CAN Submits Request For Creation of Spiritual Courts in Nigeria

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), yesterday, threw it’s weight behind calls for rotational presidency across all six geo-political zones of the country.

CAN also said it has presented a request for the establishment of ecclesiastical or spiritual courts to adjudicate on matters that relate to Christians. These views were made known at separate events by CAN President, Dr. Supo Ayokunle and General Secretary, Joseph Daramola in Ibadan and Abuja, respectively.

Ayokunle said Nigeria copied from the presidential system of government in the United States and that it should be practiced the way it was copied, adding that Nigeria needed a new constitution that would not promote one religion against others.

Ayokunle spoke at the 27th anniversary of Maranatha Lords Cometh Ministry International, Abayomi, Iwo Road, Ibadan, Oyo State.

“It is in our proposal that Nigeria should be for all. The position of the president must be rotated through the six geopolitical zones of the country. One zone cannot say that because they are in the majority, they should retain the position forever because, others will feel cheated and dissatisfaction will come in. No tribe or ethnic group must because of larger population continue to have the presidency. The time for that has gone. It should be rotated so that everybody can share in the dividends of democracy.”

Speaking further on the constitution review, the CAN president, said: “We have already prepared our documents, and we have sent them to the National Assembly. Our position is that the 1999 Constitution is long overdue for change because we are in the 21th Century, and the present constitution was done in the 20th Century. Change is constant for us to have better society. New things are coming up and technology is also developing, so our constitution needs to be amended.”

The body, Ayokunle stated further, also backs inclusion of state police in the new constitution.

CAN’s General Secretary, Joseph Daramola, told journalists in Abuja that the request for the establishment of ecclesiastical courts was part of presentation made at ongoing public hearing on constitution review and it’s expected that the lawmakers would consider and act on the request.

“There’s no place in the constitution that Christianity or church is mentioned. We are not happy about that. We are saying that the recognition and roles of Shari’ah in the constitution be expunged or ecclesiastical courts be included and recognised by the same constitution to adjudicate on the matters that relate to Christians. Shari’ah Court has different stages up to Shari’ah Court of Appeal. That is not the case for Christians or Christianity. We have registered our position and we expect action on the items presented as soon as possible.”

PDP governors defecting to APC are afraid of EFCC, says Ortom

GOVERNOR Samuel Ortom says his colleagues who were in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors and defected to to the All Progressives Congress (APC) did so because of fear of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The governor, who stated this today in Makurdi shortly after returning from Oyo State where he commissioned some projects on the invitation of his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde, said defection to APC would not save those who soil their hands from prosecution.

Although Governor Ortom did not mention any name, he was simply referring to the Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, and his Cross River State counterpart, Ben Ayade, who dumped the PDP for the ruling party.

While Umahi joined the APC last year, the Cross River governor switched to the ruling party a few weeks ago.

Ortom said the PDP governors have been delivering dividends of democracy to their people.

He said: “I have been in this game since 1982, which is close to 40 years now. So you always see all this drama. Some people are afraid of EFCC that is why they are decamping to APC. Recall that a former Chairman of the APC once said that if you decamp to APC your sins are forgiven.

“You know it left some of our people to visit the EFCC because we have refused to do that kind of kangaroo forgiveness of sins. But I have always told my people to do the right thing. Some are running away from the PDP because they are afraid of prosecution. That is why they are running away from the PDP to APC.

“But we must all realize that there is no hiding place for any criminal or thief. That is the truth. All the eye service you see happening around, when the day of reckoning comes nobody will stop the authorities from fishing out whoever has committed a crime in this country.

“That is why I have always said that prevention is better than cure. I have resolved that I will better go back to my village as a farmer than get myself involved in anything that would be questionable.

“That is also why I try as much as possible to be decent in the handling of the finances and other things of government. So we are not disturbed. You will see what will happen when we get to 2022. I may not be a prophet, but I might be near it. So there is no cause for alarm.

“This is democracy, people are free to associate with anyone they want. But I can tell you that PDP is waxing stronger. One thing we are doing by constantly holding PDP Governors’ Forum meeting is to reposition the party too. So that it will represent true democracy.”

Gunmen blocked our school bus with Axe and Gun, Released staff Narrates ordeal

Omolayo Ojo, a school attendant who was reportedly kidnapped by gunmen after a school bus was hijacked on Thursday morning in Oba Ile Estate, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, has briefly narrated her ordeal after regaining freedom.

According to reports from trusted sources, the released staff said the abductors blocked their school bus and brought out a battle axe and a gun.

She further reported that they dragged the bus driver out of the vehicle but took her along as they drove away into the bush.

