BREAKING: Sanwo-Olu cancels Lagos #EndSARS ‘Peace Walk’ over Omicron variant

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday cancelled the Lagos peace walk planned for this month.

POLITICS NIGERIA recalls that Sanwo-Olu, in an address on November 30, 2021, had invited some EndSARS frontline protesters in the state to a peace walk for “the healing of Lagos”.

Specifically, the governor had invited Folarin Falana (Falz), Debo Adebayo (Mr. Marcaroni), Dele Farotimi, Temitope Majekodunmi, Segun Awosanya (Segalink), Adedotun (Just Detoun), Seun Kuti and others to join him in the “historic march for our dear Lagos.”

But Falz, Mr Macaroni, Seun Kuti, amongst some arrowheads of the protest had declined the invitation, saying there must be justice for EndSARS victims before peace.

Subsequently, in a press statement today, Sanwo-Olu said he is “constrained to stand down all preparations for the Walk for Peace” so as not to “endanger the life of any Lagosian” amid the outbreak of the Omicron COVID-19 variant.

His words, “Between Tuesday 30, November 2021 that I made my address and now, we have seen a significant rise in cases associated with the Omicron variant of this pandemic.

“Given this development, I am constrained to stand down all preparations for the Walk for Peace. I will not endanger the life of any Lagosian in my sincere search for peace. I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of support the initiative received from far and near. The deluge of support is, however, indicative of one thing: our people know the strategic place of peace to our quest for development.”

Buhari Denies Ordering Sack Of AEDC Management

The Presidency has denied President Muhammadu Buhari ordered the immediate sack of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) management.
Reports had emerged that Buhari had through the minister of state for power ordered the sack of the AEDC management over the recent strike embarked upon by electricity workers.

But in a swift statement on Wednesday, Buhari’s media aide, Garba Shehu distanced the president from the news item making the rounds.

According to Shehu, since the privatization of the Power Sector in 2013, the management of the successor companies has reverted to the new owners.

He said: “It is, therefore, totally out of place and inconceivable that the President would be linked to the management of a private organization, let alone sacking it.

“It is gladdening to note that the minister quoted in the statement has himself distanced himself from it.

“The Presidency, therefore, wishes to state expressly and reassure investors in the economy that President Buhari did not order the sack of the management of AEDC, neither does he intend to interfere in the running of the affairs of private business entities.

“The Presidency, however, welcomes ongoing discussions with relevant stakeholders to resolve the issues surrounding the recent developments in the company.”

Naija News reports that the Nigerian Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) on Monday embarked on a strike to demand their unpaid allowances, salaries and unremitted pension deductions.

This strike by the electricity workers left some areas in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kogi, Nasarawa and Niger states without power for hours.

Jailbreaks: I Don’t See Any Reason To Resign – Aregbesola

Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesoa has said the calls for his resignation over recent jailbreaks in the country are unnecessary.

This as the Minister maintained that he won’t be resigning his position over the cases of jailbreak in the country.

Aregbesola made the position known on Wednesday while speaking with State House correspondents after the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the State House in Abuja.

He argued that those agitating for his resignation must understand the enormous security challenges facing the nation at this time and the sacrifices been made by security agents and agencies in tackling the situation.

Naija News recalls there have been a series of jailbreaks in different parts of the nation with the latest being the Jos Correctional Centre attack which happened in November 2021 in which hundreds of prisoners escaped while an officer of the service was also killed.

The development has sparked renewed calls for Aregbesola’s resignation as the nation’s custodial centers (prisons) are under the supervision of his ministry.

The Minister has however said he won’t be resigning.

“Morally, the state owes itself the responsibility of safe custody that must not be violated. So, on that account alone, we must appreciate the enormity of any successful attack on our custodial facility and I so do. But I want us to put these things in the context of our security situation,” he said.

“In Jos, our men died, meaning that the best we could put there was there and when your best could not suffice, it means that it is no longer a question of inability to make preparation or failure for preparedness, it is just that at that instance, we could not just hold the defence as expected.

“As to whether it calls for my resignation, I still don’t see any need for that because it’s not for lack of preparedness that the attacks were successful. No.”

He, however, assured that the federal government will scale up security within and around the various custodial centers to forestall such attacks in the future.

“What I can assure Nigerians is this: Yes, as contextual as these attacks and the successes such criminals are having, we are upping our game and we will not allow it. We will prevent any such opportunistic attack and even make it impossible. And that is what the state must do,” he said.

“We are working with all arms of government, particularly the security, to make our custodial facilities impregnable. We will not rest until that is achieved. That’s the assurance I want to give Nigerians.”

As part of the renewed efforts, the Minister disclosed the FEC on Wednesday granted approval for the sum of N965.9 million to be expended on the purchase of 49 operational vehicles for the correctional service.

The new vehicles will be added to the 513 operational vehicles the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) already possesses.

“The Nigerian Correctional Service, through the ministry of interior, presented a memo to council and obtained approval to spend the sum of N965,902,524.58 to procure 49 operational and Green Maria vehicles,” he said.

“These 49 vehicles will complement the 513 operational and Green Maria vehicles already purchased between 2016 and 2020.”

The Lagos State Government has shut down Bab Fafunwa Millennium School, Ojodu, formerly Ojodu Grammar School until January 2022.

Education commissioner Folashade Adefisayo announced this when she visited the school on Wednesday morning.

