Suspected Yahoo Boys stab RCCG pastor to death in Lagos church

Suspected hoodlums have attacked and killed a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in FESTAC Town, in the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State.

Our correspondent gathered that the victim, Pastor Babatunde Dada, was killed inside the RCCG Chapel of Resurrection on 13 Road, 6th Avenue, FESTAC Town.

The killing, which happened on Thursday, December 2, was said to have been perpetrated by two new converts who came to the church for the first time a Sunday before the incident.

The two youths were said to have come out during an altar call and surrendered their lives to Jesus.

The church accommodated them on its premises after they claimed to be stranded.

They had barely spent a week in the church when they reportedly stabbed the cleric to death.

A senior pastor in the church, Akin Odejare, declined comment on the incident when contacted by PUNCH Metro.

However, the wife of the pastor, Bose, told our correspondent on the phone that she called her husband on the day of the incident and he promised to come home to rest.

She said, “My husband was killed on December 2 at the church. He was the admin/accounts officer, as well as the parish pastor. I was not with him when he was killed, but I was told that they collected money from him. I heard that those who killed him were new converts.”

A family member, who is also a security expert, Mr Abolarinwa Olatunbosun, told our correspondent on Wednesday that the pastor was killed after withdrawing money from a bank.

He said, “The pastor went to a bank to withdraw some money and went to rest on the first floor of the church. Two persons said to be new converts went to meet him upstairs, broke his head and killed him.

“The matter was reported to the police and one of the suspects, who ran to Ilorin, has been arrested.”

Olatunbosun said the killing might be for ritual purposes, adding that the assailants were suspected Internet fraudsters, aka Yahoo boys.

The expert said criminals were beginning to attack churches and pastors because they believed there was money in church.

He advised religious centres to be security conscious and put in place strategies that could stop criminals from killing, kidnapping and robbing leaders and worshippers.

A friend of the slain pastor, Fred Enemigin, who is the founder, Highflyers International, Lagos, said in a Facebook post that the pastor was stabbed multiple times.

He wrote, “Two boys had come to church last Sunday and they responded to the altar call by giving their lives to Christ. After church service, they waited to see the head pastor and told him that they were stranded without any place to stay.

“On compassionate grounds, the pastor allowed them to stay somewhere within the church premises pending when they would be resettled. Pastor Tunde Dada, who had for almost a decade been the accountant of RCCG Chapel of Resurrection Parish, was assigned to provide needed welfare for the boys until their matter would be sorted.

“On the fateful Thursday, Tunde was seated in his office and the boys targeting that they were alone on the church premises with him, entered his office and attacked him with knives and other sharp weapons. He was stabbed multiple times and places until they had him killed right there on the spot.

“Our minds are still searching for what the rift between the boys and Tunde was considering the fact that the Tunde we knew was a very gentle soul. Could they have asked for more welfare than what was approved for them and Tunde declined? What on earth would warrant this brutal killing by those who were recipients of a server of the church’s benevolence? There are many more questions that we have not found answers to.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu, said he had yet to be briefed about the case.

Nothing less than 23 passengers have lost their lives after a school bus they were travelling in plunged into River Enziu in Kitui, Kenya on the morning of Saturday, December 4.

The 51-seater bus belonging to St Joseph Seminary Mwingi was ferrying passengers, mainly the choir, to wedding of an elderly couple aged over 70, who were renewing their vows in Nuu area.

Among the 23 dead passengers are 18 choir members of Mwingi Catholic Church, who were heading for a wedding in Nuu area from Mwingi Town.

A survivor, Simon Kea said the driver got confident after two “matatus” and some contractors crossed the flooded river.

Kea said; “We were about 40 passengers when leaving Mwingi in the morning. Around 10 seats were empty. As we were crossing the river, the 51-seater bus was full with more than 15 people standing.”

On how he survived the incident, Kea said he was pulled out through the window by one of the divers who rushed to the scene to save lives.

He said; “I felt a hand grab my shoulder and pull me out through the window. I thank God for sparing my life.”

As of Saturday evening, 23 bodies had been retrieved and 10 survivors had been rushed to the Mwingi Hospital. Officers from the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) have since been deployed to help with the rescue mission.

Preliminary reports indicated that members of the bridal party, her three children and two grandchildren, were also on the bus.

