BREAKING: Yoruba activist, Adeyinka Grandson sentenced to 4.5 years in Prison

 

 

Yoruba activist, Adeyinka Grandson has been sentenced to 4 and a half years in prison.

He was convicted of inciting racial hatred for posting messages on social media encouraging violence in Nigeria has been jailed.

The British Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command launched an investigation in March 2019 as a direct result of members of the public raising concerns to police about online social media posts which contained comments aimed at particular ethnic groups based in Nigeria.

The posts were created by accounts under the name “Adeyinka Grandson” and were reported to police

He was investigated by specialist officers within the Met’s Counter Terrorism Internet Referral Unit (CTIRU).

After assessing some of his content on social media, which contained commentary encouraging attacks against certain ethnic groups in Nigeria, officers determined these posts were potentially in breach of UK legislation and a formal investigation was launched.

The activity was all found to be linked to Grandson whose real names are Adeyinka Shoyemi.

Shoyemi was found guilty on 30 November 2021 of eight counts of inciting racial hatred after a trial at Southwark Crown Court.

Commander Richard Smith, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, said: “Our Counter Terrorism Internet Referral Unit – the first of its kind to be established anywhere in the world – was instrumental in identifying Shoyemi and his activity.

“Over the last ten years, the CTIRU has been at the forefront of getting harmful content removed from the internet, and detecting and investigating potential terrorist-related activity online.

“We continue to need the help and support of the public and I would encourage anyone who comes across material or posts that could be related to terrorism or violent extremist activity to report it to us, so that our specialist officers can take action where necessary.”

 

Hotel Manager Allegedly Rapes Corp Member In Osun

 

The Osun State Police Command has arrested a manager of one of the hotels in Osogbo, Joseph Adeleye, for allegedly raping a member of the National Youth Service Corps.

The victim (name withheld) was deployed to the hotel which is located at GRA area of Osogbo for primary assignment.and she is working as the administrative officer of the hotel.

The corps member, who narrated how the incident happened to some journalists on Friday said she was raped in the hotel while on duty at around 8:30pm.

The corps member said she did not initially tell her colleagues what happened to her but she eventually told them when they asked her what was wrong with her because are contenance changed.

She said, “The manager, Mr Adeleye requested that I should bring a bottle of beer to his room, after he collected it, he started asking me what my plans were after the NYSC programme.

” I was not too fine with it because we were alone in a room. Few minutes later, he started touching me and I resisted by pulling his hands off my body

“But suddenly, he pulled me closer and turned my face on the bed and put his hand in my trousers. I struggled with him but he overpowered me and inserted his fingers in my private parts.

“He then pulled off my trousers from behind, turned my face up and wanted to penetrate into my private parts. I resisted but he was too heavy on me.

” I even bit him, yet, he carried on. I shouted on top of my voice but no one could hear me because the room was a bit far from where other members of staff were.

“He penetrated me and he poured his semen in my body and pant. When he discovered that I couldn’t breath very well, he stood and I ran out of the room.

“The following day, two of my female colleagues who are corps members discovered I was not playing or relating with them very well.

” They asked what happened. I couldn’t tell them at first, but when I couldn’t hold the tears anymore, I told them what happened to me and they encouraged me to report the matter to the police and I did. The manager was later arrested and detained.”

The NYSC Coordinator in Osun State , Winifred Sopeka, who spoke on the telephone said she was busy at the orientation camp.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Osun State Police command, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the arrest.

She said, “The corps member said she was raped on March 25, 2022 around 8:30pm at the hotel which is her Primary Place of Assignment.

“She reported the case to us and we arrested the suspect who is the manager of the hotel named Joseph Adeleye. He is still with us and will be charged to court soon.”

BREAKING: Umahi wins as Appeal Court dismisses Case, to remain Governor

 

An Appeal Court in Enugu has dismissed a suit against Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi and his Deputy Dr. Kelechi Igwe, seeking their removal from office for defecting to the All Progressives Congress, APC from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The suit was filed by Senator Soni Ogbuoji and his Deputy, Justin Mbam, candidates of the APC in the 2019 Guber Elections.

