This is coming after social media celebrity, Hushpuppi alleged that he bribed Abba Kyari to arrest a co-fraudster.
The police commissioner, however, dismissed Hushpuppi’s claim, saying he did not receive any money from the socialite as alleged.

Despite Kyari’s testimony, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has secured a court order for his arrest following his indictment in the confessional statements made by the alleged fraudster.

The Conglomerate with strategic investments in the Power, Hospitality, and Energy sectors, recorded a profit after tax of N6.5bn, rising by 713% up from N0.8bn recorded in June of the previous year. Other key highlights of the result include the following:
Revenue rose by 53%, from N35.0bn in June 2020 to N53.3bn in the period under consideration.
Gross profit grew by 60%, from N14.7bn in June 2020 to N23.5bn in June 2021.
Profit before tax rose by 689% from N0.9bn in June 2020 to N7.1b in June 2021.
Commenting on the performance, Transcorp’s President/Group CEO, Mrs. Owen Omogiafo, reiterated the Conglomerate’s commitment towards producing long-term value and sustainable impact. “We are pleased to see the sustained growth in our group performance, which was achieved as a result of the improved performance across all the sectors we operate in. The revenue achieved in our power business grew by 48%, as a result of improved gas supply and increased generation capacity”, she stated.
Commenting on the hospitality sector, Omogiafo stated that the company’s strategic actions have resulted in a growth in revenue of up to 84%, despite the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on the Nigerian and global hospitality industries. Ecobank’s Half-Year Profit Jumps By 33%, Revenue Rises
Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) recorded a 33.04 per cent rise in its profit before tax for the first half of the year ended June 30, 2021. In its unaudited financial statement for the first half of the year 2021, Ecobank said its operating income improved by 15.35 per cent year-on-year from June 30, 2020. It said its operating profit before impairment charges and taxation rose by 32.62 per cent to N138.26bn.
At the end of H1 2021, Ecobank’s total assets increased to N11.02tn from N10.38tn in December 2020. The loans and advances to its customers fell from N3.70tn in H1 2020 to N3.63tn in H1 2021, while customer deposits in all its operating locations increased by 7.38 per cent from N7.32tn to N7.86tn. the total equity depreciated by 1.06 per cent as it reduced from N811.75m to N803.18bn.
Commenting, Ade Ayeyemi, Ecobank Group CEO, said: “We saw continued and sustained resilience in our performance, which is indicative of the success of our ‘execution momentum’ drive. As a result, we generated a return on tangible equity of 16.1% versus 15.2% a year ago and increased diluted EPS and tangible book value per share by 19% and 6%, respectively. In addition, profit before tax increased 23% to $210 million.”
“Group revenues rose 7% to $825 million, despite the challenging operating environment with the third wave of coronavirus infections threatening economic recovery. Our diversified pan-African business model continued to rise to the challenge. Revenues grew 13% and 6% in our Commercial and Consumer businesses, while our focus on growing the trade business led to increased trade assets. The slowly increasing business and spend activity drove a 20% rise in our Payments business’s revenue to $90 million. Deposits growth was strong, with total deposits now over $19 billion, an increase of $1.0 billion in the second quarter and $2.4 billion in a year, driven by our omnichannel strategy. Though loan growth remained flat, we are focused on providing support to MSMEs for growth,” Ayeyemi added.
“I am proud of the team’s hard work in driving efficiency, which continues to reflect in our cost-to-income ratio of 58.7% ahead of guidance and progressing well toward our medium-term goal of approximately 55%. In addition, credit quality continued to be exceptionally strong. As a result, our NPL ratio of 7.4% is a substantial improvement from the prior year’s 9.8%, as we also build reserves to insulate the balance sheet with an NPL coverage ratio of 86.7% and pushing towards our near-term target of 90%,” Ayeyemi continued.
“We successfully raised $350 million Tier 2 Sustainability Notes in June, the first-ever by a financial institution in sub-Saharan Africa and first to have a Basel III-compliant 10-year non-call 5 structure outside South Africa in 144A/RegS format. The Bond was 3.6 times oversubscribed, demonstrating strong confidence in the Ecobank Group and our commitment to the sustainability of our communities and their social needs. The Kaduna State Command of the Nigeria Police has arrested a notorious gun runner identified as Geoffrey Ayuba.
The suspect was arrested by operatives of the Kafanchan Divisional Headquarters on Wednesday, 28th July based on credible intelligence.
Ayuba was intercepted while driving his Opel Vectra vehicle with registration number KAF 733 MK and when a search was conducted, various dangerous weapons were found hidden in the car bonnet near the engine compartment.
According to the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Muhammed Jalige who confirmed the incident in a statement, one AK-47 rifle and two packs of pump-action cartridges were hidden in the bonnet of the suspect’s car.
Jalige, said: “The Operatives of the Kaduna Police Command attached to Kafanchan Divisional Headquarters on July 28, 2021, at about 1600hrs while acting on reliable information from a good samaritan, intercepted an Opel Vectra vehicle with registration number KAF 733 MK driven by one Geoffrey Ayuba ‘m’ of Unguwan Rimi Kafanchan in Jema’a LGA of Kaduna State.”
The statement further said that weapons concealed in the engine compartment of the car were recovered by the operatives after a careful search of the vehicle.
“Investigations are ongoing as the suspect has provided useful information to the Police that will facilitate further breakthroughs,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Government has filed fresh charges against the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.
Recall that Justice Gideon Kurada of the Kaduna State High Court had discharged and acquitted El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat of all charges levelled against them.
The judge ruled that the charges against El-Zakzaky and his wife were not supposed to be filed, as the state government cannot arraign someone for a crime that was not an offence at the time.
Nigerian singer and YBNL boss, Olamide has disclosed why he decided to sign his music act, Fireboy DML.
Olamide was quizzed about the reason he took Fireboy DML in to mentor him aside from signing him. He intimated that he could see that Fireboy was different with his style of music and deep appreciation for his songwriting ability.
Olamide said:
“It’s the sound. Still today, for me, it’s still the same. There are so many young artists out there but they’re nothing compared to the kind of music Fireboy makes. It’s just way beyond his age. Kaduna Govt Files Fresh Charges Against IMN Leader, El-Zakzaky
The Kaduna State Government has filed fresh charges against the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.
Recall that Justice Gideon Kurada of the Kaduna State High Court had discharged and acquitted El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat of all charges levelled against them.
The judge ruled that the charges against El-Zakzaky and his wife were not supposed to be filed, as the state government cannot arraign someone for a crime that was not an offence at the time.
Justice Kurada had found that the charges were filed against the duo in 2018 pursuant to the Penal Law enacted by the state government in 2017 over an alleged offence committed in 2015.
Speaking with Daily Trust on Thursday, counsel to the state government, Dari Bayero, said fresh charges have been filed against the IMN leader under the Treason and Treasonable Offences Act before a Federal High Court.
Bayero, however, said it was not in agreement with the reasoning and conclusion of Justice Kurada, noting that the government would appeal the case.
He said, “We are going to appeal, there is no doubt about it, in fact, we have obtained the court judgement because we are not in agreement with my Lord’s reasoning and conclusion, it is not in consonance with the facts on ground.”

Activist, Deji Adeyanju has warned the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to avoid making Atiku Abubakar its Presidential Candidate in the upcoming 2023 General elections.
The fiery critic pointed out that APC will win because it will be presenting someone ‘fresh’. In a series of tweets on Friday, he pointed out that Atiku would not be a good choice for the party.
