Commotion As Oniraniken, Oba Adewale Adeniji Stockpiles Arms For Land Grabbers – Invades, Unleashes Mayhem On Ogun Community
The residents of Okerala Odofin, Okelara Apena Seriki village, Okerala Tarogun village, IpaVillage, Ososa Village, Simawa in area of Sagamu, Ogun State are currently living in fear over series of attacks by unknown gunmen disguised as land grabbers which reportedly have backings of the traditional ruler, Oniraniken Of Iraniken, Oba Adewale Adeniji.
It would be recalled that Family members of the Oniraniken, Sagamu, Ogun State, have disagreed with the traditional ruler over his alleged claim that a disputed farmland around Okerala, Simawa area of Sagamu, measuring 4,000 hectares, was an inheritance from his forebears.
While some residents have fled the areas for safety, others who have no place to go were forced to live in fear.
However, a source has confirmed to our reporter that the monarch takes pleasure in unleashing mayhem on these communities simply because of a bogus court verdict in his possession.
“The usual way of land grabbers hoax is to divide themselves into two; to represent two families in court, and they always attend every court proceeding without the consent or knowledge of the main family they took to court; whereas the inhabitants of those areas he said he got judgment were not even informed about any court case”. This is how Oniraniken, Oba Adewale Adeniji and his cohorts got their supposed 1,000 hectares of land, but duplicitously translated the verdict to be 4,000 hectares; and then started confiscating other people’s land”.
‘In quest for justice, Indigenes of the community staged a peaceful protest to the Governor’s Office, also to Akarigbo of Remo and some other significant quarters.’
Oniraniken of Iraniken, Oba Adewale Adeniji Resorted To Self-Help:
The recent Judicial Staff Association of Nigeria (JUSUN) closure and court embarking on strike caused a delay in various positive actions.
Our source said: “The court ambiguity gave the monarch a fortuitous audacity to take laws into his own hands. He started giving some mobsters weaponries and other dangerous objects to terrorize and sack the people from their farmland. Using land grabbers to forcefully take over about 4,000 hectares of farmland belonging to 14 Makun communities”.
When our reporter visited the region, some of the residents shared their ugly experiences in the hands of the hoodlums even as they made it clear that their lives is no longer safe as kidnappings, robberies and other heinous attacks are main areas of focus for these criminals just to force them vacate the community belonging to them.
Divine Intervention:
On receiving an intelligence report, special strike force from the office of Inspector General of Police came to rescue and apprehended three of the gunmen who allegedly took part in the ill-fated land grabbing exercise at Oke Rala village, Simawa area of Sagamu, Ogun state.
The Police force special squad said: “It received distress calls from residents of Shimawa over killings, kidnapping, banditry and armed robbery which made them swing into action. During the operation, One locally-made pistol, two caliber pistols, several live cartridges and expended cartridges were recovered from the land grabbers while others are at large”.
The three suspects arrested are Afeez Sunday; 41yrs old “m” of Ikorodu LGA, Surajudeem Isiaka; 33yrs old “m” of Ikorodu, and one Muranikeji Ogunkeye; 32yrs old “m” of Lagos state. They have since on Thursday whisked away to Abuja by the special force for questioning. Their alleged sponsor, Oba Adewale Adeniji was also declared wanted by the Police force after searching his palace but noticed the troublemaker had absconded.

JOURNALIST WHO ESCAPED FROM KIDNAPPERS’ DEN, OLUWOL E OBAFEMI NARRATES HIS EXPERIENCE
OLUWOLE OBAFEMI
A freelance journalist, Oluwole Obafemi has regained his freedom from his captors as he managed to escape from the camp of kidnappers who picked him along seven others on Benin/Ore Expressway, Society Gazette can report.
Obafemi and other passengers of a vehicle that was Ondo State bound were unfortunate to have been kidnapped on dreaded Benin/Ore expressway. The incident happened on 25th June, 2021. Obafemi was however lucky to have seen an escape route after five days in the kidnappers den.
Oabafemi, a former staff of popular media organization, MITV/Star Fm, narrated his ordeal in the hands of his captors whom he said were young Fulani men.
“I was going to Akure in Ondo state and I boarded the Bus from Ojota. The journey had been smooth until we got to Benin/Ore road. The driver noticed a barrier on the road and slowed down, and before we knew it, some armed men numbering about five jumped out from the bush. They collected all our valuables and picked eight of us from the Bus and marched us into the bush.” Obafemi explained.
