BREAKING: INEC Extends Voting In Anambra Governorship Over Malfunctioning Devices

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended voting in the ongoing Anambra governorship election for one hour.

The Anambra Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Nwachukwu Orji, announced the extension in a press statement.

According to Orji, voting has been extended from 3 pm to 4 pm following reports of malfunctioning Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) – the device being used for accreditation of voters.

“The extension of time arose out of several field reports that voters have had problems with accreditation,” Orji said.

“The commission is currently investigating the reason the accreditation devices, Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) have worked perfectly in some polling units but not in others, in some of the cases.

“It will seem that this resulted from software glitches. Our technicians have already built an update to the device software to prevent further challenges. The update is currently being installed in the concerned BVAS, and we request voters, candidates and agents to be patient and allow our technical staff to solve the problem,” he said.

It was earlier reported that electorates, including the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chukwuma Soludo, had challenges casting their votes due to technical glitches.

How Photo Of Tinubu Seating On A Chair During Jumat Prayer May Cause Setback On His 2023 Presidential Ambition

Yesterday, Nigerians were treated to a viral photo of a former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu seated during a Friday’s Jumat prayer session in an unnamed mosque. The photos had surfaced on the internet after the Jumat Prayers of Friday, 5th November 2021, with the photos generating mixed reactions from many Nigerians.

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress only returned to the country from London a few weeks ago following an extended stay in the United Kingdom where he reportedly underwent certain medical procedures. With the rumoured presidential ambition of the Jagaban of Borgu, his photo seated while the Friday’s Jumat prayers were going on sent tongues wagging.

According to Islamic principles, a person may be permitted to seat on a chair during a prayer session if the person is elderly or has a health challenge. Nigerian President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari has also been pictured in the past, seating on a chair during a prayer session, due to health issues, which raises further questions about the fitness of the Jagaban of Borgu.

With many of his support groups and supporters increasing their voices for a Tinubu presidency in 2023, the photo which surfaced yesterday may represent a sort of setback to the All Progressives Congress chieftain. Will the photo have any effects on his presidential ambition? It is hard to say due to how unpredictable the Nigerian political space can sometimes be.

However, this writer believes that one major implication the photo could have on the presidential ambition of Asiwaju Tinubu is that it could make him lose certain voters. This is particularly talking about voters who are not only concerned about the track record of their next president but also the health and fitness of the individual, due to the rigorous nature of the job of a Nigerian President.

Many critics of Asiwaju have often pointed at his age and health issues as one of the reasons why he may not be able to handle the rigours of the Nigerian Presidency, and this has often divided opinions among Nigerians. The photos which appeared online yesterday would have done little to allay the fears of many people who are still undecided about the health and fitness of the former Lagos Governor.

2023 is still a long time away and a year is a long time in politics but anything that might show that Asiwaju is vulnerable would be capitalised upon by his detractors and political opponents. A photo like that of yesterday may be used by his political foes to score cheap political points against him and sway the minds of many who are yet undecided about him.

Buhari Is Not As Powerful As You Think He Is – Fashola

The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola has revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari is not as powerful as he is made out to be.
The minister made the claim at a Yoruba Tennis Club’s Landmark public lecture.

He stated that some people have often said that the president of the country is very powerful even more than America’s president, revealing that the claim is absolutely not true.

According to the former Lagos governor, the president have limited powers which are subjected to the national Assembly.

He advised Nigerians to get acquainted with the 1999 constitution so they would really understand the limitations to the president’s capability.

He said: “Very often, I hear a general statement that the president of Nigeria is very powerful. Some people say he is more powerful than the President of the United States of America.

“I want a better life and I am sure we all do. I want to say that there is always a flip side to the powers of the president.

“I urge all of us to get a copy of the 1999 Constitution; we can find them online and just read to acquaint yourself, and read one page or two pages a day; perhaps it will help us understand why things are where they are and what can be done.

“This will help us to contextualise some of the over-generalised statements that we have made because they are not reality. So, these powers are not powers running all over the place.

“It seems to me that for a long time we have lived in anticipation that once the president comes, all our lives will be better.

“The heart of matter is why do Nigerians place their hopes and expectations for a better life on their president rather than on their governors and their local government chairmen?

“The answer lies in the level of our interactions with our Constitution. We are not fully and sufficiently familiar with our Constitution and roles that each of these offices is expected play.

“It seems to me that we have expected the right things from the wrong places. That is why I frame the question: what can the president do for me?’

“What we really have in our country instead of an all-powerful president is a political arrangement of shared powers and responsibilities, and in some cases it is just difficult to cross the line.

“It is actually something we are involved in. It seems to me it is the people of Nigeria rather than one man, the president, who truly have powers and responsibilities over our affairs.’’

How Tinubu Worked His Way Up To Success From A Taxi Driver To Become One Of The Most Powerful Nigerian Politician

How Tinubu Worked His Way Up To Success From A Taxi Driver To Become One Of The Most Powerful Nigerian Politician

Many Nigerians believe that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the former Lagos state governor, was born with a silver spoon and therefore always had everything he needed as a young man at his disposal. This was an assumption which was not totally true.

