Senate Confirms Prof Adam As INEC National Commissioner
The Senate has confirmed the nomination of Prof. Sani Adam for appointment as a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to represent North Central.
Recall that the Senate had stepped down the confirmation of Professor Sani Adam because of the petitions against him.
But his confirmation on Thursday followed consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on INEC, which was presented by the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Kabiru Gaya (Kano South).
Gaya, in his report, said: “After a thorough investigation into the petition against the nominee (Adam), the Committee found out that the petition against him was paltry and that the reason for the termination (not dismissal as alleged by the petitioner) was not based on gross misconduct but on rationalisation policy of the Federal Government.
“The court judgement was based on whether or not his appointment should have been terminated and this has nothing to do with his integrity or moral uprightness.”
Society gazette reports that the Senate on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of five National Commissioners for INEC.
The nominees of President Muhammadu Buhari, who were confirmed were, Prof. Muhammad Sani Kallah (Katsina); Prof. Kunle Ajayi ( Ekiti); and Saidu Ahmad (Jigawa), Baba Bila (North East) and Abdullahi Zuru (North- West).
Citizens Should Take Ownership Of The Fight Against Drug Abuse – Marwa
The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, General Muhammad Buba Marwa, Ret’d, has advised Nigerian citizens to take ownership of the fight against drug abuse in the country.
Marwa stated this on Tuesday through the agency’s Director, Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, in an early morning conversation with the President of the National Association of Online Security Reporters, NAOSRE, Comrade Femi Oyewale.
During the brief interaction, Marwa explained the committed efforts of the agency to ensure that drug abuse in Nigeria becomes almost nonexistent.
He however emphasized that citizens must brace up and support the agency through accurate information about the activities of drug agents and their corresponding abuse.
“We need citizens’ supports to be successful. In fact, citizens should take ownership of the fight against drug abuse in the country.
“With the little resource available to us at NDLEA, we are building high-tech manpower to deal with any situation. We, therefore, urge citizens to support us with accurate information about the activities of drug agents and we will respond swiftly,” he requested.
In like manner, Marwa called on the media for more support in the agency’s campaigns against drug abuse, saying the government needs sane citizens and individuals to progress in its policies and developmental programmes.
He added that what mostly fuels criminal activities is traceable to drug-enhanced insanity.
He, therefore, called on parents to redouble efforts in their children’s proper upbringing and tasked the media with elevating the campaigns against drug abuse.
“We thank all our media partners for the huge supports. We are particularly grateful to NAOSRE for all its supports. NDLEA needs more of it because if we fail to do so, anyone could fall victim to drug provoked crimes,” he stated.
The NDLEA boss explained that at the moment, there are about 20 million Nigerians affected by drug abuse saying the agency, nonetheless, is on top of the situation.
Earlier, Oyewale Femi reaffirmed NAOSRE’s commitment to the goals of NDLEA in the struggle to stamp out drug abuse in the system.
“We are committed to your advocacy against drug abuse. NAOSRE is proud of the renewed fight against drug abuse by the new leadership of NDLEA headed by General Marwa. Be assured of our media supports,” he promised.
Oyewale maintained that the cardinal focus for the establishment of the association is to promote sustainable harmony amongst security, safety agencies and the citizens through unbiased reportage.
Nigerian Army releases 1,009 ex-Boko Haram fighters Secretly In Borno
The Nigerian military on Wednesday released 1,009 ex-Boko Haram insurgents, who had been in military custody at Giwa Barracks in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
The former terrorists were handed over to the Borno State Government in a secret ceremony that was initially billed to take place at an earlier date but was suspended indefinitely by the military authorities at the wake of the appointment of the new COAS, Punch reports
According to sources in the army, the ex-terrorists were handed over to the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, who represented the state government at the event.
The officer said, “The army handed 1,009 Boko Haram insurgents to the state government today (Wednesday). It was done in secret. We were warned not to allow journalists to the venue.”
Efforts to reach the Army Public Relations Officer, Operation Hadin Kai, Col. Ado Isa, proved abortive.