He narrated to Society Gazette the young Fulani boys were basically out to make money. He however said they kidnappers didn’t ask them to contact their families until following day, after they had been made to walk long miles away from point of abduction.
“Our abductors were young Fulani men and they were out to make money. From the point we were abducted, we were made to walk several miles so as to beat security operatives who might been on their trail. It was in the afternoon of the following day that we were properly settled. The worst experience was the torture they meted on us so we could put pressure on our families members to pay the demanded ransom on time.”
Obafemi said he was unlucky to have got tortured than others because his family were only begging the kidnappers to let go of him and that they had no money to pay.
“My case was a peculiar one because I was seriously beaten because my family could not raise 10million naira they were demanding or even less. Two of us had were released three days after, when their families paid their ransom. They could not pay the demanded amount but they bargained and paid what they had. I was constantly getting beaten because my family could not raise the money. I was however lucky on the fifth day when the abductors led other abductees to go and drink from a stream in the bush. They considered me too weak to walk out of beaten I had received, so while they were away, I mustered the strength I could and escaped. I walked for hours before I got to a settlement where the dwellers assisted me to locate the main road.” Obafemi said.
The lucky freelance photo/camera journalist who travels around the country to source for materials for his job urged the government to pay attention to the issue of kidnapping because of the alarming rate it is assuming.
It is on record that thousands have been victims of kidnappers around the country and paid huge ransom for their freedom. Many have equally been unlucky not to return. Some die as a result of torture, long trek, while some were killed by their abductors for not been able to pay up ransom. In the same way, many have not recovered from encounter of such horrific experience.

Breaking: Lagos Assembly passes bill stopping parade of suspects
The Lagos Assembly on Monday passed an amended version of the Criminal Justice Law of the state barring the police from henceforth parading suspects before the media.
The bill was passed at a sitting presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Wasiu Eshilokun-Sanni, on behalf of the Speaker of the Lagos Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Mudashiru Obasa.
Section 9(A) of the newly passed bill states: “As from the commencement of this law, the police shall refrain from parading any suspect before the media.”
The bill further stipulates conditions under which a policeman can arrest without warrant one of which is that a person must be reasonably suspected to unlawfully be in possession of firearms or other such dangerous instruments.
A subsection of the bill also barred the police or any other agency from arresting a person “in lieu of any other person in a criminal matter.”
The bill adds that a person who is arrested “shall be given reasonable facilities for obtaining legal advice, bail or making arrangements for defence or release.
The bill stipulates that a suspect should be “accorded humane treatment, with the right to dignity of person; not be subjected to any form of torture, cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment; be brought before the court as prescribed by this law or any other written law; or be released conditionally or unconditionally.”
After a voice vote, the Lagos Assembly Deputy Speaker directed the acting Clerk of the House, Mr. Olalekan Onafeko, to transmit the bill to the governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for assent.
Exposed! How Powerful Cartel Plots To Frame Prophet Iginla For KIdnap And Multiple Murders ( Video, Pictures)
Plots by a powerful cartel to implicate and set up popular Abuja-based prophet, Prophet Iginla has been exposed.
The information available to us revealed that the syndicate being sponsored by high ranking Pastors have colluded with some ex-staff of Prophet Iginla ministry who were sacked over gross misconduct to rope him with kidnapping and murder of two kids and two women.
We reliably gathered that the cartel hatched the plan to kidnap two kids from the children’s department, kill them and bury them behind the bush in Prophet Iginla’s church, Champions Royal Assembly at Kubwa, Abuja. After the parents of the missing children have reported the missing kids, a lady will be killed too and her friend who allegedly had been paid too would report to the police claiming her late friend’s last port of call was Iginla’s church.
Two days after the report, another lady on their payroll would post her encounter on social media claiming Prophet Iginla threatened to kill her if she didn’t keep the secret to herself. Sadly, unknown to her too, another person had been paid by the cartel to kill her so as to make it look like Iginla did that as claimed by her. This would draw the attention of the police to Champions Royal Assembly where a witness in their payroll would attest to it that he had seen the missing kids in the church before and would lead them to where the kids were buried behind the church.
The plot by the carted is aimed at implicating Prophet Iginla with kidnap and multiple murders. These plots according to them would lead Iginla to jail and the closure of the ministry.