It was also gathered that the gunmen had released her after they missed their target and had taken her to an unknown location where they threatened to cause her harm if she refuses to cooperate with them.

Omolayo Ojo said that she obeyed all their instructions and was allowed to go after they saw she was innocent.

More information on the situation also revealed that the gunmen rode on motorcycles, and crossed the bus belonging to Chimola School around 6:45am when the driver was on duty of picking school pupils.

Omolayo Ojo was dropped off by her abductors in a bush at Ilara Mokin in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo state.

In a reaction, Mrs Bolatito Akindemowo, the Principal of the school, confirmed that no student was abducted and that the school is yet to find the school bus.

“I Can’t Wait to Legally Murder Tyson Fury in Las Vegas” – Deontay Wilder Drops New Threat Ahead of Trilogy Clash

Deontay Wilder has vowed to ‘legally murder’ Tyson Fury in a brash statement of intent ahead of their trilogy in Las Vegas next month.

The pair will face off for the third time on July 24, just under a year-and-a-half after Fury brutally stopped the American in the seventh round of their rematch.

Fury had been set to take on fellow world champion Anthony Joshua in August before an arbitration ruling ordered that he fight Wilder once more.

And speaking in an Instagram live stream with his promoters Premier Boxing Champions, Wilder made a vicious proclamation about what will happen when he faces Fury again.

“My mind is very violent,” he told host Ray Flores. “We built a whole facility to commit a legal homicide and that’s just what it is, my mind is very violent at this time.

“I can’t wait, when you’re contemplating and pre-meditating about harming a man and you see that person, what you’ve been thinking and feeling will come out.

“The only thing about it is, at that point in time, I have to wait until I get in the ring to really release because I can’t do it on the outside, it’d defeat the purpose.

“The baby’s got to eat, but when I do get in the ring, this is what I love about it, I’m able to release everything I’ve been feeling, everything I’ve been thinking, and get paid to do it.”

This is not the first time Wilder has claimed he will end a fighter’s life, drawing the ire of many in the sport when he declared in 2018 that he wanted a ‘body on his record’ before reiterating the claim the following year.

“Anybody can go and on this particular time we have bad blood against each other,” he said of opponent Dominic Breazeale in 2019. “This is the only sport where you can kill a man and get paid for it at the same time.

“It’s legal. So why not use my right to do so?

“His life is on the line for this fight and I do mean his life. I’m still trying to get me a body on my record.”

Who will win Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder 3? Let us know in the comments below

Wilder has made a number of claims as to why he lost his second bout with Fury, after they drew in December 2018 with many experts believing Fury was robbed.

He has claimed Fury was tampering with his gloves, that his coach Mark Breland, who threw in the towel as the Brit was unloading on him in the seventh round, was ‘disloyal’, and that his ring walk suit was too heavy and weighed him down, among others.

Fury has denied these claims, but it hasn’t stopped the American insisting he was cheated out of this title.

“We know he doesn’t have any power,” Wilder said, despite being knocked down twice by Fury. “He gave me the best of him in that ring and I took it all, I knew what was going on with my body, I felt it when the mask [on his ring walk suit] came off.

“Everybody at the top of the arena looking at the screen knew there was something off with me, I could have gone back to my corner and said ‘I don’t feel right I shouldn’t fight’.

“But I accepted the challenge, I heard that bell ding and I said ‘let’s go’, because that’s my warrior mentality, the warrior mindset.”

FBI Arrest Another Nigerian in U.S. for stealing $800,000 in payroll hacking

The U.S. authorities allege that the suspect ran the scheme between July 2017 and 2018, through hacking of over 5,500 company user accounts.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has arrested a Nigerian, Charles Onus, for his alleged involvement in diverting $800,000 into prepaid debit cards.

The amount translates to about N320 million at the current official rate of N410 per dollar.

This comes less than a month after Abidemi Rufai, an aide to Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, was arrested for fraud in the United States.

According to a statement on the United State Department of Justice website, Mr Onus was arrested and detained on April 14, in San Francisco.

He was presented before the Manhattan federal court on Wednesday.

The prosecution accused him of hacking over 5,500 company user accounts.

He allegedly participated in a scheme that stole nearly $1 million by hacking into a payroll processing company’s system to access user accounts and divert payroll to prepaid debit cards he controlled.

“As alleged, Onus did this as effectively as someone who commits bank burglary, but with no need for a blowtorch or bolt-cutters. Thanks to the FBI and IRS-CI, Onus is in custody and facing serious federal charges,” the statement read in part.

