Fans rally behind actress Regina Daniels over marital crisis

Fans of Nollywood actress, Regina Daniels, have expressed concern over her well-being following a disturbing video that surfaced online on Friday, showing her in tears and alleging domestic violence in her marriage to billionaire politician, Ned Nwoko.

In the viral clips, the visibly distraught actress was seen sitting outside in the dark, sobbing as she lamented her alleged ordeal. Amid tears, she said, “In Ned Nwoko’s house, I am nothing. But in my house, I am a queen.”

Her young son could be heard trying to console her, but she replied emotionally, “Baby, what again? I cannot stand this violence. It’s too much.”

The tense scene appeared to escalate when some men, believed to be security aides, tried to pacify the actress and her siblings, but her brother, Sammy, confronted them.

Shortly after, Sammy took to Instagram to defend his actions, writing, “Makachi! E pain me say una wan finally laugh my sister. Let me repeat — anywhere wey man dey beat woman, whether na my sister or not, I go fight with my blood!”

The controversy deepened when fans resurfaced an old video of Nwoko jokingly saying, “She will tell me I’m not her father, and I’ll say, no, I’m your husband.” In the clip, Regina quickly knelt and replied, “You’re my everything,” in an attempt to diffuse the tension.

As the story gained traction, social media users began tagging actress, Angela Okorie, recalling her recent online spat with Daniels. Their feud began after Okorie made a controversial post about Mercy Johnson, which Daniels publicly condemned.

The disagreement quickly turned personal, with Okorie mocking Regina’s marriage to Nwoko, while Regina alleged that Okorie once showed interest in the billionaire.

Reacting to being dragged into the latest drama, Okorie wrote on Instagram, “Nigerians, na me dem beat for Ferrari and private jet house with 8 wives? Why una dey tag me kwanu? Oh chim, Angelaaaa.”

Meanwhile, several entertainers and fans have voiced support for Daniels.

Actor Stanley Ontop wrote, “Nothing should happen to my Gina ooo… make hand no touch her abeg.”

Fans also flooded social media with mixed reactions.

One user, @sawiitee, asked, “Hope say no be movie?”

Another fan, @yourmosttrustworthyattorney, lamented, “This is too sad. I was hoping it was a skit.”

User @vivibleez added, “Noooo, it’s for better or for worse. Who she wan leave am for?”

Another fan, @bigbillzbaby, criticised, “She chose this life forced on her by her mother, who doesn’t know any better.”

@victoriakelly wrote, “But why Ned go lay hand on her? Old man wey dem dey manage.”

Echoing similar sentiments, @callmeoche commented, “She really needs to stop talking. Why marry someone old enough to be your grandfather? He’ll always see you as a child. Honestly, this situation is partly her fault.”

As of press time, neither Regina Daniels nor Ned Nwoko has issued an official statement regarding the incident.

Arise TV anchor buried as Obi decries insecurity

Tears flowed freely on Saturday as the remains of the late Arise Television news anchor, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, popularly known as “Sommie,” were laid to rest in her hometown of Agulu, in the Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who attended the solemn ceremony alongside the deceased’s family members, friends, colleagues, and dignitaries, decried the insecurity plaguing the country.

Obi described Maduagwu’s death as heartbreaking and a painful reflection of the country’s worsening security situation.

Speaking after the Mass, Obi, who also hails from Agulu, said, “We cannot question God. When I heard of her death, I didn’t know that she was from Agulu even before I tweeted about it. Our coming here will help to console you, but we know that this loss is a huge one. It is the wish of God, and none of us can question Him. Please do remember her and her immediate family in your prayers.

“Before I left Birmingham yesterday, I told some people that I was rushing back to Nigeria for the burial of one of my daughters. I told them to remember to pray for her all the time as she will be buried today.”

Maduagwu, who was killed during an armed robbery attack at her residence in Abuja in September 2025, was buried around 1:30 p.m. after a funeral Mass at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Agulu.

Delivering a homily during the Mass, Rev. Fr. Peter Ezewuzie of St. Theresa’s Parish consoled the bereaved family and urged them to take solace in the belief that Maduagwu lived a meaningful and impactful life.

He said, “The Lord who created us knows the beginning from the end.

He is all-knowing, and some of you may be unhappy that a life has been cut short, but you won’t know if that is how God planned it.