These wicked ploys were exposed by one of the newly employed staff of the ministry ( name withheld for security reasons) who was approached by the cartel to witness against Iginla when their plots are fully hatched.
In a series of chats made available to us, one of the arrowheads of the cartel with a pseudo name called Ebuka Kent, approached the young staff who was just employed a month ago to work for them for N7 million with the promise of flying him to the country of his choice once the dead was done and also pledged to place his parents on a monthly salary of N200,000.
Ebuka initially lured the lad with a mouth-watering offer of N3m as initial payment and a stay in any country of bis choice by their sponsor. The young boy thinking it was a drug business kindly turned down the offer. After much Cajoling, Ebuka opened up to him about the plot by the cartel to frame up Iginla.
The frightened boy who is just 19 years old, sent prophet Iginla an SMS requesting help. Iginla through his PA beckoned on him to see him at his office and that was when he confessed the whole saga to him with the evidence of their chats.
After consultations with a certain senior police officer in Abuja, the lad was advised to play along with them and he called to agreed that he was ready to be part of the cartel but insisted on nothing less than Seven million to carry out their wicked ploy. Ebuka agreed immediately but blocked the lad immediately he requested an initial deposit in cash and not transfer.
Confirming the incident, Iginla openly informed the members about the ungodly moves by so called clergy men and how the plot was exposed.
In his words, Iginla expressed sadness over the evils being perpetrated on the altar.
Furthermore, the young lad too in the video made available confirmed the tale as nothing but the truth .
It’s a crime to be a widow! Yes, that’s exactly what you read. Please stop reading it again and again to see whether it’s meant figuratively or literally. CBA Foundation can tell you It’s exactly meant the way you read it at first.
Does our society say being a widow is a crime? No. But does the society act as though it’s a crime – and a big one at that? Absolutely. Capital YES! So it doesn’t matter what society says or doesn’t say or what it has tucked away somewhere in our statute books. What matters most is what society does. Society’s action, demonstrated in the way widows are treated and which speaks louder than its words, calls widowhood a crime.
Are widows treated by our society any better than criminals or those suspected to be/have engaged in any form of criminal activity, including ex-convicts? Criminals (or those alleged to be or have been) are avoided like a plague. CBA Foundation knows they’re ostracised. They’re shamed. They’re stigmatised. They’re condemned. They’re even accused of additional crimes they may not have committed or been convicted of. No one associates with them as that would be considered a taint and stain on the associate. Just look at the aforementioned ways criminals (even alleged and ex-criminals) are treated and confirm if widows don’t go through worse in society’s hands, especially in the hands of the kith and kin of their late husbands.
Losing one’s husband is an agonising and devastating experience that could traumatise a woman for life. So it’s hard to understand how society can even dare to want to add to the agony and pain of suffering women who have lost their husbands instead of making effort to comfort them and soothe their pain? Society pretends as though it doesn’t realise that women who are made to go through hell after the death of their husbands are being made to relive that horrifying and nightmarish moment when they saw their husbands die or when news of their husbands’ death reached them. How much more unfortunate can any human being’s life be made to be? Society probably makes peace with itself while treating widows as common criminals by rationalising widowhood as a crime.
And were this to be the case, then the work of NGOs like Chinwe Bode-Akinwande CBA Foundation that are trying to restore dignity to widows (and their children) may have to be reframed in the context of efforts to decriminalise widowhood in Nigeria. Founded in 2015, the CBA Foundation has been working tirelessly to promote “the protection of [underprivileged] widows and their vulnerable children in Nigeria, to promote immediate and lasting hope, confidence and courage in their lives.” The CBA Foundation pursues its mission under its 5-point agenda of Women Empowerment/Capacity Building, through which it has reached out to over 8,600 widows; Health Intervention, wherein it has overseen the administration of treatment and medicines to over 4,500 underprivileged widows; Nutrition, under which it has distributed food items to over 10,600 underprivileged widows; Quality Basic Education, through which 158 children have been reinstated in school; and Self-Employment Scheme, wherein it has financially empowered 220 widows to start their own businesses.
These EFFORTS of CBA Foundation as well as those of other like-minded NGOs working to enhance the welfare of suffering widows are highly commendable. Viewed against the backdrop of the theme of this year’s International Widow’s Day, commemorated across the world last Wednesday 23rd June 2021: “Invisible Women, Invisible Problem”, the work of these NGOs makes poor widows, who society would rather not want to be seen or heard, visible so the problems they face daily can be visible as well to all. After all, the International Widow’s Day was introduced by the United Nations to raise global awareness of the issues faced by widows and highlight as well as combat “poverty and injustice faced by millions of widows and their dependents in many countries.”