It was earlier reported that an Abuja High Court presided over by Justice Inyang Ekwo had sacked Umahi, Igwe and 17 lawmakers in the state for defecting from PDP to the APC.

However, on Tuesday, February 28, 2022, a High Court sitting in Abakaliki struck out the same suit

On Friday, Justice A.O Belgore dismissed the suit for being inconsistent with the constitution and extant laws of the country.

The ‘OBO’ crooner made this known on Twitter on Friday.

A Popular Nollywood comic actor, Dejo Tunfulu is Dead. His demise was announced by his friend and fellow actor, Kunle Afod.

The cause of his death is yet to be ascertained.

Popular radio presenter, Adeyemi Olabode, also posted on his known Facebook page: “I saw the post about your demise and hurriedly called your line so you can debunk the ‘April fool’ news, but alas! It was picked by your son. You were so kind and down to earth.”

During his secondary school days, he joined the entertainment society and that became the beginning of his career in acting.

The late actor was known through the television programme he featured in called “Theatre Omode.” The name of the first movie he acted in was Aje ni Iya mi, which is a home video.

 

2023 Presidency: Obasanjo Reveals The Type Of Candidates Nigerians Must Not Vote For

 

 

Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has stated that some 2023 presidential aspirants have already started lying to Nigerians and should be ignored at the polls.
According to Chief Obasanjo, the claims by many aspirants that their nomination forms were purchased for them by some youths or a particular group is false, adding that many youths are not able to afford the heavy price tags political parties have slammed on their forms.

He added that such aspirants even if they eventually become candidates of their parties should not get the votes of Nigerians, querying why they need to lie to the people.

Naija News understands the former Nigerian leader made the submission in Lagos State during a colloquium to mark the 61st birthday of Pastor Itua Ighodalo.

He said, “Today, they are paying N40m. Some of them (aspirants) even said it is some youths who bought it for them.

“In fact, anybody who would come out to tell you such a lie, you shouldn’t vote for him. Which youths gathered N40m? If you want to buy it, buy it and tell us. You don’t need to lie to us.”

Though Obasanjo didn’t mention any particular name, the likes of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, former Anambra Governor, Peter Obi have all claimed some groups contributed money and purchased the presidential nomination forms for them.

Meanwhile, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has declared interest in succeeding President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

In a statement released on Thursday, the former governor stated that he would be contesting to be the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer in next year’s election.

 

Dangote, Al-Makura, Okocha, Others Get Nasarawa University’s Honorary Doctorate Degrees

 

Six prominent Nigerians including Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, have been conferred a Doctorate degree by the Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
Naija News understands that the individuals received the award at the varsity’s 6th combined convocation ceremony held on Thursday, March 31, 2022.

The school management had notified the personalities in letters ahead of the event.

Other prominent citizens awarded with honorary doctorate degrees at the academic excellent event were a former Governor of Nasarawa State, currently serving senator representing Nasarawa South at the National Assembly, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura and Malami Mele Kyari, Group Managing Director, NNPC.

Other recipients of the awards were Chief Peter Eloka Okocha, the Chief Executive Officer of Okocha Motors; Alhaji Aliyu Balarabe, businessman and the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami SAN.

Naija News reports that the ceremony which received the presence of dignitaries was held at the Convocation Centre of the institution.

Meanwhile, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Education and Associated Institutions have announced that they will be embarking on a strike.

Naija News reports that the two-week warning strike action according to the association, will commence on March 27.

This was made known in a letter titled “Commencement of Two-Week Warning Strike”, released last week Friday by the Joint Action Committee of NASU and SSANU and signed by SSANU President, Mohammed Ibrahim, and NASU General Secretary, Peters Adeyemi.