“He (God) is an all-knowing Father, so I urge you to grieve less. God, who gave Christelle Somtoo Maduagwu to your family, loves her more than you do. The only thing you owe her is to continue to remember her in your prayers. She is in a better place today and will always remember us too.

“The maturity of life is the quality of life lived and not how long, and we can be sure that our sister lived a quality life. Let us strive to live our lives well. We are not here by chance; there is someone who brought us here and expects that we live good lives because no one knows when it will be their time.”

The deceased’s uncle, Obi Maduagwu, commended Arise News Channel for standing by the family since her passing.

He said, “We thank the management of Arise News. They have been with us right from the beginning. We thank all who journeyed all the way to be with us.”

The late journalist’s death in September sent shockwaves across Nigeria’s media community. Reports said the assailants invaded her Abuja home at night, and she was later confirmed dead at a nearby hospital.

Tributes have continued to pour in from colleagues, friends, and prominent Nigerians, who described her as intelligent, hardworking, and full of promise.

Saturday’s burial drew journalists, government officials, and members of the Agulu community, all of whom paid their last respects to a rising media star whose life was tragically cut short, leaving behind memories of brilliance, humility, and hope.

Presidential pardon still under review — FG

The Federal Government has clarified that no inmate has been released under the recent Presidential Prerogative of Mercy exercise, noting that the process is still undergoing final administrative review.

PUNCH Online reported that President Bola Tinubu recently granted a pardon to Sir Herbert Macaulay, as well as 174 others, following approval by the Council of State.

Among the beneficiaries are notable figures such as Ken Saro-Wiwa, the environmental activist, and Major General Mamman Vatsa, who was executed in 1986 for alleged coup plotting.

The pardon list also includes Maryam Sanda, who was sentenced to death in 2020 for killing her husband, and other inmates whose sentences were commuted or reduced, and ex-convicts deemed eligible by the Presidential Advisory Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy.

However, in a statement on Thursday, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), said the exercise remains at the stage of verifying and reviewing the list of beneficiaries before the issuance of formal instruments of release.

Fagbemi explained that although the Council of State had approved recommendations for clemency, the final stage requires a detailed review to ensure all names comply with legal and procedural standards.

“The Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice wishes to clarify that no inmate approved for clemency under the recent exercise of the President’s power of prerogative of mercy has been released from custody.

“The process remains at the final administrative stage, which includes a standard review to ensure that all names and recommendations fully comply with established legal and procedural requirements before any instrument of release is issued,” the statement read.

He noted that the issuance of the instrument of implementation marks the last phase of the process, after which the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service will be authorised to act.

According to the AGF, the review phase is part of standard protocol and demonstrates the government’s commitment to transparency, due diligence, and the rule of law.

Fagbemi commended the public for its interest and scrutiny of the exercise, describing such engagement as evidence of Nigerians’ commitment to justice and good governance.

“There is no delay in the process; it is simply following the law to the letter to ensure that only those duly qualified benefit from the President’s mercy,” he said.

The minister assured that the public would be duly informed once all legal and procedural checks are completed.

“As soon as all legal and procedural checks are concluded, the public will be duly informed. The rule of law does not rush; it ensures fairness,” he added.

Why I isolated for four years – Singer Seyi Shay

Singer, Seyi Shay, has revealed the reasons for her isolation for over four years, citing the need to reflect on her life and personal growth.

In an interview with Chude Jideonwo seen by PUNCH Online on Thursday, the singer said the isolation helped her operate on a different level and has also helped her change the perception she had of men.

The interview marks one of the first in-depth public reflections from Seyi Shay in years, offering her fans and the public a clearer understanding of why she stepped back and what she gained in the process.

“I have done so much work over these past four years. The transformation of my mind started before I had my child. I started a journey of isolation. There is something really good about isolation, but I know some people say it is not good, but one thing for me is that I was blessed with hindsight and I could just reflect and I was also blessed with insight which in turn, gave me foresight and I think that is the biggest gift beside my daughter that God has given me these few years that I have been away.

“My spirituality has also transformed, and I am vibrating on such a different level now that I actually feel very comfortable with men. I love all the men. It is a man’s world,” she said.

She, however, revealed why she is not married to the father of her daughter, despite maintaining a close and respectful relationship with him.