However, as laudable as the efforts are, one cannot help but notice that the combined work and efforts of CBA Foundation and all the NGOs are only scratching the surface. Nigeria has so many widows, estimated to be around 3.5 million by the 2015 World Widows Report of the Loomba Foundation. That was when the rate of widespread killing and disappearance in Nigeria was not as alarming as today’s. Many more widows would have joined the number since 2015 and much more will join in the course of time given our declining life expectancy (and the disparity between men’s rate and women’s). Undoubtedly, a good number of these widows would have been able to take care of themselves and their children if they were allowed to inherit and build upon their late husbands’ assets. Sadly, 60 per cent of women in Nigeria are kicked out of their homes after the passing of their husbands. This is the handiwork of traditionalists and the kith and kin of the widows’ late husbands who would rather subject them to all manner of indignities and dispossess them of everything, leaving them and their children uncared for. Thus, the burden borne by CBA Foundation and similar NGOs continue to grow, stretching their resources thin and limiting their ability to be effective or make any dent in the problem.
So what’s required is a more fundamental and holistic approach predicated on society realising that it is in its enlightened self-interest to confront and combat the entrenched ways and traditions from the past that debase women, especially widows, and criminalise widowhood. It is this kind of intervention at the society level to address the overarching issue of entrenched traditional practices that criminalise widows, dispossess them of their husband’s inheritance and pauperises them that would make any significant difference. Sadly, this is the one approach we have not acknowledged and moved to adopt in Nigeria.
It’s amazing how many people in Nigeria carry on with their lives and live completely unconcerned about the plight of widows and the crying need to do something to change their lot. We do not realise how close we all are to either becoming a widow or having a loved one become one. We are living in Nigeria where life is so cheap and unpredictable that it can be snuffed out just like that. One can be picked up in the short distance between one’s neighbourhood shop and one’s residence, accused of armed robbery and silenced by the bullets of Nigeria’s citizen-killer security agencies. Even in the comfort of one’s bedroom accidental discharges from the weapons of these same security personnel can send one to an untimely death. When security agencies are not in the picture, one still has to contend with killer herdsmen, kidnappers, ritual killers, bandits and unknown gunmen who do an equally effective job of returning one to one’s creator before the appointed time. What about our roads? They demonstrate unmatchable talent for terminating destinies. And our waterways? They seem only a little less effective in cutting destinies short because they don’t witness as much passenger traffic as our roads. Our skies rank the same as our waterways in destiny truncation for the same reason of relatively low passenger traffic.
CBA Foundation
How can people in positions of authority and influence not care enough to confront society on the plight of widows when their own family, family members, relatives, friends, etc. could be affected tomorrow? How can the Minister of Women’s Affairs and officials of the ministry be sitting comfortable in their air-conditioned Abuja office when the plight of widows is no better today than it was when they assumed their positions? How can they be wasting a golden opportunity to use their positions to do all that they can and should to completely change the story of widowhood in Nigeria forever? Today’s widow is another person’s daughter, sister, mother, aunty, niece, cousin, etc. Tomorrow’s widow will be your daughter, sister, mother, aunty, niece, cousin, etc. How can you not be bothered about doing something today to decriminalise widowhood when it could affect you or someone you care about tomorrow?
Widows who have been fortunate to pick up the pieces after the devastation of losing their husbands and found a way to give themselves a second chance at happiness should realise that they are but a tiny fraction compared to the large number who have remained sentenced to misery, deprivation, poverty and public opprobrium since their husbands’ death. Such fortunate widows should lead one front in the war against the issues that confront widows and build a strong advocacy and support for their fellow widows. They should do this with the conviction that until all widows are free (from the shackles of anachronistic traditions that sentence them to the poverty, deprivation and injustice), they’re themselves far from free. They should keep in mind that unless the wicked and unjust system that criminalises widowhood is overthrown, their daughters, mother, sisters, female relatives, female friends, etc. could find themselves in demeaning and dehumanising circumstances as widows.
