Lagos Assembly Intervenes in Model College Fee Hike
– as parents protest
Following a protest by some Lagos parents over the increase in the boarding fees of the state’s model colleges, the Lagos State House of Assembly has directed the Chairman of its House Committee on Education, Hon. Mosunmola Sangodara, to invite all the concerned stakeholders and report back within a week.
This directive came after the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, met with the protesters at the Assembly gate.
The fees were hiked from N35,000 to N100,000 for the 2024/2025 session which commenced on September 15, 2024.
During plenary on Monday, Obasa said that he had to intervene when he heard the crowd chanting protest songs at the entrance to the Assembly.
He advised the parents to remain calm, assuring them that the matter would be addressed.
Hon. Sangodara (Surulere II) informed the House that the committee had already engaged the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders.
Hon. Shabi Adekola (Lagos Mainland II) also explained that during a meeting with the officials of the Ministry of Education and others, it was agreed that the parents should continue paying N35,000 pending further review of the fees.
Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu (Eti-Osa Constituency II) pointed out that the increment was primarily related to students’ feeding costs. He, however, urged the government to explore ways to ease the financial burden on parents and offer assistance where necessary.
In his contribution, Hon. Bonu Solomon (Badagry I) added that parents had raised concerns that students unable to pay the new fee were not allowed to purchase food within the school premises adding that this had further complicated the situation.
The House is expected to await the report from the education committee before taking further steps.
Lagos Assembly To Hold Second Public Hearing On LG Administration Bill
– invites Attorney-General for interpretation of Supreme Court judgement
The Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday agreed to conduct another public hearing on a bill that seeks to review the Local Government Administration law of the state.
The House also invited the Attorney-General of the State, Lawal Pedro, for an interpretation of the recent Supreme Court judgement on financial autonomy for local governments.
The resolutions came at a sitting presided over by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.
Dr. Obasa said the review of the Local Government Administration law is not aimed at scrapping the LCDAs but to further strengthen them.
“I agree on the need for us to schedule a second allotted day for the public hearing,” the Speaker said while adding that he had been inundated with calls by people who wanted to know the fate of the LCDAs.
“We are not scrapping the LDCAs. Rather, what we are trying to do is to look at the recent Supreme Court judgement in terms of Lagos and local governments joint account and fashion out a way where the parent local governments and the LDCAs work together without the LDCAs shortchanged,” he added.
The Speaker also agreed on the need to work for the formal listing of the LCDAs by the National Assembly.
“Kano has 44 local governments and out of Kano, Jigawa was created and has 27,” he said as he suggested a review of the revenue sharing formula by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission.
Chairman of the Committee on Local Government, Hon. Sanni Okanlawon, had, while giving a report on the public hearing earlier conducted by the committee, said that many of the stakeholders invited for the event could not make it.
He attributed the poor attendance to the weather condition of the day just as he prayed the House to approve a second allotted day for the exercise.
Supporting Hon. Okanlawon’s request, his colleague, Hon. Ladi Ajomale said: “A lot of people are saying they do not understand what is going on and maybe the government is trying to wipe some people out of the local government system,” he said.
He also called for a liaison and better collaboration with the National Assembly with the aim of making the upper legislature understand why the LDCAs should be listed as substantive local governments.
On his part, Hon. Desmond Elliot noted that because of the size of Lagos in terms of population and its economic importance to Nigeria, it was imperative to work for the listing of the LCDAs.
“Anambra state has 21 local governments and it is nowhere close to what Lagos has in terms of resources, economic importance and dividends of democracy,” he said.
Oluwatoyin Madein: Appraising the Apostle of Transparency
By Ochonu Ochonu
The Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) stands as the guardian of Nigeria’s treasury, a position established by Decree 43 of 1988. This esteemed office is reserved for exceptional individuals, handpicked by the President and entrusted with a four-year tenure. Chief Dr. Mrs. Oluwatoyin Madein is one such outstanding leader, whose appointment attests to her remarkable abilities.
Born in Iperu in Ikenne Local Government Area on the 7th day of March 1965, the distinguished goal-getter obtained a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy in 1988 from the Ogun State Polytechnic (presently Moshood Abiola Polytechnic) Abeokuta.
In a bid to improve herself educationally, Mrs Oluwatoyin proceeded to Ogun State University (now Olabisi Onabanjo University) Ago Iwoye from where she graduated colourfully with a Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) followed immediately by a master’s Degree in Business Administration in 2019.