She said, “It’s a technical issue, you understand? But he’s great, he’s cool, he’s around. He’s Nigerian, he’s in the UK at the moment, and he’s also in the music industry on the corporate side of things. We just work together, raising our child, and we are great friends.”

PUNCH Online had reported earlier that Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage revisited her long-standing rift with fellow artiste Seyi Shay, clarifying her side of the story regarding the infamous salon confrontation that went viral years ago.

The Peoples Democratic Party and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar have congratulated the Governor of Bauchi State and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Senator Bala Mohammed, on his 67th birthday.

In a statement issued on Sunday via its X handle, the PDP described Mohammed as a visionary leader who embodies the party’s core values of integrity, service, and dedication to the welfare of Nigerians.

The party said the Bauchi governor’s administration has recorded “remarkable strides in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic empowerment,” in line with its manifesto.

The statement read, “Born on October 5, 1958, in Duguri Town, Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed exemplifies the PDP’s core values of integrity, service, and unwavering commitment to the welfare of the Nigerian people.

“On this auspicious day, we celebrate Governor Mohammed’s enduring contributions to our great party and the nation. We pray for continued good health, divine wisdom, and renewed vigour as he leads Bauchi State towards greater heights,” it prayed.

PDP reaffirmed its solidarity with the governor and the people of Bauchi.

Also in a personal message on X, Atiku lauded Mohammed’s “visionary leadership” for transforming Bauchi’s development trajectory.

He cited the governor’s achievements in the road sector, which he said had boosted commerce and connectivity, and the completion of the state’s International Conference Centre, which will host the upcoming Bauchi Investment Summit 1.0.

“On your 67th birthday. Your visionary leadership has redefined Bauchi’s trajectory, most notably through the revolution of the road sector, which has opened up communities and enhanced commerce, and the completion of the iconic International Conference Centre, now set to host the maiden Bauchi Investment Summit 1.0.

“These landmark achievements, alongside your broader infrastructural strides, have transformed the landscape of the state and improved countless lives. On behalf of my family, I wish you continued success and a very happy birthday,” said Atiku, who has defected from PDP to the African Democratic Congress.

Born in Duguri Town, Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi, Mohammed began his career as a journalist as News Editor for The Mirage Newspaper in Jos from 1982 to 1983.

He later worked with the News Agency of Nigeria.

He transitioned into public service in 1984 when he was appointed as an administrative officer in the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs, Abuja.

Over the years, the governor has held several political roles, including Principal Administrative Officer in the Cabinet Secretariat of the Presidency (1994), Chief Supplies Officer at the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals (1995–1997), and Assistant Director at the Federal Ministry of Power and Steel (1997–1999).

He has pivoted from Deputy Director and Special Assistant to the Minister of Transport to Senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, and later to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

As a PDP member, he became Bauchi governor in 2019 and was re-elected in 2023 for a second term.

I’m not mean like people think — Ex-BBN housemate, Mide

A former Big Brother Naija housemate, Ayomide Iwasokun, aka Mide, has opened up about how she deals with public perception and the perception that comes with being in the spotlight.

Speaking with Sunday Scoop, the reality star admitted that though she tries not to dwell on people’s comments, she cannot completely ignore them. She said, “I feel like everybody thinks about people’s opinion of them to an extent, but it depends on how much you let it affect you. People’s opinions always get to me because, at the end of the day, I know myself. I know what is real or not. It can be your opinion, and I might listen to you, but at the end of the day, I don’t care.”

On why some fans perceive her as being mean, Mide explained that it largely stems from her facial expressions rather than her personality.

“I feel like this started when everyone came into the house and I was just so tired after all the processes. Also, I have a resting b**ch face, but genuinely, I don’t have a mean bone in my body. I can react when I’m angry, but that’s where it ends,” she noted.

When asked about her close bond with fellow housemate, Bright Morgan, and the controversy stirred by his ex-partner’s online claims about his sexuality, Mide said she had no interest in the drama.

“I am trying to stay away from a lot of negative things. I don’t care about it,” she stated.

Speaking on her expectations, Mide added, “I didn’t go in with too many expectations because I didn’t want to be restricted. But coming out to see all the love I’ve received, I feel like it was an amazing experience. I’m okay with how things turned out.”