The Lagos House of Assembly on Monday called on the Governor of the state, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to increase the number of officers in the Neighbourhood Safety Corps.
The lawmakers also urged Mr. Sanwo-Olu to equip the Neighbourhood Saety Corps, the state’s security agency so that it can adequately protect the lives and property of residents.
The House further resolved that the Governor should call on the commissioner of police in the state to intensify efforts to secure the state and look at ways to inculcate the Neighbourhood watch to stem crime.
The resolutions of the lawmakers resulted from the attempt on the life of Hon. Olawale Rauf Age-Sulaiman, the state’s legislator representing Amuwo Odofin 2 on July 8, during a political rally ahead of the forthcoming local government election.
While the lawmaker escaped death, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), whose name was given as Kayode Samuel and who stood beside him, was hit and later confirmed dead.
Raising the issue as a ‘matter of urgent public importance’, Hon. Age-Sulaiman narrated how he escaped death from gunshot adding that the incident occurred in Oriade Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
“I heard some people making noise while the campaign was on and I called for calm but I didn’t know that there were some elements who came with another intention.
“We were about going out when somebody told me not to go out and two persons stood beside me and right there I heard a gunshot sound and the next person beside me shouted my leg with blood-stains,” he said adding that he escaped by the whiskers.
Commenting on the incident, Hon. Rotimi Olowo, condemned the use of thugs to settle political matters. He also urged that security in the county be given more seriousness through the establishment of state police, while supporting the equipping of the Nieghbourhood Watch to stand in.
“The commissioner of police should investigate the issue,” he said adding that politicians and other Nigerians are not safe at this period.
While Hon. Yinka Ogundimu suggested that the Governor should be called upon to protect lives and property by asking the commissioner of police to intensify efforts, his colleague, Hon Tobun Abiodun, urged people to desist from crime.
“Killing one individual can cause a family eternal sorrow,” he said as he used the opportunity to call for the establishment of state police.
“I know our government is very responsible, but we want to use this opportunity to call on the Governor again,” he said.
Hon. Adedamola Kasunmu, noted that with the increasing crime rate in the society, the call for the establishment of state police for the protection of lives cannot be over-flogged, while admonishing the government to in the meantime make do with properly equipped Neighbourhood watch.
He urged the other Houses of Assembly in the federation to start calling for state police so that the National Assembly would take it serious.
In his contribution, Hon. Setonji David said those against state police are enemies of the country.
Other lawmakers who spoke included Desmond Elliot, Kehinde Joseph, and Rotimi Abiru.
Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Wasiu Eshilokun-Sanni, who presided over the sitting on behalf of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Mudashiru Obasa, said the incident was shocking. He also commiserated with the family of the deceased.
‘We will Pull down Nigeria if Kanu dies in detention’ – IPOB Issues Fresh Threat
Society gazette Reports that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Wednesday threatened to pull down Nigeria if the Federal Government allows its leader, Nnamdi Kanu to die in the Department of State Service (DSS) custody.
In a statement issued by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the group alleged that the DSS has refused all attempts made by Kanu’s personal doctors to treat him.
The separatist leader was arrested by security agents in an unnamed country on June 27.
He is currently standing trial for alleged treason and other allied charges at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
The statement read: “Mazi Nnamdi Kanu must be released to enable him to undergo a proper medical examination having gone through the most horrendous inhumane treatment and torture at the hands of the Kenyan security agents.
“We the global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our great leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, wish to alert the world and men of good conscience about the deteriorating health condition of our leader who has been in detention at the Department of State Services (DSS) dungeon since his illegal abduction in Kenya and criminal repatriation to Nigeria.
“Every attempt by his personal physicians to gain access to him has been rebuffed by the DSS, thereby worsening his health condition.
“We are alerting the world about this anomaly to compel the Nigerian government to grant our leader’s doctors access to see him for a thorough medical examination bearing in mind the terrible torture he underwent for eight days in the hands of the Kenyan security agents.
