41 Confirmed Dead, 5 Injured As Fire Guts COVID-19 ICU Centre In Iraqi – [Photos]

An inferno has caught up with a hospital in the southeastern Iraqi city of Nasiriya.
Society gazette learnt that at least forty-one patients died in the fire incident with at least 5 people critically injured.

Confirming the horrible occurrence in a statement released to newsmen today, Dr. Ammar al-Zamili, the spokesperson for the local health department, said the fire incident happened on Monday night, July 12.

The inferno, Naija News understands was suspected to have started after oxygen tanks exploded in an ICU treating Covid-19 patients,

Al-Zamili said: “The civil defense teams managed to control and put out the major fire that broke out at al-Hussein hospital in the city with the help of health workers and neighborhood volunteers,”

Health officials, however, could not confirmed the exact number of people including patients that were inside the building when the fire broke. It, however, noted that an evacuation operation is underway. Al-Hussein Hospital was set up to treat Covid-19 patients at the start of the pandemic and has quarantine stations on site.

In April, at least 82 people were reported dead in a huge fire at a Covid-19 hospital in Baghdad. That fire had started after oxygen tanks exploded in the Covid-19 ICU.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi will hold an emergency meeting with a number of ministers and security commanders “to find out the causes and repercussions” of the deadly fire, the PM’s office said Tuesday morning, July 13.

Iraqi Parliament Speaker, Mohammed al-Halbousi tweeted that the fire shows a failure to protect lives “and it is time to put an end to this catastrophic failure, and Parliament will shift today’s session to examine options regarding what happened.”

Six Men In Police Net After Inserting Long Stick Into Anus Of A 16-Year-Old Suspected Thief

Six adults have been apprehended in Ghana for allegedly inserting stick into the anus of a teenage boy suspected to be a thief.

It was gathered that the individuals were arrested after they were caught on camera while carrying out the condemnable act.

Reports revealed that authority arrested the men at Agogo in Ashanti Region of Ghana.

Identity of the suspects are revealed as follows: Kwasi Marfo (24), Boakye Danquah (65), 53-year-old Osei Bonsu, 26-year-old Kofi Asiedu, 30-year-old Obeng Mensah and a 79-year-old man.

The video was captured by those who claimed to have caught the boy stealing in their neighborhood.

The 79-year-old man in the video who was the first person to be arrested by the police following a missing person complaint filed by the boy’s family, aided the police in the arrest of the remaining 5 people who participated in the stick insertion.

However, in their confession upon arrest, the suspects claimed not to know the 16-year-old boy’s whereabouts, alleging that they untied him and left him to go after the stick was inserted into his anus.

While the boy has now been found by the police and is receiving treatments from a hospital, the men are still in police custody assisting in investigations

During the one week long burial ceremony of the man of God, Prophet Racine appeared in almost all the programmes mostly taking the closing prayer or opening prayer even on the day of the burial. During the thanksgiving service on Sunday, He unveiled a book written about Prophet TB Joshua too. All these could be to prepare him for the huge role he is about the play in the ministry of Prophet TB Joshua even though he might not be aware yet.

It is no more news that South Africa is currently under serious tension following the operations of rioters and protesters.

Brenda Ataga Demands N1 Billion Compensation From Naijaloaded Over Malicious Reports

Brenda Ataga, wife of the slain Super TV CEO, Mr. Usifo Ataga has asked the management of Naijaloaded Blog for a sum of N1 billion as compensation for the publication of libelous and malicious reports against her person.

Brenda, also, asked the online platform to pull down the report from the website and retract the damaging report through its medium and other online news outlets.

She made these demands in a letter dated June 28 and addressed to the Managing Director of the online medium, Mr. Makinde Azeez through her counsel, Chief Charles Uwensuyi-Edosomwan (SAN).

Ataga, also a director in Super Network Limited, was recently found dead in a pool of blood at a short service apartment at Lekki Phase 1, Lagos state shortly after his family declared him missing.

Subsequently, the Lagos State Police Command arrested a 21-year-old undergraduate of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Chidinma Ojukwu for allegedly killing the late CEO.

The command had also claimed that the suspect was caught with a blood-soaked cloth worn on the day of the incident and confessed to stabbing the deceased with a kitchen knife after a struggle.

Chidinma, at a parade at the police command in Ikeja, had confessed that she and Ataga were “having fun” when an argument broke out and she stabbed him twice.

But in its report published on June 26, Naijaloaded had fingered Brenda in the murder of her husband, citing her relationship with the suspect through Brenda’s boyfriend.

In her letter of claim, however, Brenda described the report published by the online platform as a callous, malicious and mindless attack on the personality of their client.

The lawyer stated that the publication described his client as a conniving criminal that was part of the plans that killed her husband, father of her children, a most heinous cunning act.

The letter, which described the report as false, hinted that it labelled Mrs Ataga who is a wife, mother and highly placed official of the Nigerian government as a loose woman and a flirt, carrying on extra marital affairs with another Mr. Izu.