In recognition of her exceptional intellectual prowess and commitment, the Commonwealth University conferred on her the Doctor of Business Administration (Honoris Causa).
Her quest for intellectual development, capacity building and pacesetting, invigorated her into the greater search for knowledge. She realized right in time that she needed proper equipping for the duties and responsibilities that Providence had predestined her for, as such, she proceeded to the highly prestigious Walden University, Minnesota, USA in 2020 from where she bagged a Doctor of Philosophy (P.hD) in Management Finance.
An exquisite and highly determined personality, Dr Oluwatoyin Madien, in a career spanning more than 30 years before her ascendancy to the present position, had served meritoriously in various offices within the civil service.
Her entry point was as a middle-level officer at the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC).
She also was one of the pioneering staff of both the Family Economic Advancement Programme (FEAP) and the famous National Poverty Alleviation Programme (NAPEP).
Her distinguished career also took her to the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Works and Housing and the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development all at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Notably, Chief Dr Mrs Oluwatoyin Madien’s achievements did not start with sudden flight, it was a result of deliberate, resilient and determined efforts.
This is so because before joining the federal civil service, Dr. Toyin served the Ogun State Property and Investment Corporation (OPIC), Abeokuta, as an Executive Officer. The period proved very rewarding as it gave her fresh insight and knowledge of the workings of the second and third tiers of government. An experience that was to later prove extremely rewarding and indisposable.
The highly skilled professional also bagged several eminent recognitions and memberships. For instance, Dr. Toyin is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants (ACCA), UK, a Member Association of National Accountants of Nigeria and a Member Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
Upon assumption of office as the AGF, Chief Dr. Toyin realized that the demands of her new office were not going to be a tea party, as she was confronted with a higher call. While being in charge of the federal government’s accounting services may not look onerous, providing adequate accounting and control of all the Ministries, Extra-ministerial Departments and all arms of government proved challenging.
Her case was however a situation where preparation meets opportunity. She was not only prepared but given her stalling and distinguished intellectual and professional achievements, viewed her appointment as a task from God for humanity and country.
The fact that she is the first woman to attain such lofty office, motivated and made her determined to represent her constituency (the women folk) efficiently and effectively.
Her disposition was therefore that of demonstrated equanimity, compassion, resilience and empathy.
Within a short time, she began to prove her onions, as her devotion, commitment and determination to uphold fiscal transparency in government finance and accountability began to pay off.
In a well-thought-out plan of action, the ardent team player and resourceful advocate of fiscal transparency and responsibility conducted a forensic review of previous financial reforms embarked upon by her predecessors.
The insight gained thereafter enabled her to make hard decisions and also gave her the impetus to make resource-based fresh concepts and tactics for government financial operations and project sustainability as well as benefit delivery.
In a highly meticulous interface with IPPIS Server Providers, she was able to effectively put to rest the nagging challenges mitigating against the payment platform thereby enhancing remarkable improvement not witnessed previously.
Dr. Toyin’s deep insight, knowledge and experience in Fiscal responsibility enhanced the complete review of other financial management policies of government bringing about optimum, measurable and outstanding benefits and functionality.
It can be said that one of her greatest achievements is the demystification of the Federation Accounts and Allocation Committee (FAAC) specifics, especially as it has to do with revenue allocation to the various tiers of government.
While previous AGFs were confronted with subterfuge, Dr Toyin’s impeccable character and strong personality coupled with a firm knowledge of her profession were. Brought to bear on her schedule of duty as she consistently kept Nigerians properly informed about government revenue transactions, and performance relative to revenue inflows at all levels.
Her unwavering conviction that government can only thrive if the citizens are carried along in the management of public funds is not only a landmark, but has led to an enviable demonstration of accountability, transparency, and genuine commitment to serving the interest of not only Nigerians but foreigners, thereby making the populace aware of the inflows and expenditures of government.
This feat has led to immense confidence building and trust in government activities and enabled effective comparison of the revenue collected monthly, juxtaposed with developments on the ground thereby ascertaining compliance and strengthening the overall performance of the government.
Chief Dr. Mrs Oluwatoyin has in several practical ways proved her empathy, forthrightness and clear unambiguous understanding and knowledge of the nexus between government actions and the realities faced by the citizenry and those living in Nigeria.
Her prudent and faithful management of finances has over time proved not unique but innovative, creating synergy, balance and sustainable relationships with all tiers of government and even the international community.
