federation 2004 with the mandate to regulate and control broadcasting in Nigeria.
“Today, there are a total of 625 functional broadcast stations in Nigeria,’’ Ilelah stated.
The D-G said that the newly-approved licenses were the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro (Radio), Prospective Union of Reno People (Radio), Smile Community Radio Initiative and International Institute of Tropical Agriculture Radio.
He said others are Dudu African Broadcasting Communications Ltd., Independent Television, Prince Media Network, Jamkat Integrity Investment Ltd., Hikima Media Services, and Galaxy Television Radio.