Mr Husband, what are you doing to protect your wife (and children) in case the unexpected happens? Don’t be fooled by the love that your siblings and kinsmen have for you and your family. It’s conditional love predicated on your presence (and presents). It will not be there in your permanent absence. What about you, adult children, who can and should do something? What are you doing to ensure that your mother, that auntie, that woman relative of yours don’t become a dehumanised widow if her husband dies unexpectedly?
And you traditionalists who hold onto anachronistic cultural practices that debase women, especially those who have lost their husbands, and treat them as the scum of the earth, can you point to five ways your diabolical wickedness towards widows have made your life or your family’s any better? Can you identify the modern amenities that your backward ways have attracted to your community? You claim that they’re traditions instituted by your forefathers which you must uphold perpetually, yet you have conveniently abandoned other traditions and embraced modernity where it suits you. Your forefathers never asked you to speak the white man’s language, wear his clothes, use his goods, read his books, send your children to his school or trade with modern money, but you’ve adopted all of these and abandoned the alternative traditional practices using your common sense. What is stopping you from applying this same common sense to end the diabolical traditional practices that you use to shame and debase widows? Even Satan must be stunned by your grand hypocrisy.
CBA Foundation wants you to know that this year’s International Widow’s Day has come and gone with little or nothing to celebrate as the lot of Nigerian widows hasn’t improved much over the last one year. Isn’t it high time we changed both strategy and tactics and get out of the insanity of expecting a different result while still doing the same old thing year after year? Chinwe Bode-Akinwande, founder of CBA Foundation, answers in the affirmative. Her Foundation once ran a Twitter campaign with the hashtag #careisaction, which asserted that “…without action, you truly don’t care, regardless of what you claim.” Next year’s commemoration is already beckoning, and in line with her call for action, the sixty-four thousand dollar question remains: is there any reason to be optimistic about seeing significant improvements in the lives of our widows if as a society we are not yet willing and determined to take action to confront and defeat the entrenched forces and issues that make widowhood a crime in this clime?
The Lagos Assembly on Thursday debated two bills proposing the establishment of two tertiary institutions – a University of Education and a University of Science and Technology – in the state.
The bills, which scaled second reading on the floor of the Lagos Assembly presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Mudashiru Obasa, were committed to the House Committee on Education (Tertiary) to report back in two weeks.
Hon. Bisi Yusuff (Alimosho 1) argued that the bill for a law to provide for the establishment of the university of Education, Lagos (UNEDLAG) was important as he suggested that it should also have provision for pre-degree programmes.
Yusuff also noted a provision in the bill that would make graduates be somewhat independent rather than search for jobs.
“The inclusion of vocational training will also make the students to be self-employed,” he said.
On his part, Hon. Sani Okanlawon, said it had become important for the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education and the Michael Otedola College of Education to be upgraded to a university.
“The society now rejects NCE and what is the benefit of going to a school that your certificate will not be recognised?
“Admission into this school is the lowest as only 18 applicants chose (ACCOED) as first choice in the last Universal Tertiary Matriculations Examinations (UTME).
“With the creation of this varsity, it will reduce the number of applicants seeking admission to LASU,” he said.
Also contributing, Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu (Eti-Osa 2), who agreed with his colleagues on the need to upgrade the two colleges of education in the state to a university, said the NCE is no longer popular.
According to him, the establishment of the university is timely, but “there is need to have a template to form the institution in order to avoid overlap.”
Hon. David Setonji, chairman of the House committee on Information, supported the bill and added that the state had a high number of primary and secondary schools with less teachers and that the university would help resolve the challenge.
The Leader of the Lagos Assembly, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade (Ikorodu 1), who said he was excited about the planned upgrade, told his colleagues that he is a product of ACCOED and that he taught for five years with the certificate he got from the institution.
“The creation of a new varsity is a good thing. This bill takes care of the welfare of both lecturers and students,” he added.
Speaking about the bill, Hon. Abiodun Tobun (Epe 2) said he was optimistic the proposed University of Education would produce good teachers if passed into law.
Concerning the proposed University of Science and Technology, the lawmakers expressed optimism that it would help provide manpower for the development of the state and the country.
In his contributions, Hon. Rauf Age-Sulaimon (Amuwo Odofin 2) suggested that courses in the humanities and legal studies should not be included in the institution’s curriculum as a University of Science and Technology.
While Hon. Femi Saheed (Kosofe 2) said science and technology play vital roles in development, Hon. Bisi Yusuff urged that the studies to be offered should take into cognisance the culture of the people.
