The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has linked a seizure of large consignment of Tramadol, an illegal drug, in Lagos to the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari.
It was gathered that the former head of the IGP Intelligence Response Team( IRT) and his team failed to report the issue to the NDLEA.
This is coming at a time Kyari was linked to a drug ring operating the Brazil–Ethiopia-Nigeria route.
According to Vanguard, sources close to NDLEA disclosed that the Kyari team had been linked to the alleged seizure of a large consignment of Tramadol in a warehouse at the Amuwo-Odofin area of Lagos.
The source disclosed that the consignment of Tramadol was worth ₦3billion and it was imported into the country by a pharmacist.
A further report revealed that the Kyari team heard about the consignment and invaded the warehouse where the drug was stocked.
The sources disclosed that the NDLEA was not informed about the drug which was seized last year.
One of the sources said, “What this means is that the IRT may have sold the consignment of Tramadol to a cartel after storming the Amuwo Odofin warehouse and seizing the Tramadol.
“We have launched a probe into the case to get to the root of the matter.”
The Governor of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola on Saturday defeated the anointed candidate of the minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, Moshood Adeoti, to emerge winner of the All Progressives Congress election in the state.
The ruling party declared Oyetola as its candidate in the forthcoming election in the state.
It was earlier reported that three aspirants contested in the electoral process alongside the state Governor.
The aspirants included former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuff and a former Secretary to the State Government, Moshood Adeoti.
The APC Primary Election Committee led by the Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq while announcing the result in the early hours of Sunday at the State’s APC secretariat in Osogbo, noted that 247,207 voters were accredited, while the total votes cast was 235,550.
The incumbent governor of the state defeated the candidate of the former Governor of the state with a wide margin of 222,169 votes to 12921, while Lasun polled 460 votes.
The chairman of the state chapter of the party, Gboyega Famodun while speaking lauded the Primary Election Committee for conducting credible polls.
The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has described the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Osun State as a sham.
The ruling party held its primary election with Governor Gboyega Oyetola reportedly leading at the polls.
Moshood Adeoti, a former Secretary to the State Government, is backed by Aregbesola to get the party’s ticket.
Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuf, is also contesting for the ticket.
Reacting in a statement by his media adviser, Sola Fasure, on Saturday evening, Aregbesola listed some shortcomings of the election.
While disclosing that he would take legal steps to address the issues, the former Osun Governor urged his supporters to remain calm.
He accused the organisers of removing his supporters name from the list, adding that more reports are being collected from members of his factions across the state.
The statement reads: “On behalf of the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, I will like to thank you most sincerely for heeding the call earlier this morning to participate in our party’s governorship primary and conduct yourselves most peacefully. You adopted a non-violent posture, even in the face of sore provocation.
“You have demonstrated your loyalty to the party and democratic ideals. You have comported yourselves as Omoluabi in the true essence.
“We have received and continue to receive the reports of the shenanigans of the officials who conducted the sham of an election. We have been inundated with reports state-wide of how your names were expunged from the party’s voters register, which was not made available until this morning, contrary to the convention of making the list available to the candidates before the election.
“We have heard of how party registration cards were being hawked this morning to the supporters of the state governor.
“We have also received reports of how accreditation was not done at all in many wards and how people without party identification just participated and queued behind the governor in many polling units.
“We have received the report from our members and independent observers, how government officials and notable supporters of the governor officiated in the election, how votes were farcically counted in favour of the governor and how the votes recorded for him were more than the number of voters accredited ab initio in many units.
“We have heard of the absence of result sheets and other vital documents for recording results and vital data. We note also the absence of INEC officials in most wards, casting serious doubt on the credibility of the election.
“We note with shame and much regret the consternation of local and international observers on what they regard as a travesty of an election.
“I will urge you to maintain your cool and calm. Be not downcast, be not agitated. Hold your head high. We are still receiving and studying all these reports and will take a definitive position on them.
“You are urged not to take laws into your hands. Please leave the rest to the Almighty God and let us explore all peaceful and legal means for addressing the matter in order to obtain justice.
“Please remain committed to peace and the rule of law. Be unflinching in your commitment to the democratic ideals. Democracy is for the long haul. As you all know, we never tire and we never give up on the cause we believe in. Be rest assured that victory is ours.”
Joe Igbokwe, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Saturday pledged his unalloyed loyalty to Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the ruling party.
According to Igbokwe, Tinubu “made me”.
Igbokwe, Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on drainage and water resources, hailed the 2023 presidential aspirant as the colossus of Lagos politics.
“Nobody ever passes through Asiwaju BAT’S leadership trainings and ever remains the same again. I have been a lucky man. I am a living witness. Asiwaju made me. I am a proud product of ASIWAJU’S University of BOURDILON. I am not an ingrate, I am not a foolish entity, I am not a betrayer, I have conscience. Tinubu has gone on to play an important role in the present administration of Muhammadu Buhari, supporting government policies and holding onto the internal party reins, in lieu of his long-held presidential aspiration. In 2019, he supported Buhari’s re-election campaign defeating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar.
The Adamawa state government has announced the banning of the sale and interstate transportation of livestock.
The Secretary to the State Government, Bashir Ahmad, in a statement revealed that the reason the state took such a decision was due to the amount of levy placed on the livestock.
He went ahead to state that Lagos collects about N35,000 levy on a cattle and maintained that such high levy affects the amount of revenue generated per head of cattle.
Ahmad said that since they were solely responsible for rearing the cattle they would therefore harness the revenue made from it to improve the economy of the state.
According to him: “What we generate as revenue per head of cattle is low compared to what’s been collected along the road to the point of sale”
“People take cattle from Mubi market here, move it to Lagos, along the road they pay nothing less than N5000 per head in like, five revenue collection points.