It is necessary to note that this has also significantly reduced the incidences of conflicts and contradictions at FAAC meetings.
Dr. Toyin’s prioritization of prudence, transparency and accountability over even her professional reputation and the maintenance of her statutory obligations has led to the efficient delivery of national interest. It can be said that her major and overarching priority is the welfare of the people of Nigeria.
The detribalized trailblazer, the woman of substance, who has the empathy of a mother, understands the challenges faced by Nigerians as is consistently reflected in her daily activities.
With an efficient and collaborative approach to the fiscal decision-making process, Dr Toyin’s tenure can predictably be adjudged as not only the most distinguished, outstanding and beneficial to Nigerians but also pacesetting, and proactive with demonstrably keen observance of the feelings and interests of average Nigerians.
Her principle of cost-effective alternatives has drastically reduced Nigeria’s financial burden and generated revenue.
When all is said and done one practical area of her greatest achievements will be the stoppage of payments for projects yet to be awarded, this will save in no small measure, the country from huge embarrassment and prevent her from incurring unnecessary interest on funds that are yet to be deployed.
It can be said without contradiction that Chief Dr. Mrs Oluwatoyin Madien through her foresight, a combination of strict adherence To bureaucratic protocols and practices, and a thorough and painstaking assessment of each step taken, to mitigate waste combined with strict adherence to government policies has proved what responsible governance can achieve in a country when you have a round peg in a round hole.
CNS Ogalla and His Exploits on War Against Oil Theft
By Toby Prince
Nigeria’s vast maritime frontier stretches an impressive 84,000 nautical miles, rivalling a third of its landmass. With over 3,000 lakes and rivers, this complex terrain demands bold leadership.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recognised this challenge, appointing Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla as Chief of Naval Staff in June 2023. A seasoned navigator, Ogalla embodies the determination, discipline, and vision needed to harness Nigeria’s maritime potential.
Ogalla took over office on June 23, 2023, with a bold vision to transform Nigeria’s maritime security and blue economy. His comprehensive strategy, the Total Spectrum Maritime Strategy (TSMS), tackles maritime crimes and promotes economic growth.
With his vast knowledge of the maritime domain and tactical operations, Ogalla outlined a detailed agenda to combat maritime crimes and foster the growth and development of the blue economy. This agenda includes the designation of Special Courts for Maritime Crimes, Advocacy Campaigns to enlist community support, and Socioeconomic Crime Prevention Strategies.
The TSMS also focuses on enhancing naval capabilities through fleet renewal, operational readiness, and infrastructural development. Additionally, it prioritizes human capital development through personnel welfare and motivation, manpower training, and youth and sports development.
To ensure effective implementation, Ogalla’s strategy emphasizes maritime stakeholders’ engagement and interagency cooperation. By implementing these measures, the CNS aims to safeguard Nigeria’s maritime interests, promote economic growth, and enhance regional stability.
A strong believer in a highly motivated professional naval force which is capable of shaping the security outcomes within Nigeria’s maritime domain and the littorals, including land-based engagements in fulfilment of national interest, CNS Emmanuel Ogalla also, set in various measures and alternatives aimed at maintaining and equipping a professionally competent and ethical naval force, which will leverage on all the elements of national powers to effectively defend Nigeria’s maritime area against all forms of threat so as to deliver the imperatives of national security.
Consequently, to prove that all these are not about mere sloganeering and banters without effective actions, the CNS carried out various reforms and projects aimed at recapitalizing the Naval ship.
This led to the equipping of the Naval Shipyard Limited, saddled with the responsibility of constructing and fabricating small boats, big vessels and other facilities of the Navy.
This move has in no small measure reduced capital flight and enhanced, as well as encouraged the training and development of skilled manpower.
As part of his commitment and dedication to the welfare of his personnel, Vice Admiral Ogalla on several occasions personally undertook the inspection of his troops for an on-the-spot assessment of their operational readiness.
Those visits also served as a morale booster and helped to motivate the personnel.
His efficiency and effectiveness in the deployment and utilization of the Naval personnel, platforms, helicopters, and UAVs for surveillance and interdiction operations throughout the Niger Delta including the employment of both kinetics and non-kinetic measures have also led to massive and unprecedented breakthroughs and successes being recorded by the Nigeria Navy on the protection of the nation’s territorial waters, such that massive quantities of stolen products were recovered, with the dismantling of illegal refining sites, arrest of suspects, seizure of stolen products, and the disruption of oil thieves and vandals.