Mwingi East Sub County Police Commander Joseph Yakan said; “This is a river and it was flooding. The driver lost control and slid into a ditch. The bus capsized next to the bridge. The driver has also died. The bus was leaving Mwingi Central towards Nuu in Mwingi East.”

Another eyewitness claimed the bus driver had been warned not to cross the river. He said;

“We told him the water levels were too high but he insisted. You cannot compare a lorry and bus, if it was a lorry, it may not have capsised. Imagine the whole bus is in the water.”

Synagogue church holds first Sunday service months after TB Joshua’s burial

The Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) held its first Sunday service on November 7, four months after the founder Prophet TB Joshua was buried.

The church’s new leader Evelyn Joshua led prayers of thanksgiving and forgiveness. A clip of the late Joshua, which is not time-bound, was played for the congregants. Joshua prayed thus: “Hear what God says: Those in darkness, in the name of Jesus – come out!”

A note posted on the church’s Facebook page read, “As the prayer continued, the Spirit of God worked wonders in the lives of the people, rescuing them from the kingdom of darkness and bringing them into the kingdom of His glorious light. Many received their healing and deliverance as the Holy Spirit flushed out everything that Satan had planted in their lives.”

Before praying with the congregants, Evelyn, Joshua’s widow, read Psalm 100:1-5, assuring congregants of God’s faithfulness throughout all generations and His enduring love. She then asked worshippers to give thanks to God for all that He has done in their lives.

“It was a joyful time in God’s presence as The SCOAN choir rendered songs of praise and worship to the Lord Most High for His goodness and mercy. Indeed, the atmosphere was charged with a wonderful energy that lifted the spirits of worshippers,” another message on the church’s Facebook page read.

The church had been closed since July 11 when a thanksgiving service was held to signal the end of the week-long funeral of Joshua.

TB Joshua died on June 5, one week to his 58th birthday.

His wife was selected as SCOAN’S new leader in September.

Speaking after succeeding her husband, Mrs. Joshua said the church will reopen for service when the leadership gets approval from God.

She said although church members were eager to begin physical services, they must first hear from the Lord and be guided by the revelations from the Holy Spirit to begin.

“We are getting ready and even yearning to start services but we cannot go outside the will of God whose directive is what we shall continue to uphold, live and work on,” she stated.

I Pray There Will Be Nigeria In 2023 – Pastor Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has warned politicians against being desperate to win the 2023 presidential election.

Nigeria is expected to elect another president to replace President Muhammadu Buhari whose tenure will expire on May 28, 2023.

The cleric while speaking on Sunday during a telecast said those who could not say for sure they would be alive in 2023 were already getting prepared to kill to win the election.

The pastor, who spoke on the topic ‘The Great Expectations,’ said it’s only God who could say those who would be alive by then.

Adeboye said it was unsafe for anyone to say his ambition is to become president when they were not sure they would be alive tomorrow or wether the country would still be in existence by that time.

Adeboye said, “This is 2021 and some people are already getting ready to kill themselves over 2023. They don’t even know whether there will be 2023, they don’t even know whether they will still be around. There is nobody here who can say for sure that he will still be around by tomorrow. It is God who determines who will still be around by 2023.

“Someone said to me sir, who do you think will be president in 2023, I said the president of where? He said the president of Nigeria. How are you sure there will be Nigeria in 2023? How are you sure? Can you swear? I pray there will be Nigeria, so you don’t misquote me. But are you sure?”

Speaking on the topic of his sermon, the cleric said his greatest expectation was to see larger members of his church make it to heaven.

He said, “My greatest expectation is that I will see you in heaven. The members of Redeemed will occupy a particular section that the angel will say you tried. Without holiness, there is no Heaven. Which Heaven are you going to?”

Adeboye, speaking about consolation of those mourning, noted that it was easy for others to console the bereaved without feeling the impact

The preacher, who lost his son, Dare,
to death on May 4, 2021.said he knew exactly how people feel when they mourn.

“It is easy to say you will see the person again because I have tasted it. I have the experience,” he added.

Maureen did create a VERY BAD INTERNET ATMOSPHERE FOR YOUNG BELIEVERS, AND A NEGATIVE NOTION ABOUT CHRISTIANDOM, and many who are undiscerning almost believed her , she laid claims to different kind of unfounded stories , creating fake call in scenarios to her live streams on YouTube and other social media platforms , conniving with pastors and minister that were either expelled from MFM or suspended for one atrocity or the other on matters unfounded , putting up different allegations against the general overseer of the ministry, to the extent of dragging the wife and son on social media over an unspeakable topic.