Yusuff also advised that the university should be made to go into researches on agriculture to reduce the high cost of food in the state and the country.
Eromosele Ebhomele
Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The Lagos State House of Assembly and the Speaker of the House Dr. Obasa on Monday ordered Local Government councils and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state to desist from extorting and harrassing operators of courier and logistics services in the state.
This was as the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Mudashiru Obasa, emphasised that local government councils and LCDAs do not have the power to tax logistics and courier services. He said the power of the councils was limited to registration of bicycles as dictated by the constitution of the country.
Obasa said it was lamentable, especially as such acts affect ease of doing business “and it is very important that we do something about it.
“We have to make them understand that going out to disturb well-planned and organised businesses that stand to create employment for our youth especially with the rate at which students graduate with nothing much to do is not good at all.
“The services of courier services reduce poverty in the state and how much do they even charge?” Obasa asked.
“Local governments have nothing to do with the registration of motorcycles and tricycles. Operators of courier and logistics services should not be made to pay in all the local governments considering what they charge for their services” Obasa explained.
The Speaker Dr. Mudashiru Obasa reel out The House resolution that the local government councils should be aware of their limitations in this regard as well as stop using alleged touts and street urchins to collect revenues in other areas where they are legally empowered.
In the decision of the House which followed a motion earlier moved by Hon. Ganiu Sanni Okanlawon (Kosofe 1), the lawmakers further resolved to call on the Lagos State Government to direct the Commissioner for Transportation and other relevant agencies to ensure that operators of courier services and logistics are not harrassed by the local governments.
The House also directed the state Commissioner of Police to ensure that all extortionists in the state are apprehended.
“The House calls on Local Governments and LCDAs to desist from harrasing and extorting operators of courier and logistics services and restrain their traffic department from doing so.
“The Ministry of Information and Strategy should educate operators of Courier and Logistics Services and informed them about what is expected of them,” Okanlawon said.
Okanlawon stated that the laws and restriction orders on the ban of motorcycles in some areas in the state exempted the movement of motorcycles of courier and logistics services.
In his contribution, Hon. Bisi Yusuff said that the motion was timely and that the use of local government taskforce to deal with operators of courier services was an embarrassment to the state government.
According to Yusuff, some operators took some local governments to the court on the issue in the past and won.
Leader of the House, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade, said that courier and logistics services help people in different areas to interact with their customers.
Agunbiade added that the operation had a way of boosting the economy of the state and empowering the people through employment.
“The motion did not say they should not be regulated. A courier service should not pay from one local government to the other or else it would defeat the purpose of their business.
“The revenue should be centralised among the local governments. The House once passed a law to regulate collection of fees by local governments. The law stated that whoever is collecting levies for the local governments must be identified,” he suggested.
Hon. Lukman Olumoh (Ajeromi/Ifelodun 1) accused some of the local government officials of issuing out fake documents. He suggested that consultants should be employed for such activities.
Hon. Fatai Mojeed (Ibeju Lekki 1) stated that some of the riders of the bikes are graduates who have no other jobs, and that there have been many cries concerning the harrasment of courier and logistics operators by local government officials.
On his part, Hon. Abiodun Tobun (Epe 1) lamented that some of the courier services organisations do not live up to expectations.
“Some local governments use consultants and we cannot stop them because of their excesses. We must not throw the local governments out totally as they have a role to play as an arm of government,” he said.
Also speaking, Hon. Lanre Afinni (Lagos Island 2) suggested that the collection of revenue for the local governments could be centralised and shared among them, adding that multiple taxation affects the profit of courier services companies.
In his view, Hon. Moshood Oshun (Lagos Mainland 2) said that most of the local governments and LCDAs have traffic sections and that they charge exorbitant fines.
He urged that the traffic sections of these councils be looked into because they sometimes go the extreme of arresting and harrassing people.
Hon. Jude Idimogu (Oshodi/Isolo 2), who said he had personally experienced the harrasment of the touts, supported the motion.
Also supporting the motion, Hon. Setonji David (Badagry 2) said that courier operators play major roles in the state but that the local governments do not see it from this angle.
“Most of the receipts issued by the local governments are fake. We must ensure that the local governments limit themselves to what they ought to do.
“We have to find a way to stop the local governments from bothering the courier services since they are recognised by law. They also help transportation in the state as they help in distributing items,” he said.