“We wish to unequivocally state that no harm should befall our leader. We will bring down Nigeria if anything untoward happens to him. The consequences of what we will do in Nigeria can only be imagined than experienced. This is not a threat but a promise! Nigeria has been winning and dining with bandits and terrorists, but dehumanizing and killing peaceful agitators and freedom fighters.
“We urge human rights organizations, UN, AU, EU, ECOWAS, and other relevant organizations across the globe to rise in defence of justice and compel the Nigerian government and her compromised security agencies to grant our leader’s personal doctors unfettered access to him.
“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, our indefectible and courageous leader must not die in DSS custody, neither should he suffer any serious health complications, otherwise Nigeria will cease to exist.
“Our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has not committed any crime against Nigeria or Kenya government to warrant being treated as a criminal, after all a sitting President in Nigeria threatened blood of monkeys and baboons will flow in Nigeria if he was not allowed to rule Nigeria.
“Human rights organizations and men and women of good conscience across the world should not watch idly while our leader is being dehumanized by the wicked Nigeria security agents.
“Our leader’s fundamental human rights have been grossly violated by the Nigerian and Kenyan governments and continue to be violated with each passing day under the illegal custody of the DSS.”

Crisis Rocks Synagogue Days After TB Joshua’s Burial, As Leadership Rejects Wife As Successor
It appears all is not well in the Synagogue Church of All Nations, as stakeholders of the church took a U-turn and debunked the news that Mrs Evelyn will be taking over the affairs of the church after her husband.
It was earlier reported that the wife of the late founder of SCOAN has been chosen to take over the affairs of the church.
The platform noted that elders of the church met and declared Evelyn the successor to the televangelist.
This comes after late Pastor TB Joshua died on Saturday, June 5, 2021, days before his 58th birthday
However just a few days before the burial week, the stakeholders of the church debunked the news that Mrs Evelyn will be taking over the affairs of the church.
According to Dr Gary Tonge Freng, who spoke on behalf of the church, claimed no one has been appointed to lead the affairs of the church at the moment. On if there is someone in the church to take over the miracles performed by the late tele-evangelist, Freng said that the decision is a spiritual matter and not an administrative one.
“It’s not about machinery. It is about suitable people, and it’s about the move of the Holy Spirit. So there is simply no administrative answer to the question because it is not an administrative issue”, he told City People.
The decision of who will assume the role of General Overseer, according to another source will be a unanimous decision of a cabal within the church referred to as the 5 wise men.
WHO ARE THE 5 WISE MEN
The 5 wise men are the prophet’s sons who were profoundly influenced by T.B. Joshua. Those who have heard them preach or see them show God’s power can know where the grace comes from. Despite the fact that they were released by the prophet and are having an effect in their respective communities, they owe their lives to T.B Joshua and remain devoted to him.
Under T.B.’s supervision, the 5 wise men all served as pastors in SCOAN. Joshua was imprisoned for a long time; one of the Wise Men is said to have served for eight years before being released.
The wise men’s names are Wise Man Racine, Wise Man John Chi, Wise Man Harry, Wise Man Daniel, and Wise Man Christopher, in no particular sequence. Although it may be difficult, these men have a strong desire to carry on their father’s legacy and step in his footsteps.
NOBODY HAS BEEN TRAINED TO SUCCEED TB JOSHUA?
A top aide who worked closely with the late TB Joshua but instructed not to be quoted had said that everyone is confused in the church right now as nobody expected this sudden death.
“For successor, he did not train anyone to succeed him. I am not aware of any succession plan in this church. There is none of the pastors that have been trained to succeed him. I would have known if any exists.
“But to the best of my knowledge, nobody in this church has been trained to succeed him, not even the 5 wisemen” he stated.
The inside source was asked if the entire SCOAN can operate without a substantive leader, he said “Very likely. That is what is going to happen. His shoes are very large. If there has been anybody that he earmarked to succeed him, we would have long noticed it in the church here.
“The person’s activities, actions and inactions would have indicated the direction of succession. After all, I am an inner member of his caucus.
“For now, the wife has taken charge. There are instructions on what to do and how things would go. In all of this, no service is in the programme. Services have been suspended,” he disclosed.
