The Chief of Defense Staff, General Lucky Irabor, has faulted the procedure adopted in the release of the report of the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Restitution For Victims Of SARS Related Abuses and Other Matters.
Speaking after a courtesy visit to Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, the Defence Chief said the report ought to have been submitted to the convening authority.
“I am sure those of you in the media must have seen a report that was released through, in my view, a wrong channel, that is making the rounds in the social media,” the CDS said.
“Whether it is a true report, I can’t tell. But I’d like to indicate that the normal procedure is to have such a report submitted to the convening authority. And then there will be a white paper that will be presented, based on which one can make informed comments.”
General Irabor also stated that the Nigerian armed forces are committed to their constitutional mandate and would not engage in ignoble acts as alleged in the report.
“I’d like to indicate that the Armed Forces of Nigeria is a professional armed force. We are peopled by Nigerians and we remain committed to the constitutional mandate. So we will not at this point think that Nigerians should make disparaging remarks regarding the Armed Forces of Nigeria, in the sense that we are a professional armed forces. If there are issues, of course, we address them within the ambit of the provisions.
“It would not be right to disparage men and women who have worked so hard to ensure that the territorial integrity of this nation is kept intact. So in the meantime, until I see the full extent of the report.
“I can assure that the Armed Forces of Nigeria are well-disciplined and we do not engage in any ignoble acts. If Nigerians do not trust us, then we won’t be doing what we are doing, and in any case, it is the Armed Forces of Nigeria; we are not talking of the police. So when the Armed Forces are called out, it is because there is a need; there is no one who doesn’t desire to live in peace.
“We need to understand that the Armed Forces are there to keep the peace, to provide the ambiance that will enable each Nigerian to live his or her desires in peace and harmony. So let us not make inciting comments that will put the entire space on fire. That’s not right.”

Popular Instagram comedian, Ahmed Gafar, known as The Cute Abiola has been declared missing.
This was made known by a fellow comedian, Mr Macaroni on Tuesday evening.
Mr Macaroni shared the news on Twitter and also attached a Whatsapp message he received.
From the message, it was alleged that the last time Cute Abiola’s wife and associates heard from him was on November 15.
While it was stated that no one has heard from him since then, it was also alleged that he was locked up in a Nigerian navy cell and nobody knows the offence he committed.
The message read; “Ahmed Gafar is popularly known as The Cute Abiola left his house for office at Navy Town at 06:00Am on the 15th November, 2021 and got to the office at about 07:00am or thereafter. While he got to the office, he called his wife and associates that he had gotten to the office.
“Subsequently, his wife and other associates have made several attempts to contact him but to no avail. Since he last communicated with his wife and associates that he already got to the office, he has not returned to his family and no one has heard from him till this moment.
“It was subsequently gathered from a reliable source that he has been locked up in the Nigerian Navy cell since he got to the office yesterday morning till the time of posting this information without being fed and no date has been stated for his release from custody.
“The most frustrating part is that nobody is talking anything as to the offense he has committed, but that he’s been detained on an order from the Nigerian Navy Headquarters.
“This unfortunate situation has rendered his wife emotionally tortured and traumatized as the Cute Abiola is an Ulcer patient. Hence, not feeding an Ulcer patient as punishment for an undisclosed offense is something to be worried about with the view to avoiding unnecessary circumstance with regards to the health of The Cute Abiola”

A former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri has called Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari names. This comes after the Lagos panel report indicted the Nigerian Army and Police on the Lekki Massacre.
He wrote; “When I called Buhari an oloriburuku, some people said I was being rude to the President. Do you know what oloriburuku means? A person with a wicked and useless head. Where is the lie? Go and read the Lagos #EndSARS panel report to see how he wasted human lives during #LekkiMassacre
“
Recall that the Federal Government through the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, had consistently denied reports of a massacre at the toll gate.
However, the Panel in its report submitted on Monday disclosed that not less than eleven people were killed at the Lekki tollgate on October 20, 2020.
The panel in the report titled, ‘Report of Lekki Incident Investigation Of 20th October 2020’, noted at least 48 protesters were either shot dead, injured with bullet wounds or assaulted by soldiers.
He had earlier said he will make sure that Buhari ends up in prison.
Read his words below; “Can everybody who doubted and insulted me when I said that the Satellite Sentinel Project was able to prove that the Nigerian Army, under the DIRECT command of Buratai and Buhari, killed innocent, peaceful, and unarmed protesters during the #EndSARS #LekkiMassacre now apologise to me? Go back and watch or listen to my video on the very day the massacre occurred. The Lagos State Panel on SARS has vindicated me. Muhammadu Buhari, as long as I am alive, you will retire to prison, not to Daura. Cowardly man like you that only has balls when you have a gun. Murderer. Olodo without WAEC! May God punish you and Buratai”
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been evicted from the property which houses the party’s secretariat in Lagos State over unpaid rent.
It was learnt that the landlord of the property located at 56A Adekunle Fajuyi Road, GRA, Lagos claimed the party is owning rent running into several millions of naira.
However, in its immediate reaction, the Lagos PDP has described the development as sad and a grand plan to embarrass them.
The party in a statement through its state publicity secretary, Taofik Gani claimed they just recently paid N8m with an agreement to settle the balance soon.
The statement added that they are unaware of the court process ordering their eviction, and vowed to take up the matter legally saying its all part of attempts to destabilize the PDP in Lagos.
