NNPC Quietly Approves Petrol Pump Price Hike To N179/Litre

The increase in the price of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as petrol from N165 per litre to N179 per litre has been approved by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC).
The new price approved by NNPC is expected to take effect today across the country as it directs fuel marketers to change the petrol price on pumps today.

NNPC also increased the ex-depot price from N148.17 to N167 per litre.

The decision was reached weeks after fuel marketers adopted different prices following petrol scarcity across the country.

Some filling stations had changed the price on their meter, while others left the approved retail price of N165 per litre but were selling above the displayed price.

Some filling stations were dispensing fuel for motorists for around N170 to N175 per litre.

Tinubu Visits Pastor Adeboye Over Muslim-Muslim Ticket

Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has met with the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, following the controversy trailing the Muslim-Muslim presidential preference of the ruling party

THISDAY had reported yesterday that Tinubu had set up a team of eminent persons with whom he was scheduled to meet the Christian leaders within the party and faith-based organisations like the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) and the Catholic, to appeal to them and secure their buy-in.

A source in the Tinubu Campaign team, who pleaded anonymity, informed THISDAY that the plan, which was going to be a holistic approach to the crisis, was to make the Christian community see reasons behind the Muslim-Muslim ticket, adding that Tinubu decided to lead a team to appeal to the Christian community.

But THISDAY yesterday gathered that the meeting with Adeboye was actually held on Sunday at the Redemption camp.

A reliable source, who also pleaded anonymity, told THISDAY that the meeting with Adeboye was very fruitful, adding that the clergy was not against a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Though THISDAY could not confirm those on Tinubu’s entourage to the meeting with Adeboye, it was reliably gathered that the wife of the presidential hopeful, Senator Oluremi, was there.

“He met Adeboye on Sunday. The meeting was very fruitful. He (Adeboye) is not against Muslim-Muslim ticket,” the source said.

Asked who was with Tinubu at the meeting with Adeboye, the source insisted “his wife”, stressing that Tinubu would soon meet with the leadership of CAN.

Kemi Nelson: We Have Lost A Very Bright Light, Obasa Mourns

With the passing of Chief Kemi Nelson, a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), Lagos State has lost a very bright light, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has said.

Chief Nelson, a former South-West Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), died on Sunday at the age of 66 after a brief illness.

Dr. Obasa, in a statement on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Eromosele Ebhomele, described the death of the politician as a huge loss to Lagos state, the party she served with so much passion and enthusiasm, members of the party and Nigeria.

“The shock is indescribable. It is so huge and painful, one that will be difficult to heal for a long time. Indeed, we lost a very bright light that had always brought the desired radiance to our party.

“Chief Kemi Nelson was a coordinator of women and she carried out her tasks with so much ease, enthusiasm and effectiveness to the admiration of everyone of us.

“She never hid her passion for a better Lagos and Nigeria through democratic governance. She was dilligent and excelled in every position or committee she found herself.

“While I, like many others she held in high esteem, will personally miss her, I pray that God would strengthen every member of her family, her friends, associates, those she mentored, the GAC and our party,” Obasa prayed.

Chief Kemi Nelson, former Executive Director of Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) and influential politician, was a senatorial candidate in 1992. She lost the election to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, now presidential candidate of the APC ahead of the 2023 election.

My Heart Cries For Nigeria Says Prophet Joshua Iginla As He Speaks On Tinubu’s Choice Of Shettima As Running Mate, kuje Prison ( Video)

My Heart Cries For Nigeria Says Prophet Joshua Iginla As He Speaks On Tinubu’s Choice Of Shettima As Running Mate, kuje Prison ( Video)

The General Overseer of the Champions Royal Assembly, Prophet Joshua Iginla has taken shared his view on the trending Muslim-Muslim APC ticket after Chief Bola Tinubu opted for the former Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, as his running mate for the 2023 presidency. The prophet also went further to plead with Nigerian leaders to fix the country.

According to Prophet Joshua Iginla, he wondered why APC would be so insensitive by going for a muslim-Muslim ticket. “I asked myself, in a country like Nigeria with too much strong religious beliefs, why will the ruling party go for a Muslim-Muslim ticket? Why will their presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, go with that view? I asked myself again, if we don’t know, we are sounding the drum of war in a place where there is unity, peace and understanding despite our differences. Nigeria is a country for all and does not belong to a particular set of religion. It has never happened before in this country. Why now?

“If we must make Nigeria great, we must allow equity, justice and sensitivity to be the watch of the day for our leaders. I am pleading in my heart, this was not the Nigeria I was born to. This was not the Nigeria that our great heroes fought for. What is going on? Our leaders, please save us because the Muslim-Muslim ticket is a sign of war”.

Meanwhile, the prophet also touched the issue of insecurity when he commented on Kuje prison break. He said the Nigerian military is among the best in Africa but wonder why the country could not replicate that standard in her nation. He further said the security bodies should wake up.

Speaking on Kuje Prison attack and a message to Nigerian leaders, the prophet said, “Kuje prison break is the one that left me speechless. Why? It happened in a country with the highest ranking military capacities in Africa. Sometimes I ask, is it not the same military that fought wars in Africa and came out victorious? The Giant of Africa has now become the sleeping brother of Africa. In the history of this country, we have never experienced such a thing before.

“It is because of insensitivity of our leaders that insecurity increased in this nation. If they are conscious of things to happen, they will take a step to remedy the issue. In Nigeria, before anything happens, the signs are clear if only our leaders can be more sensitive to detect them on time.

“Finally, this is my message to our leaders. I am sorry to say this, many of our elected leaders don’t feel the pains of the masses. Please in the name of whatever you hold dear, fix this county. This was not the Nigeria my parents told me about”.