The great Nigerian politician, Tinubu, worked his way up to be successful, just like any ordinary young and promising Nigerian. He even climbed the political ladder through hard work and dedication.

Today we shall be looking at the grass-to-grass story of Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu as a young man who was once a taxi driver on the street but rose to the level of a political figure that can not be looked down upon in Nigeria at the present time.

Tinubu’s mother sold her trinkets and joined the proceeds with the money generated from the sale of the Volkswagen Beetle car given to him by his uncle to raise money for travelling.

When Tinubu was in the United States of America, he engaged in several forms of menial work to keep body and soul together and to sponsor his tertiary education. The great politician got involved in the taxi business by getting an unregistered used car which he ran as a taxi, taking passengers from the airport to their destination.

Tinubu, like every other taxi driver, faced challenges on the job, such as being slapped by a Navy officer for overcharging him because back then there was no GPRS to locate the direction and measure the accurate fees to collect. The politician has also carried a drunk man who failed to pay his fees after getting to his destination.

Tinubu did other menial jobs apart from cab driving throughout his schooling abroad and focus on his education till he graduated, and he returned to Nigeria in 1983 where he joined Mobil Oil and rose to the position of an executive of the company before his retirement.

The APC chieftain began his political career in 1992, when he joined the Social Democratic Party, SDP. This was where he gradually developed himself politically till he became a two-term governor of Lagos State and one of the most powerful politicians in Nigeria to this day.

This is a lesson for all youths to note that not everyone who is currently successful was born into a rich family. Many strive to become successful in life. People don’t know you when you are poor. The moment fortune smiles on you, people begin to recognize you.

IPOB Claims APC Wants To Use Prisoners To Rig Anambra Guber

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has accused the All Progressive Congress (APC) of planning to manipulate the November 6 Anambra gubernatorial election.

The proscribed separatist group alleged that the APC has gone to correctional facilities in the South East region to get inmates and also import non-residents into the state to vote in the forthcoming election.

The group did not provide any evidence to back its claim.

Speaking through its spokesman, Emma Powerful, IPOB alleged that APC’s primary aim is to impose a governor on the people of Anambra.

Emma called on “….the United Nations Human Rights Commission, US government; British government; Israeli government; German government; Canadian government; Russian government; Amnesty International; civil society groups in the world and all relevant and reputable human rights organizations to monitor what the APC and the government of Nigeria are doing in Biafra land, especially in Imo and Anambra States.

“We want to raise this alarm to put Ndi Anambra in particular, Ndigbo and the world in general, out of the wicked plot by the APC-led Federal Government of Nigeria to rob them of their rights to choose a leader of their choice. They want to impose another puppet in Anambra State, as they did in Imo State.

“The APC has changed election norms in the history of Nigeria. We want politicians in Anambra State to be wary of what APC is doing to them, so they can resist them.”

Governor Abdulrazaq Narrates How Tinubu, Lai Mohammed Allegedly Rigged Party Elections

The Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has narrated how the former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed manipulated election results as far back as 2011 under the old Action Congress of Nigeria.

Abdulrazaq in an interview with newsmen noted that Mohammed was in charge of ACN in Kwara and he threw him out because they had their choice candidates.

He further stated that he experienced a tough time in the Peoples Democratic Party because of the dominance of former Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

The Kwara State Governor said, “When this republic started, everybody was with Saraki in the All Nigeria’s People Party. Just a few of us were in PDP then. We launched the party, very few of us. We knew our goal, to remain in opposition and remove these people from power. That’s our goal from then up till now.

“Along the way, they started pulling out because most of them saw that they had a glass ceiling on the Saraki side. They started pulling out. We started in 1998. Where was Lai Mohammed in 1998? He was in Lagos.

“He came in 2003 to contest and went back. The other guy that was shouting was with Saraki. We remained here deliberately. We did not ask for anybody’s structure.

“We had people like Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, as well. He was with us. He was the first Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP. He has never been with Saraki. There were less than 10 of us. We deliberately continued to build our structure. In 2015, when Saraki moved to PDP, we left because we will not be part of it. We left the party for them. I moved out.

“I never contested for office, I was sponsoring candidates and building a party. I was even offered the position of Board of Trustees of the party. I refused. I said I have my business.

“Our goal was to change the system in the state. It was not until 2011 that we found ourselves in the ACN, but then ACN belonged to Asiwaju and Lai Mohammed was his frontman here. So, they had their candidate.

“We said let’s do free and fair primaries, they refused. Eventually, they threw us out and picked their own candidate.”

“The delegates were playing games so I stepped down to contest for Senate. I contested against Saraki. I believe they rigged the election.

“Many times, I have engaged with the traditional rulers, especially to say, let’s be accommodating, it will soon pass,” the governor said.
