Ex Lagos Governor, Bola Tinubu Allegedly Undergoes Knee Surgery In US, Returns To UK On Crutches

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu has allegedly undergone another knee surgery at the John Hopkins University Hospital in Maryland, the United States.

It was gathered that the former Lagos State Governor returned to the United Kingdom on crutches after undergoing the successful surgery.

According to SaharaReporters, sources revealed that the 2023 presidential hopeful wanted the surgery in Paris, France but changed his plan over rumour of his death.

The source said: “Tinubu had his second surgery at John Hopkins University in Maryland recently. He was accompanied by a popular Nigerian doctor in Chicago.

“He had wanted the surgery in Paris but when rumour was rife about his death, he hurriedly left for Nigeria and went to John Hopkins.

“He left the US for the UK on crutches.”

Recall that SaharaReporters had on July 13 claimed that Bola Tinubu was hospitalised in Maryland, the US.

the former Governor was reported to have had his first surgery.

Tinubu had been away from the political scene for a while, amidst reports of him planning to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

“Tinubu is hospitalised in Maryland, US. His health is failing. He couldn’t participate in launching his Arewa library, and he couldn’t participate in the Local Government Area elections last week. He could not attend today’s APC congress due to health reasons.

“He had surgery last week,” an authoritative source had disclosed.

Tinubu was also reported sick and hospitalised in Paris, France in January, 2021.

He had earlier complained of exhaustion and had travelled out to rest before the news of his collapse gone viral.

He was flown to Paris for medical attention in the first week of January.

“Tinubu is in Paris, France for a medical checkup. His health is deteriorating. Old age and other stuff, but he still wants to be president. This could mean another medical tourism presidency for our country,” a top source had at that time revealed.

But an aide to the former governor, Tunde Rahman, disclosed that his principal has not been hospitalised.

He insisted that Tinubu has no medical problem that would required hospitalization, saying the APC leader would soon be back.

Rahman said, “His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is fine. He is hale and hearty. He is not in any hospital. He has no medical problem that would require hospitalization. Yes, he is out of the country at the moment. He will be back shortly.

“Anytime he travels out of the country, the next thing some mischievous people would say is he is sick, hospitalized or has died. It is shameful that perpetrators of this evil are not deterred by the fact that each time this fake news has been propagated, they have been proven wrong.

“Who is afraid of Asiwaju Tinubu? Those wishing Asiwaju Tinubu evil or dead should be careful. They should know the matter of life and death is in the hand of only God Almighty.”

Governor Babajide Sanwo of Lagos State had after a recent visit to Tinubu maintained that the APC national leader is in good health.

According to the Governor, Tinubu is well and healthy contrary to some reports about his ill health.

“My going to see our leader was really around the rumours flying around about him.

“He is well and healthy. We discussed happening in our party and country at large. All is well with him as I saw myself and there is nothing to worry about,” Sanwo-Olu declared.

Breaking: Heavily Armed Police operatives Take Over APC National Secretariat In Abuja

A detachment of heavily armed police operatives on Monday, took over the surroundings of the All Progressives Congress (APC) national secretariat in Abuja.

Not less than five Hilux vans belonging to the Police were sighted along the Blantyre street location of the APC national secretariat.

The reason for the heavy security presence could not be immediately confirmed by our correspondent but there are suggestions that it may be part of efforts to prevent any protest against the continued stay in office of the Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni as the national chairman of the party’s caretaker committee.

It will be recalled that there have been diverse opinions within the party following the recent Supreme Court on the Ondo State governorship election as it affects the validity of the Gov. Buni-led Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee CECPC of the party.

NAOSRE Inaugurated CDHR Media Arm During Beko Kuti Posthumous Birthday Lecture

NAOSRE Inaugurated CDHR Media Arm During Beko Kuti Posthumous Birthday Lecture

The National Association of Online Security Reporters, NAOSRE, a media union dedicated to swift and unbiased security and human rights issues reportage, has become the media arm of the Lagos State chapter of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, a civil society.

NAOSRE was inducted in Lagos on Saturday, August 7, as part of the activities to mark the 81st Posthumous Birthday celebrations of Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti , who was one of the founding pillars of the foremost human rights organization.

Inaugurating the Comrade Femi Oyewale led NAOSRE, Comrade Kehinde Adeoye, Lagos State CDHR chairman and Barrister Malachy Ugwummadu, former CDHR President urged NAOSRE to live up to its billing as the fourth estate of the realm adding that as a constitutionally recognized institution, the media association must redouble its efforts in internalizing and externalizing the patriotic activities of CDHR through quality publicity to birth the desired Nigeria where the rule of law and respect for human rights would define the fabrics of governance.

In his welcome address, Comrade Adeoye called on journalists “To use the pen to expose all forms of human degeneration, corruption, oppression, suppression and repression until bad governance is completely eradicated.”

He described the Beko Kuti posthumous birthday lecture themed “Any Hope For Good Governance In Nigeria?” as “Highly significant because it is in honour of a foremost, uncompromising, altruistic, irrepressible and indefatigable human rights icon who fought for the emancipation of the Nigerian people from misrule, bad governance and abuse of human rights.”

Making his remarks at the public lecture, chairman of the occasion and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Mr. Femi Falana enthused that all hope is not lost but stressed that all hands must be on deck to steer the Nigerian ship to safe berthing for economic prosperity, political stability and social harmony.

He pointed out the “military junta” derailed Nigeria’s growth and steady progress during the first republic.

Therefore, he questioned the impudence of former President Ibrahim Babangida who claimed to be a saint in the face of the overwhelming corrupting that has enveloped Nigeria when he planted and nurtured the seed of corruption in the country.

