8 things you need to do with your brand new Sony PlayStation 5

The PS5 is finally here and while games are undoubtedly the most important part of any console launch, the PS5’s new user interface is a treasure trove of pretty cool new options. We had an in-depth look at the options and found a few tips and tricks to help supercharge your PlayStation experience.

Some are handled seamlessly during set-up but others are buried in a mountain of settings and options. We thought it was worth breaking down.

Here’s what we think is worth doing when you first turn on your PS5, to help tailor your PS5 experience to your own specific preferences.

PlayStation 5

1. Check out your privacy settings

During the initial PS5 set-up you’ll be asked to select from a series of four different privacy settings with names like “Social and Open” or “Solo and Focused”. It’s essentially letting you control your online profile and what others can see.

But those settings can be broken down further within those categories, giving you complete control over whether you’ll show up in search results, or who can add you as a friend, etc.

These settings can be found under the “Users and Accounts” tab in settings.

2. Select your power settings

The PS5 gives you the ability to better control how much power your PS5 is pulling, mostly when you put it into “rest mode”. As with the privacy settings, you’ll be able to choose between profiles during set-up, with presets that can be broken down further if you feel like diving deeper. Those presets determine how long it takes for your PS5 to power down when idle and also whether or not the console will automatically download updates — very useful if you want to avoid the dreaded system update when you want to play something online.

3. Mess around with HDR sliders

If you have a TV that’s HDR capable, you’ll definitely want to make sure you have these settings right.

Again, the PS5 allows you to tinker with the contrast and brightness during set-up but, personally, I went back and forth with these settings a few times, mainly because if you change the settings on your TV after set-up (say, to a Game Mode) those HDR settings will be affected. It makes sense to go back and optimize. Especially if you’re as picky about picture quality as I am! (I’ve spent an embarrassing amount of time fixing these settings.)

4. Experiment with the sub-menu

Possibly my favourite parts of the PS5’s UI is the sub-menu you can bring up whilst in-game. Basically if you push the big PlayStation button in the middle of the controller this sub-menu pops up in game. Very nifty.

Older consoles have had some variation of this feature for a while now, but I’m a huge fan of the PS5’s version. It’s unobtrusive, subtle and allows for customization.

You can access settings, mess around with sound levels and add additional devices like headphones. You can even link your Spotify account and choose music from the sub-menu. VR options are also available from here, which will be a big help for those trying to fix VR issues on the fly.

You can easily switch between recently played games in this sub-menu as well, negating the need to go to the homepage to start a new game.

But my favourite part: It’s possible to customize your sub menu. You can even add the PS5’s accessibility options to the sub, which I’d imagine will be incredibly helpful for disabled gamers.

5. Choose between performance and resolution

Those of you with a PS4 Pro will most likely be aware that games are going a bit PC. Games like God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn let you choose whether you’d prefer the PS4 Pro focus its extra processing power on resolution or performance (which essentially means frame-rate).

Personally, I always prefer a focus on performance over resolution. And if you have a TV that doesn’t do 4K, you’ll definitely prefer performance over resolution.

Either way, to save you the hassle of selecting your preferences anew with each game, the PS5 allows you to select a default choice in the settings. Head to Saved Data Game/App settings and select game presets.

6. Pick your default difficulty

In the game presets section, there’s a lot of good stuff — you can even choose which difficulty you prefer as a default.

Personally, that’s not something I’d be doing. I reckon game difficulty is way too subjective and differs wildly between games. But I know there are folks out there that like to immediately crank to the toughest setting straight away and, vice versa, people who just like to play games for the story.

7. Check your controller settings and have a tinker

This is an absolute must.

This isn’t exactly a new thing, but the PS5 lets you set up default controller settings that are applicable to all games. First and foremost, you can make “invert” your default on first-person shooters or in third-person games with camera controls.

I am constantly having to dive into game settings to change that, so that’s a must for me.

You’ve probably heard that the PS5 DualSense controller is a big leap forward in terms of its adaptive triggers and vibrate functions. You can also make changes to the intensity of the effect. Personally I wouldn’t touch it. I’m very happy with the default, but it’s there if you want to tweak it.

8. Choose your spoiler settings

I couldn’t believe this one exists but it does!

You can actually control the level of spoilers you will see when navigating through the PlayStation Store. You can select between eliminating “all” potential spoilers, or eliminating spoilers as determined by the developers of the game.

