Osun Poll: Gov Oyetola Fails To Congratulate Adeleke, Says APC Will ‘Respond Appropriately’

 

Osun State Governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Adegboyega Oyetola, has refused to congratulate winner of the Osun Governorship Election, Senator Ademola Adeleke of the People’s Democratic Party.

Instead, he has asked his supporters to remain calm and not resort to violence.

The governor said this in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ismail Omipidan, on Sunday after the candidate of the PDP defeated him in the poll held on Saturday.

The statement read, “The governor also called the people of the state to go about their businesses without let or hindrance.

” He has taken cognisance of the results of the governorship election in the state as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Sunday.

“He, however, noted that the party would be responding appropriately after studying the results and consulting with critical stakeholders of the party.

“The governor also called on security operatives to ensure maintenance of law and order. He, has therefore, directed security operatives to take adequate charge so as to prevent break down of law and order.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared the Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ademola Adeleke winner of the Osun State Governorship election.
Adeleke defeated the incumbent governor of the state and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Gboyega Oyetola and thirteen other candidates in the July 16th election.

The PDP governorship candidate was declared the winner at the head office of INEC in Osogbo, the state capital which was used as the collation centre.

Adeleke won 17 local government areas in the state, while the candidate of the APC, Oyetola won the remaining 13 local government areas in the state.

The incumbent governor of the state who was defeated in the election gathered 375,027 votes, while Adeleke polled 403,371 votes to win the election.

The INEC returning officer for the Osun State Governorship election, Prof Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe gave the declaration in the early hours of Sunday.

Jimi Agbaje Speaks On Joining APC To Back Tinubu¡¯s Presidential Ambition

 

A former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Jimi Agbaje, has denied joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Naija News reports that some posts on social media had claimed that Agbaje had left the PDP for the APC to back the ruling party¡¯s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.

Reacting in a chat with The PUNCH on Wednesday, Agbaje denied leaving the opposition party.

Asked if he had defected, Agbaje replied, ¡°Definitely not. No truth to the story.¡±

 

Recall that an aide to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Joe Igbokwe, had hinted that Agbaje may have returned to the APC.

Igbokwe, in a post shared on Facebook on Wednesday, had said that information getting to him indicates that the former governorship candidate of the PDP in Lagos state had joined the ruling party.

He wrote: ¡°I hear Jimi Agbaje is back in APC to support Asiwaju BAT. Please let someone help verify this.¡±

In a post that also went viral on various social media platforms, Jimi Agbaje was alleged to have called on youths to embrace APC in the country.

Titled ¡®Awalokan 2023,¡¯ a text shared along with the picture read, ¡°I¡¯m fully back in APC to join our South-West leaders as well as progressive Family and friends in Lagos State.

¡°The Awalokan 2023 is a project that both young and old in all the nooks and crannies of the Southwest should be embraced.

¡°On this note, I sincerely join APC from the major opposition party to add my strength.

¡°I believe It¡¯s time to support and also appreciate Senator Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the forthcoming Presidential election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.¡±

 

Davido Visits Osun To Rally Support For PDP Governorship Candidate (VIDEO)

 

Award-winning superstar, David Adeleke popularly known as Davido has visited Osun state to rally support for his uncle, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

Adeleke is the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for Saturday’s governorship election.

In a video shared online, the DMW boss is seen touring the state in a carnival-like manner while receiving cheers and applause from supporters.

Davido’s visit comes a day before the PDP mega rally in the state to drum support for Adeleke. Atiku Abubakar, PDP presidential candidate, and state governors elected under the party’s platform are expected to be in attendance.

In a related development, popular singer Portable has declared support for Gboyega Oyetola, governorship candidate of the All-Progressives Congress (APC).

The Zazu crooner in a video posted on his Instagram page on Wednesday urged his fans in Osun to vote for the governor, who was sitting beside him.

Despite the presence of other candidates, the Osun governorship election is expected to be a two-horse race between the current governor, Gboyega Oyetola of the ruling APC, and Senator Ademola Adeleke of the PDP.

Coincidentally, both men battled it out in 2018 with Oyetola narrowly emerging victorious after a controversial re-run.

Breaking: Funke Akindele Confirmed As PDP Governorship Running Mate In Lagos

 

Nollywood star, Funke Akindele also known as Jenifa has been confirmed as the 2023 deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Lagos governorship race.
Her candidacy was confirmed on Tuesday by the Lagos governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Dr. Olajide Adediran aka Jandor in a sponsored advert.

Naija News understands Akindele defeated other aspirants including former Governorship aspirant Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour; former Senatorial candidate for Lagos East, Yeye Shobajo, another governorship aspirant, David Kolawole Vaughan known as Dakova and Engr. Teslim Balogun to clinch the slot.

It is understood that the decision was reached based on the fact that Funke Akindlele is from Ikorodu and Lagos East Senatorial District like the incumbent Deputy Governor and would be able to use her popularity to pull votes for the PDP.

 

 

 

Confirming the development, Akindele also posted a video on her verified Instagram page where she disclosed why she accepted the role.

“I saw it as an opportunity to help liberate and improve the wellbeing of our people, particularly the deprived youth, women and the girl child.

