Tinubu @71: Why President-elect Is God’s Gift To Nigeria – Obasa

Nigeria’s President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is one of God’s gift to Nigeria, the most populous black nation on earth, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has said.

Dr. Obasa said this in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Eromosele Ebhomele, congratulating Tinubu who clocked 71 on Wednesday, March 29, 2023.

The Speaker said Tinubu, ‘a puzzle too hard to crack’, equates with great men around the world whose stories show great passion and undying love for their countries and citizens.

According to him, the recent presidential election won by Asiwaju Tinubu is an icing on the cake for the President-elect, who has never shied away from being of service to God and humanity.

The Speaker recalled the sacrifice Tinubu made to take Nigeria back from the military and entrench democracy in the country, noting how difficult it is to find individuals with such level of patriotism.

“For a man whose thought at all times is about salvaging the country from economic and social bondage, victory at the recent polls came at the right time.

“There is no way Nigeria’s political story can be written without Asiwaju featuring prominently as a result of the positive roles he played before the current democratic dispensation and up till this moment.

“We believe that Almighty Allah has a reason for giving him to us in Nigeria, especially at this time of the nation’s journey. We have no doubt in his capacity to deliver. He has done it before.

“With a birthday that comes exactly two months to his oath-taking as President of Nigeria, it is not out of place to say Asiwaju is a blessing to us, one sent to put things right and lay the foundation upon which modern Nigeria would be built.

“On behalf of my family, members, staff and management of the Lagos State House of Assembly, I congratulate our dear Asiwaju on his 71st birthday and pray that Allah continue to favour him with vitality, good health and wisdom to navigate our country out of the woods, amin,” Obasa prayed.

Ramadan: Let’s Imbibe Lessons In Piety, Tolerance, Speaker Obasa Tells Muslims

Ramadan: Let’s Imbibe Lessons In Piety, Tolerance, Speaker Obasa Tells Muslims

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has said that the 30-day Islamic fasting affords Muslim faithful the opportunity to rededicate themselves to the religious tenets of piety, tolerance, forgiveness and love.

Dr. Obasa added that the Ramadan is a period of sober reflection, supplications and humility before Almighty Allah.

Obasa, in his Ramadan message released by Eromosele Ebhomele, his Chief Press Secretary, also congratulated Muslims in Lagos and Nigeria for having the divine privilege of being alive to partake in ‘Sawm’ and observe one of the five pillars of Islam.

The Speaker equally described the Ramadan as a period for Muslims in Lagos and Nigeria to show more commitment and adherence to the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, especially in the area of alms giving and love for one another.

Noting that the fasting came at the right time for Nigerians as the country just conducted the 2023 general election with Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as the President-elect, the Speaker urged Muslims to pray for the leadership of the country as well as the incoming administrations at national and state levels.

“We thank Almighty Allah for the privilege He has given us to partake in this Ramadan. We also thank Him for all that He has done for us individually, for our State and our country.

“Just as we seek the face of Allah for our individual needs at this period, let us also remember our country, especially at this time. We are happy Allah answered our Special Tawaf of last year on the presidential ambition of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Now that victory has been recorded, let’s all use this period to pray for the success of the forthcoming administration.

“As we fast, let’s not forget that alms giving is a cardinal principle in Islam just like it is in every religion. We should spend each day sharing love and reaching out to others.

“The Holy Qur’an instructs us to ‘Spend in God’s cause: do not contribute to your destruction with your own hands, but do good, for God loves those who do good.’

“Let’s not also forget to be pious, humble, tolerant of each other and obey every of Allah’s instructions now and always. Ramadan Kareem!” Obasa said while praying that every Nigerian would reap the reward of Ramadan.

Cash Crisis: Former Finance Minister Idika Kalu Blames CBN

Cash Crisis: Former Finance Minister Idika Kalu Blames CBN

A former Minister of Finance, Dr Idika Kalu, has faulted the logistics of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for the crisis that has characterized the distribution of new N1000, N500 and N200.

Speaking on Channels Television on Friday, he noted that the new naira scarcity was a result of a huge logistic mistake.

He said, “It is obvious that what we are dealing with is huge logistic mistakes that have been made.”

Kalu added that the CBN ought to have done its preliminary assessment of how long and what it would take to ensure the efficient distribution of the new notes.

“You have to assess the timing, which is predicated on how long it will take to do the exercise that you want to do. So, that is where it is really up to the central bank and its advisers to come up to the government to say, you have agreed we will do this. This is how much time we need, every aspect of it, procuring the papers for printing, whether it is imported or locally made, the printing process itself, the logistics of identifying the various constituencies, the banks, the communities, the rural areas and all segments of this country.

“The people are not interested in all these details but you have to take into account how you are going to deliver. Is it by air, road, train or a combination of all that?,” he added.

He explained that the reason the new notes were not in banks when people needed them was due to poor logistics.

“The logistics have to be very carefully put together. It is very apparent that we did not do that. I think the logistics are really the problem not the question of jurisdiction,” Kalu noted.

He further faulted the CBN’s reasons for redesigning the old notes, stating that countries don’t change their currencies because they want to improve the effectiveness of monetary policies.

He also noted that there were other policies that the CBN and the Federal Government could have introduced if they wanted to tackle corruption and the high amount of currency in circulation.

Kalu also said that the naira redesign plan of the CBN would likely lead to a contraction in the economy.

He further questioned the metrics of inflation used to measure the effectiveness of the naira redesign policy.

“If you curtail the money supply, it will bring down inflation. But they will have to check on what it does to production and employment. So, it is not a one-dimensional measure of success,” he said.

He further described the naira redesign policy of the CBN as draconian, noting that there was something wrong with what the CBN was trying to do.