So if you happen to be incredibly sensitive to spoilers, you can head to the Saved Data Game/App section of the settings and click on Game Presets. The option is in there.

Alibaba Set new Single Day Sales Record with $74 billion amid Pandemic

Alibaba’s Singles Day sales were over $74 billion, the Chinese retail giant reported shortly after midnight.

Singles Day on November 11, or Double 11, is a Chinese shopping holiday started by online retailer Alibaba to celebrate single people, in opposition to Valentine’s Day, although the day mostly revolves around the online deals available. Sales each year surpass Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined, making it the world’s single largest shopping event.

This year, Alibaba has adopted some of the same strategy as US retailers around Black Friday, expanding the sale. Some sales started between November 1-3, including American brands like Adidas, Nike, and Apple. Alibaba didn’t release sales numbers for the first Singles Day window, but it said in a statement that sales “indicate strong consumption rebound and higher-than-ever demand in China.”

Alibaba Group Executive vice chairman Joe Tsai said in a livestreamed event that the Chinese economy has bounced back to pre-pandemic levels, pointing to the 17% growth year over year of ecommerce in China. As of 11 p.m. in China, US businesses passed $5 billion in sales, the most of any country outside of China.

Border Closure: BUA explains ‘limited’ concession gotten for cement export

BUA Cement, on Tuesday, said it never received any blanket approval to export cement through the Nigerian land borders at a time the borders were closed. The company said it was only granted a limited approval to export some cement to Niger Republic, which is 100kms from its plant, and this was disclosed in the company’s half-year results.

The clarification comes amid revelations that rival Dangote Cement got approval from the Nigerian government to export cement through some of Nigeria’s land borders at a time the borders were closed.

Earlier on Tuesday, PREMIUM TIMES reported how details emerged that despite the border closure policy put in place, the Nigerian government had allowed Dangote Cement to resume cement export across its land borders.

According to Bloomberg, President Muhammadu Buhari‘s administration gave its authorisation for Africa’s biggest producer to export cement to Niger and Togo in the third quarter for the first time in ten months.

The revelations were made by Michel Puchercos, chief executive officer of Dangote Cement, on an investor call in Lagos.

The revelation sparked outrage on social media Tuesday, as many Nigerians questioned the rationale for granting such approval to selected businesses while other businesses suffer the effect of the year-long blockade.

Stanbic IBTC founder, Atedo Peterside, questioned the rationale for granting such waivers to only a few businesses.

On Tuesday, the management of Dangote Group in its reaction described reports of the development as “misleading and mischievous”.

In a statement, Tuesday, the company said it was not the only company enjoying such privilege to move goods through the land borders.

Meanwhile, details emerged Tuesday that rival BUA Cement also received a similar waiver earlier in the year.

In an internal memo dated June 18th and signed by Dimka V.D, Custom Comptroller (Enforcement, Hqtrs) on behalf of Deputy Comptroller-General (E,I&I), the government approved the movement of BUA Cement trucks to Niger Republic.

“I am directed to forward herewith a letter from the Office of The National Security Adviser referenced NSA/227/C dates 17th June, 2020 on the above subject matter,” the memo reads.

“The trucks will exit and return through Illela Border station in Sokoto State. “Attached herewith is a list with names of drivers and truck license numbers and other relevant details for ease of reference.

“This is forwarded for information and strict compliance, please,” the memo addressed to Custom Zonal Coordinator in charge of Sokoto/Zamfara commands stated.

Reacting to reports about the memo Tuesday night, BUA Cement said the company did not enjoy express approval to export cement as reported in a section of the media.

In a telephone conversation with PREMIUM TIMES, the Group Head of Corporate Communications at BUA Group, O’tega Ogra, said the company only received “limited approval” to export.

“BUA Cement does not have any blanket approval to export and the Nigerian borders remain closed,” he said.

“BUA Cement was granted a limited approval to export some cement to Niger Republic (which is 100kms from our plant), and this was disclosed in our half-year results and presentations to the investing and general public.”

Similarly, a transcript of the company’s half-year results call made available to PREMIUM TIMES detailed how Yusuf Binji, the company’s MD/CEO, explained the export approval to investors and analysts earlier in the year.

When asked questions about the export, Mr Binji explained that during the month of June, the company received an approval for limited export to the Niger Republic from “our so-called Plant” through the Illela border which it carried out successfully.