Consequently, with three months of intense operation of Operation DELTA SANITY; which is his brainchild, the Nigeria Navy recorded the seizure of 95 wooden boats, deactivated 119 storage tank refining ovens, and the deactivation of 447 dugout pits. The Navy also deactivated 120 illegal refining sites and sized 13 fibre boats.
Other achievements and successes recorded include the seizure of 9 vehicles and the arrest of 14 vessels and 74 criminal suspects.
Some of the arrested vessels include MT KALI, MT HABOUR SPIRIT, MT SAISNIL, MV TOKITO, MT VINILLARIS, and MT SWEET MIRI.
It is instrumental to note that, these operations have consequentially impacted climate change in the mitigation of hazardous air pollution and the curbing of sooth.
Through a policy of effective and deliberate human capacity development, as an ingredient for a highly professional and motivated workforce, he has entrenched a highly motivated professional and ethical naval force with a formidable capacity and the required competencies to defend the Country’s maritime space against threats of any kind.
A strong believer in collaboration as a key to success and sustainability, the CNS partners with agencies such as NIMASA, NPA, NDLEA, NOSDRA, and NEMA, as well as many foreign partners, including holding Bilateral meetings and talks with the American chief of Naval Service, Operation (CNO).
This extensive work has brought about trust, confidence building, synergy and operational successes. The Total Spectrum Strategy has led to the Zero Piracy Rating Status of Nigeria by the International Maritime Bureau.
Through his commitment to the ideals of the Tinubu Presidency, the Nigerian Navy has supported land operations in all the geopolitical zones of the country, winning the war against evil and ensuring a crime-free Nigeria.
The Nigeria Navy under his watch, through the strategy of Maritime Domain Awareness Capacity, not only ensured the compliance of its personnel to civility, and activated deterrent measures to curb negligence and unprofessional conduct of personnel but also provided all year-round situation awareness of Nigeria’s maritime domain extending to the limits of the Exclusive Economic Zone.
Through the use of its Maritime Domain Awareness Facilities, the Navy has enhanced early detection and swift response to incidences within the maritime environment.
With the capitalization of 2 XSeaward Defense Boats (SDB); constructed locally, the various Platforms, thereby ensuring and supporting its anti-piracy, anti-CoT, anti-IUU and anti-illegal drugs, combined with the acquisition of 2nd Offshore Survey Vessels, 2 by 32m FPBs and helicopters (NNS CHALAWA, P196-Seaward Defense Boat, NNS ZUR P195 – Seaward Defense Boat and NNS OCHUZOR Survey Vessels and the delivery of 2 by 76m OPVs from Turkey, the Nigeria Navy remains the most dominant in the Gulf of Guinea (GoG) and the 4th largest in Africa.
Presently, under Vice Admiral Ogalla, the Nigerian Navy has over 50 capital ships and several hundreds of boats to cover the maritime space and internal waters. While the capital ships are used to patrol the sea, the small vessels carry out routine patrols also.
His non-kinetic approach has brokered several peace initiatives amongst communities and deepened community-military harmony within Nigeria’s Oil/Gas littoral area.
Not leaving out the welfare of the personnel, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, has also demonstrated leadership and empathy by ensuring the construction of 50 units of 3 bedrooms, 128 units of 2 bedrooms and 120 units of 2 bedrooms apartments in Galadimawa, Asokoro Abuja, Lagos, Calabar and Port-Harcourt.
With an eye on sustainability, intellectual development and research, the Chief of Naval Staff on the 1st of June, 2024 launched the International Maritime Institute (IMION), an institution which will serve as a confluence for maritime discourse, the scintillation of ideas, and a vehicle for the articulation of maritime strategy on the African Continent.
With the launch of this crowning glory, the CNS intends to decimate, with a single shot, an institution which will also serve as a think-tank for maritime strategic thinkers, practitioners and allies with a far-reaching benefit of enhancing effective interaction, idea sharing and research into maritime strategic affairs affecting not only the Gulf of Guinea but the rest of the world, in such thematic areas as, maritime and ocean governance, maritime security, law enforcement, hydrography, blue economy, and climate change amongst others.