He said, “To the best of my knowledge, I know there were demands for outstanding rent and infact some payments made with balance to be paid soonest, but not aware of any court process to evict at all.
“This must not be a ‘kangaroo’ process aided to embarrass and destabilize the main opposition in the state.
“All sensitive documents of the party must have been destroyed or deliberately taken away to break our strategies towards 2023. This is Vendetta.
“We shall put in all legal efforts to get justice.”
Meanwhile, a former National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Victor Umeh has called out the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2021 Anambra governorship election, Senator Andy Uba, telling him to bury his thought of going to court to challenge the outcome of the election.
Umeh said the people of Anambra State have openly chosen the leader they want based on the outcome of the November 6 election which produced Charles Soludo of APGA.
The APGA chieftain further chided Umeh over his threat to challenge the election result in court by telling the APC candidate that ‘Anambra is not Imo’ where a candidate who came fourth at the polls eventually became the State Governor through a court order.
He mocked Uba, reminding him that he didn’t win any of the 21 local government areas in the state, hence his claim of a ‘stolen’ mandate is not sensible.
Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani has reacted to the findings and conclusion of the Lagos State judicial panel on police brutality cases and the shooting of protesters at Lekki toll gate.
Naija News had reported earlier that the panel Chairperson, Justice Doris Okuwobi (rtd) delivered two reports to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the State Secretariat in Ikeja on Monday.
Sanwo-Olu had stated, after receiving the report, that it will be submitted to the National Economic Council (NEC), chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Naija News understands that the Lagos #EndSARS panel in its reports indicted the Nigeria Police Force in the October 20, 2020 incidents that caused a commotion in the country.
In the report titled, ‘Report Of Lekki Incident Investigation of 20th October 2020’, the panel claimed that the police officers who were at the tollgate physically assault unarmed protesters.
The panel’s report added that the assault of Nigerian youths at the Lekki toll gate led to injuries and deaths.
The panel also accused the police of attempted cover-up of the shooting of protesters at Lekki tollgate by picking up bullets at the scene of the incident.
Reacting to the outcome of the panel that has received commendations from citizens, Shehu Sani in a post on his Twitter account, said those that have been in denial of the Lekki massacre can now bury their shame.
He said they should accept the fact that they tried all possible means to cover up the truth of the incidents.
The former lawmaker tweeted: “The doubters and deniers of the #LekkiMassacre should simply and humbly step out of their bubble of falsehood and accept the fact that they attempted to cover up corpses with Roses.”
Sani wrote in another post: “It’s like People are holding Cutlasses and sticks and looking for those who denied Lekki Massacre”
A lady, identified simply as Susan, has been electrocuted at the Hustle and Bustle club in the Aminu Kano Crescent area of Wuse, Abuja. Hustle and Bustle is a club and restaurant co-owned by a popular socialite, Obi Cubana.
It was gathered that the victim, who went to the club on Saturday, was allegedly electrocuted by a metal on the floor of the clubhouse.
The victim brother’s friend, who narrated the incident on his Twitter page @KhalidOshoke, accused the management of the club of not accompanying Susan to the hospital or reporting the incident to the police.
He tweeted, “My friend called me to tell me that his sister died at Hustle and Bustle early this morning. I quickly drove to the premises and I met my friend, friends of the deceased and employees of the Hustle and Bustle at the venue.
“My friend and his people have been at Hustle and Bustle since morning demanding CCTV footage so at least we can know the events that led to her demise. The most astonishing aspect of all this is the fact that the employees keep saying that the manager is the only one with access to the footage and the manager is sleeping.
“My friend’s sister died on the premises and the manager is sleeping; we are still here waiting for him to wake up from his beauty sleep.”
The Twitter user, who later tweeted that the family had been given access to the CCTV footage, noted that the matter had been reported to the police.
“Manager is finally here and we’ve seen the footage and she was obviously electrocuted by one of the metals on the floor.
“We’re all gathered at the police station and the management of Hustle and Bustle sent their facility manager to represent them. Not only did they not report the case, they didn’t accompany the deceased who died on their premises to the hospital. It took the manager seven hours to respond,” he wrote.
Following the post, Nigerians urged the victim’s family to sue the club and called on the government to close the facility.
An Instagram user, @kienidarling, while reacting on Instablog9ja, faulted the club management for not keeping the facility safe for the public.
She said, “Occupiers liability. Simple sue hustle and bustle. They are expected to keep their premises in such a way as not to cause harm or injury to their visitors.”
Another user, @gatsegwasi, said, “What sort of negligence and I don’t care attitude is this? Management has to face the law. This is really heartbreaking.”
An Instagram user, @abiodundabiri, said, “Clearly, she died from the negligent behaviour of their staff which resulted in electrocution. They have a responsibility to protect the life and property of all those who visit their establishment.
However, the management of the club, in a statement posted on its Instagram page on Monday, announced the closure of the facility till further notice.
The statement read in part, “We’re closed till further notice. This is due to the loss of our esteemed client. We are deeply saddened by this situation and need time to heal from it.
“Our prayers are with the families of the lost soul; may her soul rest in peace. We sympathise with the family on this unbearable loss.”
The FCT police spokesperson, DSP Josephine Adeh, said investigation was ongoing, adding that the police would conduct an autopsy on the corpse.
She said, “The case was reported to the police. This is a case of sudden and unnatural death, which investigation is going on. We are going to carry out an autopsy to determine the cause of death. I cannot tell you the cause of the death now until the investigation and autopsy are completed.”