This woman must have caused so much pains and distractions to the members of that ministry, but little did she know that the old saying, every day for the thief and one day for the owner, was written for people like her.

When I decided to follow up this story, I warned Maureen that she was walking into a fiery furnace that will consume her and her entire establishment, because I knew from the very beginning that all she was after was money and views and I sensed that she was using a script put together by wrong people , but no she decided to dance at the gate of fire, the very wrong one for that matter, instead of her to listen to my advice, rather she turned around to do a program about me and abused me, called me all sort of despicable names.

Today I am happy, very very happy to announce to you that Maureen Badejo has been sued and judgment has been passed
SHE IS TO RENOUNCE ALL THE ALLEGATIONS SHE MADE AGAINST DR DK OLUKOYA AND TENDER AN APOLOGY FOR TEN DAYS ON ALL HER SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS AND TO PAY THE SUM OF 100,000 POUNDS to Dr. D.K Olukoya and the wife.

Please my people kindly follow this link https://www.facebook.com/watch/maureenbadejosblog/ so you can witness the shame and disgrace of a liar and ONE WHO DECIDED TO FIGHT AGAINST ONE WHOM GOD HAS BLESSED IN TOTAL today will be the fourth day that she will be adhering to the judgment passed by the QUEENS BENCH HIGH COURT UK, after ranting on her FACEBOOK LIVE SHOW that she won’t do it BUT INDEED SHE IS AFRAID TO GO TO PRISON.

Obviously she enjoyed a thunderous fan base and a fatter bank account within those periods but today she has become a beggar, setting up go fund me accounts at the slightest opportunity, to settle her debts and law suits.

Some Pastors Have Turned Their Pulpits To Soapboxes – Femi Adesina Alleges

Presidential Spokesman, Femi Adesina, has accused some pastors in the country of constantly attacking President Muhammadu Buhari.
The presidential aide stated that these pastors have turned their pulpits to an avenue to spew hate and ridicule the President over the state of the nation.

He agreed that religious leaders and Nigerians have the right to be angry over the challenges facing the country, it must be noted that the Buhari government was doing its best to change the nation’s fortunes.

Adesina made the submission via an article released on his Facebook page on Thursday which he titled ‘This Kumuyi is simply different’, in support of a statement by the General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi.

He stated that the constant criticism of his principal by an Abuja-based pastor forced him to stop going to a branch of his church, accusing the pastor of seeing himself as someone who must bring the Buhari government down with his criticisms.

He added that some Nigerian pastors are guilty of giving fake prophecies, recalling how some religious leaders predicted that Buhari would lose the 2019 election.

He wrote, “I used to attend a church in Abuja from 2015 to 2018, till the pastor began to see himself as someone who must bring the Buhari government down. Sunday after Sunday, it was all sorts of criticism from the pulpit. But I endured, since it was a branch of a church I had attended for over 30 years. Till one day, he overdid it.

“The Dapchi girls were abducted and there was no name the pastor did not call President Buhari that Sunday. It was horrendous that such things could come from the pulpit. But I suffered long and sat through the sermon, or rather, what was supposed to be a sermon. I then went home, wondering what the church of God was turning to.

“Irrespective of the titles they bear, I hear bishops, apostles, prophets, pastors, evangelists, cursing the government, and issuing doomsday notices. One even said publicly that the Buhari administration was over, before the 2019 elections. But the man won handsomely, and that preacher still struts and frets on the pulpit every week, not repenting in sackcloth and ashes.”

Adesina went ahead to appreciate Kumuyi for urging Christians not to attack those in authority and destroy government property because they failed to keep to electoral promises.

The presidential aide, however, berated some pastors for supporting the youths during the #EndSARS protests in 2020 which led to the destruction of properties in Lagos State.

Adesina added, “Pastor Kumuyi also says if you are a true believer in Christ, you wouldn’t go on the rampage, destroying government property… But that was not what we saw in the country in October last year. The country was almost burned down under the subterfuge of EndSARS.

“And sadly, they were encouraged by pastors and preachers, who simply hate the fact that a Fulani man is their President. Many of them are on record as having encouraged the protesters, till things went ugly, turned awry. And the pastors vanished into the thin air. Not a word of caution or restraint as the cities were burning, and policemen were being killed, and even eaten up.”