Falana emphasized that one of the best ways to honour late Beko Ransome Kuti is to keep the struggle for the respect of human dignity alive which Beko lived and died for.

He reminded CDHR members and all human rights advocates, including the media, that the struggle is far from over until transparency and accountability are enthroned in democratic governance.

Highlighting the litany of Beko’s struggle for democracy, Falana disclosed that during the secret trial of Olusegun Obasanjo, Shehu Musa Yar’Adua and many others by late General Sanni Abacha “One of the convicted lawyers smuggled a small note through one of the lawyers, alerting the CDHR President of government’s plans to kill them any moment from now.

“Beko Ransome Kuti immediately organized a press conference, though it was stated that no local media published it. But BBC did.

“It was on that note, Beko Ransome Kuti was arrested and taken to a military tribunal. The only question Beko was asked was whether he owned telephone number 963-9534 and he said, I own it.

“Beko had called the BBC with that number and it was on that basis that he was sentenced to life in prison,” Falana stated.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria further enlightened members on their rights including bail which he said is free.

Barrister Affiong L. Affiong, Comrade Tunde Oladunjoye including Comrade Funmi Kuti who represented the Ransome-Kuti’s family added their voices as guest speakers and sued for commitment to the goals of CDHR so that Nigeria can be liberated from the grips of political buccaneers.

CDHR was incorporated in April 1989 during military rule and has, since then, provided invaluable supports to citizens in the defence and protection of their rights home and abroad.

Coalition Of Northern Groups, Slams PSC, Demand Review Of Abba Kyari’s Suspension

Coalition Of Northern Groups, Slams PSC, Demand Review Of Abba Kyari’s Suspension

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) and other northern Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have demanded a review of the suspension of an embattled police officer, DCP Abba Kyari.
Naija News reports that billionaire fraudster, Ramon Abbas, better known as Hushpuppi, had alleged that he bribed Kyari to arrest someone who outsmarted him in a $1.1 million scam, an allegation the police officer denied.

Kyari is currently on suspension by the Police Service Commission over an indictment by the Federal Bureau of Intelligence (FBI).

The police had set up a panel to probe Kyari while he was replaced as head of the Intelligence Response team of the force.

Reacting to Kyari’s suspension, the coalition and other CSOs condemned the Nigeria Police Force and PSC for suspending Kyari from the force.

At its meeting on Sunday, the coalition slammed both the FBI and the Nigerian Police authority for breaching Kyari’s fundamental right to a fair hearing before suspending the officer.

A communique signed by leaders of CNG and eight other organizations, and read by the CNG spokesman, Abdulazeez Sulieman, demanded an immediate transfer of Kyari’s case to the Nigeria Intelligence Agency (NIA).

The communique reads: “Participants at the roundtable critically reviewed the events that have unfolded since the reports of a purported indictment of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari by a United States Court for involvement in charges filed by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) against a suspected fraudster, Ramon Abbas Hushpuppi.

“The Roundtable specifically noted several procedural lapses bordering on breaches of international protocol in the supposed FBI attempt to wrap DCP Kyari in the Hushpuppi affair, as well as the obvious haste by the Nigeria Police authorities to strip him of his position with an immediate replacement.

“That the FBI, an acclaimed American security agency, might invariably have breached the global standard legal and diplomatic practice by neglecting to contact either the Nigerian High Commission in the US or the Nigerian authorities through the FBI liaison offices based in Nigeria before going ahead to file an indictment of a top Nigerian Security Officer.

“That the FBI might have breached another fundamental criminal justice procedure by not according Mr Kyari the benefit of being heard before going ahead with the purported indictment by an American Court in the US for an offence purportedly committed in Nigeria, triable under Nigerian laws, by Nigerian courts and on Nigerian land.

“A breach of decorum and negligence of procedure might have also occurred when the FBI hurriedly published the purported indictment online without first intimating the Nigerian authorities.

“The Roundtable also raised questions on the apparent haste with which Kyari was suspended and an immediate substantive replacement named by the Nigerian police authorities, an outright breach of Mr Kyari’s fundamental right to fair hearing by both the FBI and the Nigerian police authorities by not allowing him the benefit of being heard before the hasty actions against him.”

After 6 Years In Office, Buhari approves State House clinic’s presidential wing

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the site for the construction of the Presidential Wing of the State House Clinic.

Since assuming office in 2015, the President is usually flown abroad for medical check up and treatment.

Critics wonder why he failed to push for the construction of another State House Clinic to cater for his health issues to save the country the financial burden of frequent trips.

The Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs has visited the site of the new facility.

The Permanent Secretary, State House, Umar Tijjani, told the members that the new wing of the State House Clinic would serve the Nigerian populace.

But this is not totally expected as the centre would particularly cater for the medical needs of the President, Vice-President, members of their families and top government officials.

Tijjani said the project will be completed before the end of the Buhari administration.

Umar lamented the non release of budgetary allocation to State House in full, noting that some of the facilities had become obsolete.

Out of about N8.699billion budgeted for State House in the 2018, only about N5.083billion (58 per cent) was released, he said.

In 2019, out of N6.955billion budgeted, only about N2billion was released. However, in 2020, about N4.878 billion was appropriated and fully released.

“By the time this administration leaves office, we would have the Presidential wing of the State House Clinic in place”, NAN quoted him as saying.

“We have already started in earnest with activities that are required for the construction, we have received the necessary approvals.

”We have received no objection from the Bureau of Public Procurement. The contractor is going to come in form of a turnkey project, in order to mobilise and take over the site”, Tijani added.