“The Nigeria land borders still remain shut,” he said. “So this was a one-off thing we received but we hope to get more subsequently during this quarter.”

When asked if the company would get additional waivers, Mr Binji said the company was optimistic.

“For the exports, yes, we are very hopeful we are going to get more permits to carry our spares to the Niger Republic. Like I mentioned earlier, we were given a one-off thing for a limited quantity which we exhausted in June.

“But we are optimistic it’s going to continue during Q3 through the land border of Illela from Sokoto State into the Niger Republic.”

Speaking about the demand from Niger, Mr Binji said the company tried to make the Nigerian market its priority.

He said: “We have to satisfy the demand in Nigeria. What we are sending is the excess production that we have. So as long as we are not so clear about the actual demand in Nigeria, we would not be able to put a number or figure to how much we are going to export. So we will see and also we have to see when the restrictions are lifted and the borders are fully opened, because like I said, also it was a one-off thing we got and we hope to get more and with that, we cannot really say this is how much you are going to export.

“We are being given the approval in batches. Regarding the Benin Republic, no we don’t have any plans to export the Republic of Benin.” Asked to give full details of the export and approval, he said: “We exported 200 trucks. It came towards the last week of June. 200 trucks of 40 tonnes each, that is 8000 tonnes. That was the approval we got and we exported it fully.”

KARA TANKER EXPLOSION: FRSC CORPS MARSHAL COMMITS TO ENDING TANKER CRASHES IN NIGERIA AS FRSC ISSUES TRAFFIC ADVISORY TO MOTORISTS

The Corps Marshal Federal Road Safety Corps, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi has described as unfortunate but avoidable, the fatal crash that occurred today Saturday 7 November, 2020 at Kara bridge on the outward Lagos lane of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway , stating that frantic efforts are already in place to put an end to tanker explosions.

In a statement by Bisi Kazeem, the Corps Public Education Officer, the Corps Marshal said this after receiving reports of the fatal crash. He stated that the fatal road traffic crash involved a single Tanker fully ladened with PMS. that the crash investigation carried out by a team of FRSC personnel deployed for rescue operations, revealed that the driver lost control of the wheels as a result of mechanical deficiency (tyre blow out) making the tanker to fall on the expressway amidst a wild inferno.

From the crash investigation report submitted, a total of 2 male adults were killed and burnt beyond recognition, while a wanton destruction of properties occasioned by the fire also left 29 vehicles parked by the road side burnt down completely.

Oyeyemi also lamented the actions of hoodlums who prevented the combined rescue teams of the Federal Fire Service and FRSC from approaching the scene of the crash.

According to him, “when our personnel got to the scene, they met teams of Lagos State Fire Service who advised our men against approaching the scene of the crash. The fire fighters said they were equally deployed to the scene for same reason but on arrival, they were chased back by some hoodlums, carrying dangerous weapons”. Both teams had to run to the Isheri Division of Nigeria Police for security cover.

The Corps Marshal also maintained that the Corps is seriously engaging critical stakeholders and making frantic efforts to find lasting solution to tanker explosions on the road . . He called on the Governments at all levels to expedite action towards working out modalities that will support and hasten existing efforts towards fleet renewal as most of the articulated vehicles are aged while efforts are on to enforce compulsory use of safety valves to prevent spillage after falls of tankers.

On the present state of traffic on the road, the Corps wishes to inform the general public that there is no need for panic as the crashed vehicles have been successfully removed from the road and all Obstructions cleared with the road now opened to use. As such, road users already on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway or intending users who have not explored alternative roads should please exercise caution and drive safe; avoid speeding, road rage and ultimately, avoid driving against the flow of traffic. FRSC wishes us safe journey to our various destinations.

Blackmail of Dr. Olukoya & MFM: Maureen Badejo’s Lies Exposed on Video

Report by Femi Oyewale

Maureen Badejo

Just like I promised to keep the people of God and the entire populace informed with the truth and the current state of things, I am here again to burst yet another Maureen’s bubble of new set of 32 lies told so far about MFM but I will focus on 2 or 3 allegations that has made her the oaf that she is . I believe that after this, most of you watching and listening to her propagating her false stories will need to question the state of her mental health and if you are a follower its high time you thought twice.