Under Ogalla’s visionary leadership, Nigeria’s war against oil theft has witnessed unprecedented success. His bold strategies, collaborative approach, and commitment to personnel welfare have transformed the Nigerian Navy into a formidable force. The Total Spectrum Maritime Strategy has yielded remarkable results, significantly boosting national security and contributing to global maritime stability. Ogalla’s efforts have solidified his legacy as a champion of maritime security and economic growth, earning the confidence of Nigerians and international partners alike.
Rt. Hon. Olufemi Gbajabiamila’s loyalty finds its perfect echo in a timeless biblical truth: a man cannot serve two masters. This dedication, driven by principle rather than personal gain, stands as a testament to his strong character. Inspired by the unyielding devotion of biblical figures, Gbajabiamila’s commitment shines brightly. His steadfast resolve and faithfulness make him a pillar of reliability.
In a world where loyalty is often tested, Gbajabiamila’s exemplary service sets a shining standard. Guided by faith and conviction, his selfless dedication inspires hope. The real Rt. Hon. Gbaja, as he is fondly called by close associates, can hardly be divorced from his loyalty to President Asiwaju.
While there exist several writings about the quintessential Rt. Hon. GBAJABIAMILA, writing about his loyalty to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is particularly difficult and different, as it is not easy to attribute the brand of loyalty – short of senile attachment, not sycophancy, and not foolishness.
The difficulty in conjuring Rt. Hon. Femi’s loyalty to writing stems from the fact that it is very hard to find and convey its abstract aura experience to reality. It defies diction and description because it is deeper than words, yet it cannot be kept silent.
For over three decades, Gbajamialia’s love and unwavering loyalty existed in a rarefied set apart from such infractions as desperation, self-seeking, selfishness, self-glorification, self-preservation, and ego branding. Tradition and reverence have surrounded loyalty with an aura of ‘specialness.’ It has been given distinction, which is still continually encapsulated by specialists in the act of language and psychology.
Unfortunately, the kind of loyalty epitomized by Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila defies all forms of specialist technical language, as it is inaccessible and off-putting, elitist and preserved. It is loyalty ingenue; Chief Femi perceives loyalty as an action from the heart. Although it may sound fey or simplistic, it represents the whole gamut of Gbajabiamil’s entire life, emotions, and experience; loyalty for him is an engagement.
Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila Olufemi is loyal without excuses. He believes that to be successful in life, the most critical ingredient is loyalty. To the political juggernaut, loyalty keeps all relationships going and is exhibited from the beginning to the end. In life and more aptly, in the political world, there is a clarion call for loyalty, total loyalty, absolute and unequivocal. Trust in the ability of another to lead in the right direction brings about the fulfilment of life’s purpose.
Born on June 25, 1962, to the family of Chief Lateef Gbajabiamila in Lagos State, Olufemi Hakeem Gbajabiamila started his political life with his involvement in the election which saw Bill Campbell winning the Mayor of Atlanta. It can therefore be said that he started his political kindergarten from the founders and custodians of our democracy.
Upon Barrister Femi’s return to Nigeria in 2002, he joined the Alliance for Democracy (AD), to further ventilate his political aspirations. It was here that he met his protégé, mentor, and political associate, President Bola Ahmed Asiwaju Tinubu, GCFR, but then the Governor of Lagos State and leader of the Party. His dogged and unpretentious views and loyalty soon won the heart of Governor Bola Tinubu and also the minds and hearts of the people of Surulere 1, who pressured him into contesting for the post of House of Representatives representing Surulere 1 in 2003.
A philanthropist per excellent and defender of democracy, Chief Femi’s commitment to the electorates and loyalty to his Mentor saw his reelection thereafter for six consecutive terms without switching political parties. His firm stand and commitment to the Tinubu Political Ideology saw him and other lieutenants through the turbulent days of President Obasanjo’s Territorial acquisition for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
A vibrant, brilliant, and competent legislator, Chief Femi collaborated with others on President Tinubu’s team, consistently forming a formidable team. As core loyalists and ardent followers, wherever their masters went, they did. From Alliance for Democracy (AD) to Action Congress (AC), then All Progressives Congress, Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila never shirked nor deterred, neither was his loyalty questionable.
A true manager of human and material resources, through an unequal act of selflessness and conscientiousness executive-legislative harmony, he was able to both win the .hearts and minds of his colleagues, maintain the independence of the Legislative Arm, and remain the eyes and ears of President Tinubu. Even as a Minority Leader and later Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Chief Gbajabiamila’s towering influence, growth, and political clout never diminished his loyalty, unflinching support, and dependence on his mentor but kept him on course, maintaining commitment to the political kingdom.