The national bodies of SSANU and NASU asked its members in universities and inter-university centres to begin the warning strike.

 

Jonathan Rejects Presidency Conditions For Getting APC Presidential Ticket – Source

 

Former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan has rejected the conditions given to him by the presidency to clinch the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress in 2023.

A source that spoke with SaharaReporters disclosed that the presidency asked Jonathan to join the ruling party with some Peoples Democratic Party governors in the South-South and South-East regions.

The source further stated that the former president rejected the conditions and told the presidency that he doesn’t have an interest in the 2023 presidency again.

It was gathered the presidency was embarrassed by the response of Jonathan, describing him as a traitor.

The source said, “They are now accusing Jonathan of not fulfilling some of his promises after all the several meetings and soft-landing given to him.

“He was to come on board by converting some PDP states in the South-South and South-East to APC, and that way he would get the automatic ticket uncontested. Some other conditions were also given to him.

“But guess what? He told them he won’t contest again. They are now angry, saying he was deceitful. They said after getting some of his seized monies back, his wife’s monies returned to him, he finally decided not to contest.”

This is coming a few days after a former Minister from the South-South was reported to have said the former president is set to decide if he would join the APC with the convention of the ruling party now over.

Eguavoen Resigns As Super Eagles Technical Adviser After Failing To Qualify Nigeria For World Cup

 

Super Eagles interim Technical Adviser, Austin Eguavoen, has resigned following his failure to lead the team to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Eguavoen’s resignation is coming two days after the Black Stars of Ghana clinched the ticket to Qatar in a contest between the two West African nations.

The Nigerian Football Federation made the disclosure in a statement on Thursday.

NFF said, “Following the failure of the Super Eagles of Nigeria to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the erstwhile Technical Adviser, Augustine Eguavoen has stepped down from that position with immediate effect.

“The NFF has in the meantime withdrawn the two-and-half year’s contract offered the coaches and terminated the appointment of the entire technical crew of the team with immediate effect.

“A new crew will be announced after a proper review to lead the new charge of reinvigorating the Super Eagles to face future challenges appropriately.

“We thank the coaches and team officials for their service to the nation and wish them success in their future endeavours,” said NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi.

Eguavoen who was appointed interim coach of the Super Eagles prior to the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON 2021, resigned the role to settle as technical adviser when Nigeria lost to Tunisia in the round of 16.

He has since then acted as the interim technical adviser, the position he had previously held.

The poor performance of the Super Eagles had led to the sack of former German coach, Gernot Rhor. The NFF had engaged the services of Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro pending the outcome of the nations cup.

On Tuesday, the newly renovated turf hosted the final leg of Nigeria vs Ghana World Cup play-off but the Ghanaians snatched the ticket from their host in a dramatic fashion through away goal rule.

Angry Nigerian fans invaded the pitch after a 1:1 draw against Ghana forcing players and officials to run for their life into the changing room.

FIFA medical officer Dr. Joseph Kabungo who had cardiac arrest on his way to the dressing room was rushed to hospital but he passed on

Joseph suffered a cardiac arrest during the commotion and was pronounced dead soon after.

Dr. Joseph Kabungo is CAF medical committee member who was also recently appointed to the FIFA medical committee. He served as the Zambian team doctor from 2003 to 2016.

It is not clear what other sanctions FIFA and the regional body CAF could mete out to the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF for failing to provide adequate security for the game but the too bodies frown at fans encroachment into the field of play

It could be recalled that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) disciplinary committee in May 2006 sanctioned Nigeria with a $5,000 for poor crowd control at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna, where the Super Eagles hosted Egypt in a Gabon 2017 African Nations Cup qualifier in March.

The organisers of the match allowed a crowd of over 40,000 inside the stadium designed to hold 25,000 spectators.

The Super Eagles and the Pharaohs drew 1-1 in that encounter, with the Egyptians subsequently defeating Nigeria 1-0 in the return fixture to stop the Eagles from qualifying for the competition.