The letter demanded that the story be immediately pulled down from the website of Naijaloaded online, while calling for a complete retraction of the damaging story, to be carried first in online platform news blogs and other online news outlets.

The letter read in part: “A properly worded unreserved apology for the libel published in your news blog, two national television stations including Channels Television Network and three National newspapers including The Punch newspaper.

“That you pay the sum of N1, 000, 000, 000 (One Billion Naira) through our office to our client as pecuniary compensation for your reckless and mindless injury to her vide the published defamatory materials aforesaid.

“If at the end of 14 days from the date of this letter, any of the listed demands still stands unfulfilled, we would proceed on our full instructions to initiate steps to bring the full consequences of your recklessness in the aforementioned publications to you.

“In that case, all costs, fees and charges necessary for our client to redeem her image and recover her damaged character and credit would be on your account.”

PDP Crisis: ‘I Am Not Your Mate’ – Okupe Scolds Wike

A former presidential aide, Doyin Okupe, has slammed Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, declaring himself a leader and senior to the incumbent governor.

Okupe was reacting to a recent public attack on Prince Uche Secondus, the National Chairman of the main opposition party.

Naija News reports that Governor Wike had during the last weekend described Secondus as a serial liar and one that could not be taken for his words.

Secondus, who also attended the event, stormed out after delivering his speech wherein he talked about character and good leadership.

Reacting in a series of post on his Twitter page, Okupe asked the Rivers State Governor to apologise for his outburst.

The former presidential aide described Wike’s statement as reckless, indecent, irresponsible and unacceptable.

“I have observed that there are too many anomalies and practices which are alien to party politics which are being thrown to the upcoming young ones as the norm,” Okupe wrote.

In another post later, Okupe said he has the right to call derailing members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to order as a senior member of the party.

Okupe who was a former aide under ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan boasted that Wike is not his contemporary in politics.

“I believe I have the right and the merit to call our members to order irrespective of their status in the party,” Okupe stated in a statement he shared on the micro-blogging platform, Twitter.

According to the PDP chieftain, those who can wade shoulders with him in politics in Rivers State are the likes of Peter Odili, Rufus Ada George and not Wike, adding that he is a leader and senior to the current governor.

Okupe added: “For a fact, my contemporaries in the political hierarchy of Rivers State are former Govs Rufus Ada George and Peter Odili. So I am a senior and leader to our indefatigable Gov Wike politically.

“Therefore, I consider it a duty to intervene at this juncture,” he said.

According to Miss Barbie, a niece to the deceased, Ugeieki was her mother’s twin sister and had endured domestic violence from her abusive husband for a very long time.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on the 27th of June after she came back from her brother’s wedding and refusing her drunk husband sex. He reportedly beat her with a block of wood until she fainting bleeding profusely.

Sunday Igboho’s Actions Are Political, Southwest Governors Hiding Him – Miyetti Allah Alleges

A faction of Fulani herdsmen in Nigeria known popularly as Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, has alleged that actions of wanted Yoruba Nation agitator and activist, Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho are political.
The group in a statement on Monday by it’s spokesperson, Saleh Alhassan, stated that all Southwest governors know Sunday Igboho’s whereabouts and are hiding him.

Society gazette understands that Alhassan stated this in an exclusive interview with The PUNCH.

Donald Ojogo, an aide to the Chairman of South-West Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has though countered this claim, saying it is demeaning for the governors to respond to Miyetti Allah’s accusation.

Recall that the Department of State Services on July 1, 2021, invaded Igboho’s Ibadan residence in Oyo State where they killed two of his aides, arrested and detained 13 others following a gun battle.

Igboho, a spearhead of the separatist agitation for the Yoruba nation, escaped the bloody raid and was subsequently declared wanted by the secret police on allegations of stockpiling arms to destabilise the country, which he has since denied.

Igboho whereabout has, however, remain unknown since the incident.

The Yoruba nation agitator had gained popularity in January, following his eviction notice to suspected killer herders in the Ibarapa area of Oyo State, had since been unknown.

Speaking with The PUNCH on Monday, the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore spokesman said the DSS should have raided Igboho’s house earlier than it did.

Alhassan implored Sunday Igboho to turn himself in to security operatives because he would be forcefully apprehended.

He said, “It is in his (Igboho) own best interest if he submits himself peacefully so that he can face justice. Why is he running? Is he not a revolutionary? He should submit himself before they get him because as it is now, he has been declared wanted, he should present himself to the nearest police station.”

He said added that “All his (Igboho’s) actions are political; he is being used. His godfathers in the South-West should bring him out.

“The security agencies are speaking the language he understands, they will get him. I know the governors are hiding him but they (security agents) will get him.

“The (Nigerian) State has declared him wanted. He is not more than the state. The governors keeping him should produce him.”

“He declared a republic; that was a rebellion. How can you be threatening the sovereignty of the (Nigerian) State and you still have the guts to be walking around and be organising rallies?” Alhassan queried.