He strongly believes in the sacrifice Asiwaju has made for humanity and Nigeria and is therefore committed to following him through thick and thin. He cultivated Asiwaju’s friends and made his connections his pillar of strength and reliance, thereby remaining always an effective opposition, a chip off the old block, ideal characteristics of Bola Asiwaju Tinubu. He rejected honours and laurels that did not commit to the vision and ideals of Tinubu.
If Chief Gbajabiamila is a nationalist, it is because he learnt from Tinubu that it was the only way to Nigeria’s freedom. His passion for public service was inherited from his mentor. He drank and ate the Asiwaju’s spirit of nationalism and collective struggle. It is imbued, undisputable, irremovable, and unshaken, as his world revolves around it, undeterred and unmitigated. His unconditional loyalty and sacrifices are evident and unquestionably irrevocable.
Again, loyalty has paid. Surely loyalty has opened doors for him that arrogance will not have opened, bringing in love, reciprocal and mutual respect, progress, and the heart of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. On June 14, 2023, Rt. Hon. Olufemi Hakeem Gbajabiamila resumed duty as the Chief of Staff to the President.
A position of honour, trust, and reward of untiring and unequivocal thirty years of loyalty. Together, Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila has built national bridges, defended the President, and ensured that humanity benefits from Asiwaju’s administration. Together, he asks questions, makes opinions known on issues of national development and social justice, and challenges authorities without a witch-hunt, all to improve the process of governance and ensure a better and more functional Nigeria.
Undoubtedly, Gbaja has proved unequivocally, in many deliberate, forthright, and demonstrated ways, that he loves Nigeria just like the President loves Nigeria, and that he is committed to building the nation and the President.

Hon. Anthony Ojo’s Medical Outreach in Ewhohimi, Edo Central attracts stakeholders’ attention
The people of Ewhohimi in Edo Central Senatorial District, Edo State have applauded Senatorial contestant, Hon. Anthony Ojo for his impressive free medical outreach.
During the outreach which was held recently, participants had free tests on Blood Pressure, sugar level and others, and also received free drugs from the medical experts who were on ground.
According to Hon Ojo, since he and Senator Okpebholo share the same political ideology and dream, the free medical outreach is part of his own way of contributing to the governor-elect’s agenda for the people of Edo.

Jubilation in Sokoto as Bandits’ Nemesis Matawalle Arrives to Encourage Troops on War
Sokoto residents erupted in jubilation on Wednesday as Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, arrived in the state to rally troops in the fight against banditry.
Matawalle’s visit is part of the federal government’s efforts to restore peace and security in the North West Zone, which has been plagued by banditry.
“I’m thrilled to see Matawalle here,” said Usman Usman, a local resident. “He’s a beacon of hope for us, and his presence gives us confidence that the government is committed to ending this menace.”
Matawalle’s reputation as a bandits’ nemesis has preceded him, with many residents praising his efforts to tackle insecurity in the region.
“Matawalle is a tested, trusted, and reliable leader,” said Umar Ibrahim, a Sokoto resident. “We believe in him, and we know he’ll do everything possible to protect us.”
Notably, Matawalle’s last visit to the northwest led to the death of notorious bandit kingpin Halilu Sububu. This significant breakthrough is a testament to the Minister’s commitment to eradicating banditry.
According to Shehu Mohammed, “President Tinubu and Matawalle’s collaborative efforts have yielded notable successes.
“With Matawalle here, we feel safer, and we know that help is on the way.”
Meanwhile in a statement on Tuesday by Henshaw Ogubike, director of information and public relations at the ministry, Matawalle said his arrival in the state spells doom for bandits and their supporters.
“As directed by Mr. President, I am back to Sokoto state to assure the people of this great region of our commitment to achieving all necessary yardsticks in the fight against insecurity,” he said.
“We will never leave you alone. I assure you, we will win this war against bandits and those supporting them to unleash terror against our people.
“We must collaborate with all stakeholders in this region to achieve our target. The federal government will continue to boost the morale of our soldiers and security agencies in this fight.”
The minister expressed his confidence in the ongoing military operation in the northwest zone.
“I am optimistic that our gallant troops will continue to record successes through Operation Fansan Yamma as we intensify our fight against these criminals,” he said.
Matawalle vowed to “relentlessly” fight bandits and their supporters, adding that the Tinubu administration will continue to prioritise the protection of lives and property.