In the indictments filed against him in court, Mr Onus allegedly participated in the scheme between July 2017 through about 2018, obtaining over 5,500 company user accounts through a cyber-intrusion technique referred to as “credential stuffing.”

“After Onus successfully gained unauthorised access to a company user account, he changed the bank account information designated by the user of the account so that Onus would receive the user’s payroll to a prepaid debit card that was under Onus’ control.

“From at least in or about July 2017 through at least in or about 2018, at least approximately 5,500 company user accounts were compromised and more than approximately $800,000 in payroll funds were fraudulently diverted to prepaid debit cards, including those under the control of Onus,” the statement partly read.

Charges
He was charged with “one count of computer fraud for causing damage to a protected computer, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

“One count of computer fraud for unauthorised access to a protected computer to further intended fraud, and one count of receipt of stolen money, each of which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison; one count of wire fraud, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison; and one count of aggravated identity theft, which carries a mandatory sentence of two years in prison to be served consecutively to any other sentence imposed,” the statement further read.

PREMIUM TIMES had earlier reported how Mr Rufai, an aide to Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun was arrested for $350,000 fraud in the U.S. last month.

He was arrested while trying to board Royal Dutch Airlines flight KL644 at John F. Kennedy International Airport (“JFK Airport”) in Queens, New York, to Amsterdam, with a final destination of Lagos, Nigeria.

He is to be arraigned on fraud charges before a United States Courthouse, in Tacoma, Washington, on June 8, 2021.

Mr Onus’ arrest adds to the growing list of Nigerians arrested for cybercrimes abroad. Some of the common allegations many some of the Nigerian suspects have been accused of include bank verification number scams, fraudulent emails, hacking, cyber harassment, spamming, ATM spoofing, social media hi-jacking etcetera), and exploits vulnerabilities of both electronic devices and their users.

This act destroys the reputation of a country, making the business environment difficult for start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises, while discouraging investment in the economy by foreign companies.

“I didn’t marry him for his look”- Mide Martins says as she reveals real reason for marrying Afeez Owo

Really, no woman loves poverty. Every spinster wants a charming prince with wads of naira bills. Truth be told, a large percentage of single ladies would hardly go for a man who earns N50,000 monthly and he’s without a car!

But hundreds would do anything to get a rich bachelor with a fantastic pay or a booming business who can foot the bill of a grand wedding that is Instagram-worthy.

You can count the number of ladies who ‘build the future’ with an ‘upcoming’ guy.

Build a future? Yes, the way Mide Funmi Martins did with her husband Afeez Abiodun aka Afeez Owo.

Mide, who is the daughter of late actress, Funmi Martins grabbed what life thrust at her when she lost her beautiful mother.

Afeez Owo was her late mother’s manager who helped her with all the works the deceased could not complete before her death.

You would agree that Afeez is not a ‘Prince Charming’, unlike his beautiful wife. Well, Mide gave a reason why she agreed to date him 20 years ago.

She confessed that she rejected him when he initially asked her out.

“Of course, it sounded strange when he initially came up with that idea, I asked him if he was okay. I did not even think it would be possible because I saw him like my brother and we were very close. Initially, I told him it was not possible for us to become lovers but with time, I saw some qualities in him which I admired.”

The qualities the beautiful actress and now mother of two saw was not money because Afeez wasn’t rich or good-looking then.

Maybe she can explain in her own words, “He proved to be a reliable person. He is faithful, caring and has a good heart plus the fact that he is very easy-going. All of these appealed to me and I reasoned that I should give him a chance in my life.”

Still staying happily married 19 years after, Mide would advise any lady seeking a man to marry to adhere to this advice:

First, she proffered patience.

“It is good to be patient because not all that glitters is gold. My marriage has been a success because I practiced patience. When we started, things were not as smooth as I wanted it to be but I was patient with him. We had our good and bad times but it’s necessary that you remain calm during the bad times.”

This is her number two advice—shun money.

She advised in an interview with PUNCH:

“Remember that money does not guarantee happiness. Bachelors and spinsters should marry someone that is reliable and makes them happy.”

The third tip on how to get a good husband is from Afeez. A actor/producer/director, he should be able to know who the ‘good girls’ are.

Advising women, Afeez said he married not only a beautiful woman but one who has motherly traits.

He said, “My wife is beautiful and I realized that she is a simple person who has got a good head on her shoulders. When my ex-girlfriend cheated on me then, she was one of the people who begged on her behalf but I had already made up my mind. It was after a while I started dating Mide. We have been married for almost 19 years now and she is like my mother and I love her so much.”

Ladies, ready to embrace these characteristics as you search for Mr. Right? Please do.

The couple is blessed with two children.
