At least 3 killed as Russia, Ukraine exchange strikes

Russia struck several regions of Ukraine overnight, officials said Saturday, reporting one person killed in Dnipro, while Moscow said two people died after a Ukrainian drone attack in the Rostov region.

Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov said one person was killed in a high-rise apartment complex.

Across the border, Russia’s acting governor of Rostov said a car caught fire following a drone strike.

“Tragically, two people died,” Yuri Sliusar posted on Telegram.

Ukrainian officials in Dnipro, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia all reported coming under Russian fire overnight.

In Dnipro, Filatov urged people to take precautions during Russian attacks.

“I understand that there aren’t enough shelters, but I must say: during shelling, it is absolutely not advisable to stay on the upper floors, especially when there is an underground parking area available,” he posted on Telegram.

Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov said that his city had come under sustained bombardment “for almost three hours”.

“The enemy used several types of weapons simultaneously: guided bombs, ballistic missiles and kamikaze drones,” he added.

In Zaporizhzhia, Governor Ivan Fedorov said several fires broke out following Russian drone attacks, one of which hit a residential building while another damaged a farm warehouse.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been pushing for a meeting with counterpart Vladimir Putin to end the war, with Kyiv proposing talks by the end of August.

But the Kremlin on Thursday downplayed the likelihood any such meeting was imminent.

Both sides have radically different positions at the negotiating table, and Ukraine has accused Russia of sending only low-level officials with no decision-making power.

Russia has called on Ukraine to effectively cede four regions that Moscow claims to have annexed, a demand Kyiv has called unacceptable.

Ukraine meanwhile has been pleading with its Western backers to send more weapons for its troops to withstand daily Russian attacks.

SDP NEC dissolves Gabam-led NWC, secretary faults process

The internal crisis rocking the Social Democratic Party took a dramatic turn on Friday as the party’s National Executive Committee dissolved the National Working Committee led by the suspended National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, over the lingering crisis rocking the party.

The decision was announced at an emergency NEC meeting held in Abuja and presided over by the party’s National Financial Secretary, Ibrahim Biu.

“The NWC, by this resolution, stands dissolved. We hereby nominate the following persons to take charge of the affairs of our great party, and to move the party forward,” he declared.

The new interim leaders announced include “Adamu Modibo (National Chairman), Abubakar Dogara (Deputy Chairman), Ekpeyong Ambo (National Secretary), Joseph Abu (National Organising Secretary), and Chief Solsuema Osaro (National Legal Adviser).

“Others are Judith Shuaibu (National Publicity Secretary), Ibrahim Biu (Financial Secretary), and Eluwa Ifeanyi (National Youth Speaker).”

Biu told journalists that it was unfortunate the NEC took such a drastic measure following failed attempts to resolve the internal crisis.

“In the last couple of months, our party, unfortunately, was engulfed in a leadership crisis. You are fully aware, somehow, that the party has been factionalised.

“A group loyal to the National Secretary, Dr Olu Agunloye, suspended the National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, on allegations of misappropriation and fraud.

“On the other hand, the national chairman debunked those allegations and equally considered the so-called appointments made by the group of the secretary as illegal. “That resulted in a kind of scuffle to the extent that the two groups clashed at the National Secretary of SDP. That created a crisis that security operatives had to intervene”, Biu stated.

Continuing, he noted that despite efforts by the NEC to reconcile the factions, the crisis has severely damaged the party’s image and progress.

“This has seriously affected our supporters, and we felt all the efforts we put in the last three years, since our last convention in 2022, somehow, because of this crisis, seem to be lost. And we cannot afford it. We have put in so much effort to build this party to this level. It’s for this reason that we decided to say, let’s come together.

“If the leadership of the party are not ready to provide a remedy to this situation, then you, NEC members, especially at the state should come together and see what we can do so that we can restore the confidence and trust of our teaming supporters,” he said.

In a related development, the NEC also announced SDP’s withdrawal from any form of alliance with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s coalition, which includes the African Democratic Congress.

Addressing journalists, the Deputy Chairman, Abubakar Dogara, clarified the party’s position.

He said, “Recently, there was this issue of coming together of major political stakeholders in the country and some political parties to form a coalition, which SDP was part of in the initial stage.

“But later, the person who represented SDP in that coalition meeting explained to the coalition that SDP are still contesting the by-elections across our 12 states and that the party was not ready to lose its identity. So the party decided to remain as SDP for the time being.