Let us check out a scripture before I expose her show of shame of the past few days. John chapter 8 verses 44. “Ye are of your father the devil (Maureen) and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, AND ABODE NOT IN THE TRUTH, BECAUSE THERE IS NO TRUTH IN HIM. WHEN HE SPEAKETH A LIE, HE SPEAKETH OF HIS OWN: FOR HE IS A LIAR AND THE FATHER OF IT” . Maureen is the mother of lies from the pit of hell where her father lives. She alleged in one of her recent live streams that a building called Shiloh has been pulled down because an investigation was launched based on her findings, She alleged that MFM KEEPS VIRGINS IN THE PROPERTY FOR RITUAL PURPOSES.

What a laughable and terrible prejudice, this woman must really think highly of herself, to think that MFM LEADERSHIP AND THE GOVERNMENT OF NIGERIA WILL CONDESCEND SO LOW TO LISTEN TO HER BASELESS DISPLAY OF STUPIDITY AND ACT UPON IT, SHOWS THAT SOMETHING IS SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH HER STATE OF MIND. The only reason I take my time to write and publish these nefarious streams, are for CLARITY and the sake of the young Christians and the gullible viewers who are actually her target in this whole matter.. Some of the core values of MFM as a ministry IS SOUL WINNING, DELIVERANCE, REHABILITATION OF PEOPLE, and SPIRITUAL AND PHYSICAL SUPPORT TO MANKIND. For these reasons, MFM HAS BUILT OVER 22 FURNISHED BUILDINGS fondly called hostels, that house the needy, destitute, bereaved, widows, orphans, homeless students of universities, and lots more.

Sometime ago, one of these properties, SHILOH, was noticed to have a defect in structure. As a matter of fact, it was sinking, and the state Government was invited for a thorough evaluation (THE LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT BUILDING TASK FORCE ) of which they gave a report that the building be knocked down. (The new building ) In order to make provisions for the OCCUPANTS that lived in it, the MFM authorities built another structure and relocated the occupants before knocking the building down, AND THE NEW ONE WAS COMPLETED SOMETIME IN SEPTEMBER.

These occupants are widows, male students, families that are in distress and many more, but not VIRGINS like Marine Maureen claimed, neither was the place investigated and pulled down because of her nonsense and empty allegations that have no bearing.

Her second show of shame was a video she played in her stream of a fracas that took place during a political gathering in South America in 2018 where there were Gunshots and serious commotions, SHE CLAIMED THAT THIS HAD TAKEN PLACE IN ONE OF THE MFM BRANCHES IN THE UK. Without further ado, I would like to ask this woman of no self-value and proper understanding, one that obviously needs psychological treatment and mental evaluation these salient questions;

1. Which MFM branch in the UK holds services under an open roof as the video suggests?

2. How come people in the video are not predominantly Africans like you see in typical mfm gathering?

3. How come the people there are mainly South American and not Caucasians?

4. How come the church service has no women and children in the gathering taking cover?

5. How come there was no MFM LOGO present in the hall rather it was another logo entirely?

6. How come we didn’t hear of this DISRUPTED CHURCH gathering in the UK all these while?.

If indeed it transpired in the UK, because if this had happened as you CLAIMED , it would have made headline news AND THE UK POLICE WOULD HAVE MADE ARREST don’t you think?.

(CAN THIS BE MFM LOGO) Simply put, this is not an MFM GATHERING, NEVER WAS, and that event didn’t even happen in the UK but in her usual manipulative way to sway her followers and viewers she displayed HER IGNORANCE AND FOOLISHNESS by putting up this nonsense.

The one that actually got to me in all of her shenanigans WAS WHEN SHE HOSTED THE PICTURE OF THE DEAD on her live stream and lied!!! That the man’s death was related to MFM, and started allegations and accusations on DR DK OLUKOYA UNTIL THE SON OF THE LATE MAN CALLED IN LATER ON THE SHOW and told her to pull her father’s picture down and that his death had nothing to do with MFM. Instead of Maureen to repent and apologize, she acted like she had done nothing wrong and remorselessly continued with her slanders and inhumane activities.

I have drawn my conclusions that this woman needs mental evaluation and has serious issues and I would advise her friends and followers to ask her to seek counsel before its too late. Furthermore, I will leave Maureen and her follower with these 2 scripture one for Maureen -Proverbs 19:5 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape. (Tears will not help you now) and Exodus 23 for her followers- Thou shalt not raise a false report: put not thine hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.

I am ready to shade out all Maureen’s lies; as far as this matter is concerned we will update you with the facts and true picture of these satanic allegations as we continue with our investigation.