“My decision is not just to accept this huge responsibility but to also work tirelessly and complement Jandor’s burning desire to see our dear Lagos live up to its full potential,” she said.

Akindele will be officially unveiled as running mate to Jandor in Ikorodu later today.

The event is scheduled to hold at the residence of the apex leader of Lagos4Lagos Movement, late Mrs Adenrele Ogunsanya, Ikorodu, by 11 am.

Osun: Osinbajo, Tinubu, Others Storm Osogbo For APC Mega Rally

 

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, are currently in Osogbo, the Osun State capital for the mega rally of the ruling party ahead of Saturday¡¯s governorship election.

APC governors and other party leaders are in the state to campaign for Governor Gboyega Oyetola¡¯s reelection.

The rally is scheduled to hold at the Osogbo Township Stadium.

In a statement on Monday, the Grand Rally Reception Planning Committee, Funke Egbemode, said the rally was not just a gathering of party faithful, but also of lovers of democracy and good governance.

 

The statement reads in part: ¡°Leaders and chieftains of the APC, including the Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, members of the central working committee, national campaign council, APC governors and other national and regional structures of the party are expected at the rally in support of Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, the party¡¯s candidate in the Osun governorship election.

¡°We trust that members of the APC will show the formidable strength and decorum the party is known for, even as we implore all residents and citizens of Osun to come out en-masse and in public acclamation of their overwhelming support for the APC candidate.¡±

Oyetola will on Saturday battle Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party and Hon. Yusuf Lasun of Labour Party and others in the election.

 

Tinubu Arrives Buhari’s Hometown, Officially Confirms Shettima As Running Mate 

 

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu confirmed former Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2023 election.
A source had confidentially confirmed to Vanguard earlier that Tinubu ahead of the Friday deadline by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Tinubu resolved to pick Senator Shettima to run a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Naija News reports that Tinubu had earlier submitted the name of Alhaji Kabiru Masari to INEC as a placeholder. There has been pressure since then on the former governor of Lagos State to consider picking a Christian as his running mate.

Speculations, however, ended on Sunday (today) after Tinubu arrived in Daura, Katsina State to pay homage to President Muhammadu Buhari.

 

Tinubu while briefing the press upon his arrival, said Masari has agreed to step down and Shettima is now confirmed as his standard-running-mate.

2023: More trouble for PDP as Sanwo-Olu, Akeredolu, Fayemi, Other APC Leaders Visit Wike in rivers[Video]

 

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, and other chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday paid a visit to Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State was among the APC leaders that visited the governor, with former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose also present.

The APC leaders met with Wike at the private residence of the Rivers State governor in Port Harcourt.

 

The details of the closed-door meeting are not yet known, but it may not be unconnected with the 2023 presidential election.

Wike and his allies have been at loggerheads with the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the decision to pick Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as the running mate of the party¡¯s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Following that decision, Wike and his loyalists, which include Governor Samuel Ortom, Governor Seyi Makinde, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Senator Jonah Jang, and others, have called for the resignation of the PDP national chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.

2023: Jandor Speaks On Picking Funke Akindele As Running Mate

 

The Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate in Lagos State, Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor has debunked the report-making round that he has picked Nigerian actress, Funke Akindele as his running mate.
Jandor cleared the air on Wednesday evening following the report that he had selected the actress as his Deputy ahead of the 2023 governorship election.

The PDP governorship candidate in an interview with Vanguard on the trending report said, “I haven’t chosen nor announced Funke Akindele as my running mate.

“However, that stage will come in due course when an official public announcement will be made.”

 

It was earlier reported that Akindele was considered the Deputy Governorship candidate of the PDP in Lagos State.

Gbenga Ogunleye, the media aide to the governorship candidate confirmed that Akindele was nominated alongside four others whom he listed as Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, Kolawole Vaughan, Adenike Shobajo and [Rasheed] Teslim-Balogun.

He said, “she was nominated alongside four other people, whose names are Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, Kolawole Vaughan, Adenike Shobajo and [Rasheed] Teslim-Balogun. Jandor has not named anyone as his running mate yet.”

The Lagos State governorship election is scheduled for March 11, 2023, with PDP hoping to win the state.

Nollywood actress and content creator, Funke Akindele has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deputy governorship candidate in Lagos State.
The Jenifa Diary crooner was favoured after she was listed among five names released as the potential running mates of the party¡¯s governorship candidate, Abdulaziz Olajide Adediran popularly known as Jandor.

A short video clip that emerged online captured the moment some members of PDP were jubilating and congratulating Funke.

Sources close to the party¡¯s Governorship Candidate in the state, Dr Abdul Azeez Olajide Adediran, and the leadership of the party in the state, confirmed the development.

 

 

 

 

According to Daily Trust, the running mate would be unveiled at a soon to be held event.

Recall that five names were shortlisted for the position.

They included Ms Akindele; former governorship aspirant, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour; former Senatorial candidate for Lagos East, Yeye Shobajo, another governorship aspirant, David Kolawole Vaughan known as DAKOVA and Engr. Teslim Balogun.

The latest development is coming a few days after her husband, JJC Skillz announced the crash of their seven years old marriage.