“Stakeholders were engaged later, and everybody agreed that the party should remain as an individual political party. Therefore, the SDP is not part of the coalition. So we will be contesting in the 2027 general elections with our presidential candidates and vice presidential candidates.”

Meanwhile, the embattled National Secretary, Dr Olu Agunloye, has rejected the dissolution of the NWC, insisting the action holds no legal weight.

Agunloye disclosed this in a statement released in the wake of the NWC dissolution on Friday.

According to him, the NEC members were loyalists of the other faction carrying out a hatchet job.

He said, ‘This is to let members of the National Executive Committee of our great Party know that the National Working Committee at its meeting passed a resolution, dissociating itself and the national leadership of the Party from the so-called NEC meeting in Abuja.

“The NWC urges all our elected federal and state legislators, Zonal Officers and State Chairmen, to disregard this illegal and irregular NEC meeting. About 13 State Chairmen had already sent sworn affidavits, as of 23/7/25, through various lawyers to the INEC Chairman to dissociate themselves from the Bissallah-Modibbo NEC Call, claiming their signatures were misappropriated and improperly used.

“The NWC enjoins all our esteemed State Chairmen to be properly guided and not be lured into a trap to avoid sanctions for breach of the SDP Constitution.”

How Is Overtime Calculated?

Overtime Calculator is used to calculate the money you make based on your regular hourly rate and overtime rate. It’s advisable to investigate the overtime laws of your specific state. At the federal level, overtime is primarily regulated on a weekly basis. Nevertheless, certain states and territories mandate overtime for any day in which an employee works more than 8 hours. Currently, these include Alaska, Nevada, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. 4 You can see the overtime https://www.ovotondo.it/what-is-financial-accounting-definition-principles/ laws for individual states listed in this handy article from Patriot Software.

Common Mistakes in Overtime Calculations

  • If you believe your rights to overtime compensation have been violated, there are steps you can take to report these violations.
  • However, it’s important to note that not all employees are eligible for overtime pay; exemptions often apply based on job roles, salary levels, and the nature of the work.

  • A Data Record is a set of calculator entries that are stored in your web browser’s Local Storage.
  • For covered, nonexempt employees, the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) requires overtime pay (PDF) to be at least one and one-half times an employee’s regular rate of pay after 40 hours of work in a workweek.

For 2025, employees who are paid more than a threshold of $1,128 per week and have jobs in executive, administrative, or professional capacities are generally classified as exempt employees. Thus, many small business owners aren’t covered by the FLSA overtime rules. While the overtime premium formula (1.5× regular rate) is simple, errors often arise from using an incorrectly calculated regular rate as the input. This prevents mistakes like what is overtime for 18 an hour paying only 0.5× the regular rate when the full 1.5× is required, or incorrectly calculating the base for the premium.

  • With that said, it’s common practice among most employers to provide additional pay on these occasions as a way to motivate and maintain the satisfaction of their workers.
  • Similarly, workers who are classified as independent contractors aren’t entitled to overtime pay.
  • If your workweek runs from Sunday through Saturday, for example, your employee may have worked fewer than 40 hours during that period.
  • Overtime refers to the additional hours worked beyond a standard workweek, which is typically 40 hours per week in the United States.
  • Navigating wage and hour laws is a critical responsibility for every employer in the United States.
  • Wouldn’t life be easier if employers offered double pay for overtime and holidays?

If your workweek runs from Sunday through Saturday, for example, your employee may have worked fewer than 40 hours during that period. Under the FLSA, private employers must pay overtime wages — not offer compensatory time off — unless very limited exceptions apply. Only actual hours worked count toward the 40-hour threshold for overtime. PTO, sick leave, holidays, and vacation time are excluded when calculating overtime eligibility. Under the FLSA, only non-exempt employees are eligible for overtime pay. Exempt employees are not — but determining who qualifies as exempt isn’t always straightforward.

Calculating overtime begins with determining the regular rate of pay, which can be higher than the base hourly wage if other compensation is included. For an employee earning $18 per hour with no additional pay, the overtime Accounting for Marketing Agencies rate is $27 per hour ($18 x 1.5). Overtime pay provides additional compensation for employees working beyond standard hours. Understanding how overtime is calculated is important for accurate payment, involving the base hourly wage and other forms of compensation that influence the final overtime rate. Accurate record-keeping is a fundamental responsibility for employers when it comes to managing overtime pay. Under the FLSA, employers are required to keep detailed records of all hours worked by their employees.