Prophet Joshua Iginla started by saying, “As a pastor, my phone rings everyday. What are they asking for? They are looking for food to eat. Today, a Dollar is about N600. Today, our diesel is up to N800 per litre. Today, there is insecurity everywhere that many are gradually moving to arming themselves. We are afraid to be in church; we have become the security of ourselves after the Owo massacre. If the church can be attacked, no one is safe again”.

NDLEA had alleged that Kyari and his men unlawfully tampered with 21.25kilograms worth of cocaine that they seized from two apprehended drug traffickers- Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwane, accusing the DCP and his men of dealing in cocaine worth 17.55kg.

It alleged that the police officers committed the offence between January 19 and 25, 2022, at the office of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) IRT, Abuja, in connivance with one ASP John Umoru (now at large), contrary to section 14(b) of the NDLEA Act, CAP N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

Kyari, who has maintained his innocence, is asking the court to grant him bail based on safety grounds.

Justice Emeka Nwite has fixed Wednesday, July 20th, to hear the bail application.

Also, three other police officers in Kyari’s team who are equally on trial over the alleged offences – ACP Sunday J. Ubia, Insp. Simon Agirigba and Insp. John Nuhu – asked the court to grant them bail on similar grounds.

However, the 3rd defendant, Bawa James, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, did not join them in the application.

Kyari’s counsel, Ikpeazu, said his client’s new application became necessary, considering the nature of assignments he undertook while performing his duties as a police officer, Daily Sun reports.

Ikpeazu submitted that some of the inmates on remand at the Kuje Correctional Centre were people Kyari’s team at the Police IRT made their arrest possible.

Reacting, the NDLEA, through its counsel, Sunday Joseph, urged the court to refuse their new request for bail.

Outrage as Notorious Bandit Bags Traditional Title In Zamfara

THE Emir of Yandoto in Zamfara State, Alhaji Garba Marafa, has conferred the traditional title of Sarki Fulani to one of the most notorious bandits operating in Zamfara and Katsina states.

It was gathered that the emir conferred the traditional title on the bandit, Ada Aleru, on Saturday afternoon.

According to reports, the emirate decided to give the bandit the traditional title because he recently had shown his willingness to embrace peace in the emirate.

A source, who pleaded anonymity, said, “Aleru was in the forefront of the recent peace efforts in the two emirates of Yandoto and Tsafe.”

Sunday Tribune source also revealed that stakeholders and elders recently met with the bandit leader for a peace deal.

“At the end of the meeting, he (Aleru) agreed to stop attacking the communities and villages in the emirate. He has also agreed to allow people to farm,” said the source.

Thus, on their part, the emirate unanimously decided to confer the title on him with the belief that, as a prominent person in the emirate, he would help in bringing lasting peace in the communities.

Investigation by the Sunday Tribune revealed that a letter to that effect was conveyed to him and 15th July, 2022 was slated for the coronation.

Police Recover Human Skull, Grenade Launcher, Bombs In Anambra

The Anambra Police Command, Friday, recovered a human skull, one locally-made rocket propelled granade RPG launcher, two (RPG) bombs, one single- barrel gun, empty chain of bullet, one Toyota Sienna and one Mercedes Benz jeep from criminals at Amukabia, Achalla, Awka South LGA.

Other items recovered from the suspected criminals are two cylinders, hard drugs, a police beret and a police belt.

DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the command’s public relations officer, stated this in a statement made available to newsmen in Awka on Saturday.

According to the statement, “The recovery followed a counter-offensive operation launched against criminal elements who had on 15/7/2022 laid an ambush against a six-man police team and a civilian car-tracker who were on a recovery operation of a Toyota Sienna Space Wagon vehicle earlier snatched on gun point on 9/7/2022 at Oye-Agu Abagana.

“Four of the police operatives escaped the ambush, while two of the police operatives and the car-tracker were captured by the criminals.”

DSP Ikenga said the police operatives, during the operations, neutralized some of the armed men and destroyed three of their camps.

He added that, “Unfortunately, some of the hoodlums escaped with bullet wounds, having already murdered their captives and set their bodies ablaze.

“The remains of the two murdered police officers and the civilian tracker have been recovered and deposited in a morgue, while police operations are still ongoing in the area to track the fleeing gang members.”

Meanwhile, the state commissioner of police, CP Echeng Echeng, while condoling with the families and friends of the murdered civilian (car-tracker) and the police operatives, described the incident as a classic example of the risk and sacrifices the police ‘are exposed to in protecting the country’.

He assured Ndi Anambra that efforts were being intensified ‘towards total reclamation and domination of all the public spaces occupied by hoodlums in the state’.

Alleged Fraud: Naira Marley Lands in trouble As EFCC Presents More Evidence Against Him

The alleged fraud case involving Nigerian singer, Azeez Fashola popularly called Naira Marley resumed on Friday 15th July, with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) presenting more evidence against him.
Naira Marley who appeared before Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, is standing trial on an 11-count charge bordering on credit card fraud brought against him by the anti-graft agency.

At the last court sitting on June 9, 2022, the defence counsel, Olalekan Ojo, objected to the witness’s opinion on the forensic evidence linking the defendant to credit card fraud.

He had argued that only the court could make pronouncements on the defendant’s culpability, not an investigator.

Dismissing the objection, Justice Oweibo said an investigator must be able to link the defendant to the commission of the crime.

He said: “It is the duty of the law enforcement agency or police, charging a person to court to investigate if the defendant committed the crime or not.

“The investigator must be able to link the defendant to the commission of the crime. The prosecutor must have made up his mind as to the involvement of the defendant before bringing the case to court. I do not agree that the prosecution has declared the defendant guilty.”

The judge thereafter adjourned the trial till September 26