He was said to have attempted to prevent further attacks on the boys when the hoodlums shot him dead.

His wife, Bunmi, said she ran into the compound when the hoodlums asked them to stay out of the fracas.

”Last Sunday, My husband and I went to see one of his friends that stays on the same street with us.

“Suddenly, some men ran towards where we were standing by the gate. My husband was trying to park his motorcycle then. So, two gunmen came with bike and started beating the boys that ran to us.

“My husband challenged them. But they told him that they were not there for him and that he should go inside the gate. I went in immediately, but my husband was still outside standing by his motorcycle.

Fani-Kayode Could Not Perform In Bed For Six Years – Precious Chikwendu Reveals

The estranged wife of a former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, Precious Chikwendu has told a customary court of the Federal Capital Territory that he has erectile dysfunction.

The former beauty queen further stated that the chieftain of the All Progressives Congress never had sexual intercourse with her in their six-year relationship because of his alleged challenge.

According to Chikwendu, the four children she had with the former minister were conceived through artificial insemination.

Chikwendu claimed that she was forced to be celibate during her relationship with Fani-Kayode.

She also told the court that the former minister did not perform any rites before their marriage nor paid her bride price.

The estranged wife of Fani-Kayode charged the court to declare that she was never married to the APC chieftain.

Like she has done several times, Chikwendu accused Fani-Kayode of assaulting her while they were married, adding that the former minister lied to her that his marriage to his third wife had ended.

The petitioner, Chikwendu stated this in her November 29, 2021 “Application for issuance of civil summons/plaint” against Fani-Kayode, the respondent.

The suit, numbered FCT/CCK8/01/043/2021, was filed by her counsel, Mr Abiodun E. Olusanya.

She is seeking the following reliefs:

“An order declaring that there was no customary marriage between the petitioner and the respondent (despite their six-year cohabitation) under the Nanka, Orumba North, Anambra State of Igbo native law and customs.

“Alternatively, assuming by the evidence during the trial the court finds that there was a customary marriage between parties:

“An order dissolving the customary marriage between the petitioner and the respondent forthwith.

“An order granting the petitioner access to and custody of the four children of the cohabitation between parties especially during their academic calendar.

“An order ordering the respondent to be continuously responsible for the academic, medical, clothing and welfare of the four children of the cohabitation.

“An order ordering the respondent to release and return the Petitioner’s property.”

“The properties are the petitioner’s certificates and documents, trophies from the United Nations pageantry, Red Range Rover SUV, registered under her foundation’s name and the foundation’s certificates and the petitioner’s picture, among others.”

She identified others as her mother’s burial videos and souvenirs, her mother’s certificates and documents, her clothes and personal belongings including gadgets, sewing machines left at the children’s play area and her refrigerator and kitchen gadgets for her food company, Mommy Pee Food.

Chikwendu said her relationship with Fani-Kayode was full of “woes, lies, deceits, quarrels, assaults, battery and domestic violence, lack of trust and absence of love, public disgrace and shame, and absence of sex due to the inability to sexually perform and intolerable behaviour of the respondent.”

“She contended that there was never a marriage between the parties on the ground, among others, that the respondent “has continuously behaved in such a way that the Petitioner cannot reasonably be expected to continue to live with the respondent any further or formally enter into any form of traditional marriage whit him.”

She added: “From the inception of the cohabitation, the Respondent has been a violent person who attacks the Petitioner and her family members at will without provocation.”

She averred that in 2016 when the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) raided Fani-Kayode’s house, she found his marriage certificate with his third wife, Regina.

She said she confronted him with it and requested to see their divorce certificate, following which he allegedly confessed that he had yet to do so.

Chinwendu said, “At every attempt, the petitioner made to have sexual intercourse with the respondent, there was never erection of the respondent’s penis/manhood and penetration was frustrating.

“During such periods of frustration and sexual desire, the petitioner would be left with the choice of merely rubbing herself on the respondent, to have the slightest bit of relief.

“The petitioner then insisted parties should seek medical help for the respondent, and on visiting the family doctor, the respondent claimed he was diagnosed of having a cyst on his penis/manhood, which is not allowing the respondent to have erection and or perform sexually.

“The respondent was supposedly placed on cyprotab and the doctor suggested that the respondent should go and decide when he wishes to remove/untangle the cyst.

“Few days after the visit to the doctor, the respondent informed the petitioner that he had discussed with Regina and she had prayed over it, that the respondent should not do the operation, else he would die.

“The respondent never took the cyprotab medication, but any time the petitioner tried to engage the respondent in sexual activities, the respondent would claim his penis/manhood was paining him and then drink the medication.

“The petitioner bought sex toys for the respondent, but the respondent refused to use it and warned the petitioner never to suggest it again.

“Chikwendu averred further that since August 2020 that she walked out of the cohabitation with the Respondent, she had been continuously denied access to her children and her children have been continuously deprived parental motherly care and protection.”

She accused Fani-Kayode of not paying his domestic staff/workers/nannies, “which leaves the workers angry and they could unleash and or transfer their anger on the children, they may kill any of the children any day, if the children are left with the respondent.

“Most of the domestic staff/workers/nannies that are not paid their wages, usually resign and run away without informing anyone and considering the security situation, the workers could kidnap any of the children.

“Currently the respondent is in court with some of the former domestic staff/workers for noa payment of salaries and abuse.”
