A couple identified as Onyinmiebi and Beatrice Bribena who was declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) has said they never received any invite for any questioning or interrogation before declaring them as wanted persons.
The president of Baraza Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited (BMCSL), Pastor Oyinmiebi Bribena and his wife, Beatrice, on Saturday, June 11th was declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for allegedly defrauding Nigerians to the tune of N2Billion
The statement was signed by the Head, Media and Publicity of EFCC, Wilson Uwujuren.
Reacting to the declaration, Bribena, who is also a pastor in a popular church told the Nation: “We did not receive an invitation letter from the EFCC and were not aware of any summons or pending charge against us by the EFCC.
“It is therefore surprising that the commission will go to such length to damage our reputation and make me and my family go through ‘media trial’.”
He said the EFCC had no right to interfere in disputes between members of the cooperative society, considering the provisions of the Nigerian Cooperative Societies Act of 2004.
He added that the anti-graft agency did not invite them for interrogation before declaring them wanted.
He said that some members of the cooperative society had approved that the cooperative traded with their contributions at an Online Foreign Exchange Market for monthly returns, which ran smoothly until the unfortunate events where most of the funds were lost in the market.
He said despite the loss, he has been making efforts to recover and refund members their contribution as authorised by the general meeting of the cooperative, but the actions of the EFCC had constituted a spoke in the wheel of progress.
Brianna, who assured contributors, pleaded they remain calm, adding that all hope was not lost, and stated that he would not relent in the efforts being made to clear his name.
The Lagos State Police Commissioner’s Special Squad has detained five policemen attached to singer, Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy, for attempted murder after they shot two men identified as Irebami Lawrence and one Tolu at Club Cubana on Victoria Island, Lagos, on Wednesday, June 8.
Punch reports that a preliminary report by the Bar Beach Police Division states that trouble started when the singer and five police escorts visited the nightclub around 4am on June 8. About four policemen waited outside while one of the policemen, identified as Inspector Ibrahim, who was in mufti, accompanied the Grammy-Award-winning artiste into the club.
The publication stated that according to multiple witness statements, the singer was in the VIP section with three women when he spotted another woman. He was reported to have told Ibrahim to invite the woman to join him. Unknown to him, the lady was with her husband who got angry and accused the singer of making advances on his wife when he was with her.
After some minutes, Burna Boy allegedly made fresh advances at the woman. This infuriated her husband further and his friends who had gathered at the club.
“As things were getting heated, Ibrahim brought out his service pistol and shot multiple times while Burna Boy was laughing,” said a senior policeman
In the process, 27-year-old Lawrence was shot in the thigh while his friend, Tolu, was hit in the head by a bullet. This caused a commotion in the club.
It was learnt that Burna Boy and his crew then drove off to one of his properties at the Elegushi end of the Lekki-Epe Expressway before leaving for Lekki Phase 1.
“Aware of what he had done, Burna Boy took the next flight out without even informing the policemen. He only made a video call to them to inform them that he had traveled to Spain. All his police escorts have been arrested and are currently at the Command headquarters,” said a top source at the office of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police.
A friend of one of the victims said they came into Nigeria from the UK and US for a wedding, before the unfortunate incident happened.
”My Guys came to 9ja from England & Usa Respectively 4 a wedding.I invited dem out to club cubana a petty altercation with Burna Boy’s people arose (Cos of woman). The next thing Bullets started flying , one got scraped in the head by a bullet and the other one got shot in the leg.
When we rushed him to the Naval Medic Center they said they had no blood and he needed 3 pints of O+ blood , they said none of us can donate because we had been drinking from the club and then my friend started to shake on the hospital bed like he was losing his life
Good samaritan soldiers then offered to give a pint of blood each which was then used to stabilize him. The doctor said the iphone in his pocket which the bullet went through slowed down the bullet making it less fatal , the iphone saved his life”

The Anambra State Joint Security Task Force has demolished an alleged criminal hideout at Oba, Idemili South Council Area of the state.
This was in accordance with Gov Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s directive that criminal hideouts be destroyed to curtail the increasing criminal cases in the state.

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke has rejected N50 million cash intervention to end the ongoing strike.
Recall that ASUU has been on strike since February over funding of the revitalisation of public universities, Earned Academic Allowances, University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS) and promotion arrears and the renegotiation of 2009 ASUU-FG Agreement and the inconsistency in the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System.
ASUU President, Prof. Osodeke, and his team were on Saturday morning invited by the host of Berekete Family radio, Ahmad Isah, popularly known as Ordinary President.
According to DailyTrust, ASUU President was invited to explain to Nigerians the problems and reasons the union is still on strike.
Isah also said that he had set up a special intervention bank account domiciled in TAJ Bank to raise funds for the union, with a view to ending the strike.
To convince ASUU to buy into the idea of the intervention, Isah publicly showed the N50 million cash donated by Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State.
Immediately after the money was displayed, ASUU President frowned at the development, saying they should not be associated with such.
At that point, Isah threatened to discontinue the intervention and many Nigerians who phoned in during the programme described ASUU as ”insensitive”.
El-Rufai Reveals Why Northern Governors Dumped Osinbajo For TinubuBola Tinubu, Nasir El-Rufai and Yemi Osinbajo
Days after the national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held in Abuja, Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has explained why the Northern governor backed Bola Tinubu over Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Naija News reports that former Governor of Lagos State, Tinubu emerged winner of the APC presidential primary.
He defeated the likes of VP Osinbajo, Former Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, Senate President Ahmad Lawan, Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, Pastor Tunde Bakare and others.
Speaking on Tinubu’s victory at the party’s just-concluded national convention, El-Rufai said APC delegates and governors from the North-West and North-East met and resolved to back Tinubu after seeing him as the most sellable of the five Southern aspirants submitted to President Muhammadu Buhari earlier.
He said the president refused to pick a particular candidate and asked the governor to allow the delegates to decide.
El-Rufai insisted that Tinubu was the best bet and hence the Northern stakeholders choose him over Osinbajo, Amaechi and others.
He said: “I can’t say all of us stuck with Bola Tinubu. Not all of us were stuck with Bola Tinubu. In many of our states, the delegates’ votes were divided. And I went to address the Kaduna delegates for the last time before the voting,
“I don’t know how the delegates voted but the feedback I got after the voting is that most of them voted Asiwaju, some voted for Amaechi and some voted for Vice president, Osinbajo.
“But overall you can see that overwhelming, Asiwaju Tinubu won. I cannot say all the governors did that. We the Northwest governors met and we decided that our best bet, is the person we can most easily sell in our region, and that is Asiwaju Tinubu and this is why you see the pattern of the voting that way and where the North-West goes, the North East follows.”