“We concluded that as long as this thing starts from us, then we should be able to acrue revenue just as others are doing.
“As we’ve seen how much revenue is generated outside the state from our cattle, we decided to harness it to improve our economy.
“To achieve that from now, we will work on value-chain of the cattle by moving it from the market to an abattoir within the state, slaughter it, process it by separating the bones, the horns and we’ll package the beef for shipment to markets in Lagos and other states.”
The Executive Director and Group Chief Finance Officer of Oando Plc, Olufemi Adeyemo, has resigned his appointment from the company and the board, the company has announced.
Adeyemo’s resignation is coming in the heat of the company’s participation in the importation of off-spec methanol blended fuel into the Nigerian market.
The company was one of the suppliers that imported the methanol blended petrol through four Premium Motor Spirit cargoes under its Direct Sales Direct Purchase arrangement.
The four companies that supplied the methanol blended petrol are MRS which made the importation through a vessel named MT Bow Pioneer, Emadeb/Hyde/AY Maikifi/Brittania-U Consortium through vessel identified as MT Tom Hilde, Oando through a vessel named MT Elka Apollon, and Duke Oil.
But the company had denied participation in the importation of the off-spec petrol until the revelation made by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd.
“Adeyemo played a major role in the growth and success of the Oando Group. He was pivotal in the execution of several notable accomplishments, including but not limited to; the 2014 landmark acquisition of ConocoPhillips Nigerian assets, the 2015 Rights Issue, and various restructuring programs within the Group,” the company said of the former staff who joined back in October 2005.
The ex- director’s resignation became effective February 18, 2022 and he has been replaced by Mr. Adeola Ogunsem.
Ogunsem was the company’s Chief Financial Officer of Oando’s upstream division, Oando Energy Resources as he joined the company on January 01, 2012.
The company said the new CFO has over 20 years of experience in the oil and gas industry.
Oando also expressed optimism that Ogunsem would make a positive contribution to the oil company.
President Muhammadu Buhari and his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, on Saturday graced the birthday celebrations of former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim.
Anyim’s 61st birthday celebration was held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
Buhari, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, was accompanied by aides and other government officials.
Also at the event are former Vice President, Namadi Sambo, former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara and ex-Sokoto state state governor, Attahiru Bafarawa, among others.
Speaking at the event, Jonathan described Anyim as a humble man who did well to serve Nigeria creditably when he was Senate President and SGF.
The former president also stated that Anyim can do better “if given the opportunity” having done well in previous positions.
This newspaper reports that Anyim has declared his intention to contest for the presidency in 2023 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Aphrodisiac seller Hauwa Saidu popularly known as Jaruma has once again challenged Regina Daniels after she was remanded in prison for some days.
Recall that Naija News earlier reported that Regina’s billionaire husband Ned Nwoko had filed a petition against Jaruma, accusing her of peddling fake news against him and his wife on her Instagram page.
The s3x therapist was arraigned before an Abuja high court on charges bordering on defamation of character, false news publication and intimidation.
Police Prosecutor, E. A Inegbenoise, informed the court that Nwoko had written a petition through his lawyer to the FCT command for proper investigation into the matter.
The judge, Justice Ismailia Abdullahi ordered that the defendant be remanded in Suleja Correctional Centre pending the bail hearing on Friday January 28. He then proceeded to adjourn the case to February 23, 2021 for trial. She was later granted bail and released.
However, it does not seem that Jaruma was intimidated by Nwoko’s law suit and has once again called out Regina Daniels on Instagram for not honoring their N10m contract.
The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola has opened up and revealed more details about the ongoing fight between him and the incumbent Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola.
According to the Minister, Oyetola is on a vengeance mission because he (Aregesola) didn’t support his gubernatorial political ambition in 2018.
Aregbesola revealed further that when he noticed Gov.Oyetola was hell-bent on destroying his legacies in Osun State as a former Governor, he sent people to him and continued begging for two years but all his pleas fell on deaf ears.
The Minister made the revelation while speaking on Friday during a political meeting with supporters and stakeholders at Isale Abata in Ikire, Osun State.
“I begged Oyetola for two years. I sent people to help me beg him that he should not destroy my legacies and policies. He refused the pleas.
“Our hope is in God and the good people of Osun State. Nobody can overcome God. It is not a sin to contest for a position in a democratic government. The constitution of the party stipulates that after four years, we can change our candidate. But if he abides by the tenets of the party, we will support him for another term,” Aregbesola stated.
Speaking further, the Minister said there’s no going back in his total support for the former Secretary to the State Government, Moshood Adeoti to emerge as the APC flagbearer in the party primary election scheduled for Saturday, 19th February (today) to choose a candidate for the July 16 governorship polls.
“The leaders of the party have agreed that we should go back to where we missed the road in 2018. We have realized our mistake that the person we ought to put in front, we neglected him. We followed an ingrate and a wicked soul,” he told the people of Ayedaade/Isokan/Irewole Federal Constituency who were at the meeting.
The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) on Friday banned Nigeria’s 2008 Olympic long jump silver medalist, Blessing Okagbare for 10 years over doping.
“The Disciplinary Tribunal has banned Nigerian sprinter Blessing Okagbare for a total of 10 years,” read an AIU statement.
The 33-year-old sprinter won silver in the long jump at Beijing 2008.
The Nigerian competed in the 100m heats in Tokyo on July 31 2021 but was suspended prior to the semi-final.
The AIU had said that Okagbere tested positive for presence and use of a prohibited substance due to human growth hormone at an out-of-competition test in Slovakia on July 19.
“The AIU requested EPO analysis be conducted on the sample on July 29 and the adverse analytical finding was reported to it on Aug. 12,” the AIU said on August 20.
