Bayelsa to include French and Chinese Language in New School Curriculum
The Bayelsa State Government has said it is working on plans to make the teaching and learning of the Ijaw, French and Chinese languages as well as science and mathematics a priority in public schools in the state.
It stated that the essence of emphasising the teaching of the three languages, and the core science subjects, including mathematics, was to prepare and equip children to take full advantage of career opportunities in those subjects.
The Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, disclosed this during a courtesy visit by the state chapter of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria in Government House in Yenagoa.
He explained in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr Doubara Atasi, on Thursday, that the growing economic influence of China in global affairs as a major state actor in world trade and commerce, justified the inclusion of Chinese as a subject in the school curriculum.
While responding to issues raised by APWEN, Ewhrudjakpo said, “I am happy about the programme you are introducing. For us, we have made it compulsory; we are pursuing STEM because we believe that with that, the negative impression of Bayelsa State would change sooner or later.
“We will really be available for anything you want us to do from the government angle. As I told you earlier, in our teachers’ recruitment we deliberately laid emphasis on science, ICT and mathematics.
He charged the members of APWEN to make teamwork their watchword to achieve their objectives as a professional body, and also include male students in their programmes.
Ewhrudjakpo pointed out that the engineering career requires a lot of hard work for one to be awarded a fellowship, urging the association to work together in closer synergy to gain more visibility in the male-dominated profession.
Earlier in their separate remarks, the state chairman of APWEN, Diepreye Owana-Omubo, and the vice-chairman, Ann Obuebite, said the association was doing everything to push its corporate social responsibility project aimed at introducing the girl-child to engineering at the basic education level.
The high point of the visit was the presentation of two special awards to the deputy governor by APWEN.
US Court Slams $50,000 on Blogger for Defaming MFM’s Dr. Olukoya
A Baltimore County Circuit Court in the United States of America presided over by Theresa Adams, has slammed a record $50,000 damages on a US-based Nigerian blogger, Funke Ashekun, for defaming the General Overseer, Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), Dr Daniel Olukoya.
A statement on Thursday by Olukoya’s media aide, Collins Edomaruse, said the jury found that the postings of Ashekun defamed the MFM and portrayed its pastors in a false light.
Delivering its judgment in the matter with Case Number: C-03-CV-22-004424, the court returned a unanimous verdict in favour of MFM USA and its three pastors, Grace Ugeh, Kunle Ladipo and Adekunle Adekola.
According to the MFM, Ashekun, who recently relocated to the United States, “has been on social media, spreading all manners of falsehoods against the MFM Church and its General Overseer with the sole purpose of tarnishing and damaging the reputation of the respected man of God and that of his ministry.”
Reacting to the lawsuit filed against her, the YouTuber, in a video she posted to her YouTube channel on November 28, 2023, said MFM and three of its US-based pastors filed a suit against her and accused her of defaming their General Overseer.
“I am now able to confirm to you and to formally do so now that I, Funke Ashekun, have been sued by a church in America. I want you to know I’ve been sued by a church in America. I’m also able to confirm that the name of the church that has taken me to court in America is Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, America.
“I am also able to confirm to you that I don’t know them, the plaintiffs in the lawsuit. Imagine, people that I don’t know are suing me. What an Irony!
“The first one is Adekunle Adekola. He’s a pastor in Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, Rockville, Maryland. The second person is Kunle Ladipo. He is also a pastor in Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, Bowie, Maryland. And the third person is a woman, I am surprised. She is Grace Ugeh. She is also a pastor in Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries in California; one of their branches.
“Somebody even came from California to sue me in Maryland. These are people I don’t know. I have never been to their church here in America since we relocated. I saw two of them in court recently. But I don’t think I will still recognise them if I meet two of them on the way. I am surprised how a woman will come after me for speaking against sexual assault on women,” she said.
Ashekun added that she was shocked about the lawsuit, stressing that she did not mention the name of any church or pastor in particular in any of her posts.
“I am talking about Pharaohs of our country. People that are supposed to be men of God; that people call men of God and reverence. I am talking about things going on in our churches, that there are sexual abuses going on in our churches. Women are becoming depressed. Some of them are becoming suicidal. They are being sexually molested seriously. And then a woman would come after me and take me to court for talking.
“I, also want to let you know that I, Olufunke Ashekun, am the respondent in this lawsuit in my personal capacity and to the exclusion of no other. These three people, they came after me. In fact, they came with two different lawsuits.
“One thing still shocks me, still baffles me that since I have started this programme, I have never mentioned the name of any church. When I talk about Pharaohs destroying women, destroying men, torturing, oppressing, sexually molesting women, young girls, even in the toilet, in church, inside what is supposed to be a sanctuary of God. Since I’ve started, I’ve never mentioned any church doing that.
“I’ve never mentioned the name of any pastor or any General Overseer. I have been talking about Pharaohs. Pharaoh is a Biblical name. We all know Pharaoh to be an oppressor of God’s children. It is a satirical name that I formed for this programme to pass all my messages because we need to speak out. We can’t keep quiet and allow these people to go on in our society,” she said.
Reacting to the judgment, the MFM lead counsel, Gilbert Garcia, said the “Church was gratified that the jury found in favor and vindicated our position,” according to the statement.

Prophets Who Predicts Sports are Charlatans who Works for Money and Fame – Prophet Ezekiel Odedoyin
He can be likened to Biblical Prophet Micaiah that is brutally truthful to other supposed leading prophets like Prophet Zedekiah and those in power like King Ahab, Prophet Ezekiel Olawunmi Odedoyin is a voice to be reason with in this generation. The fiery prophet who is one of the very few who had seen the result of the 2023 Presidential elections before it was held and has made such known through his church, Christ for All Souls Ministry Facebook page, recently have a chat with the members of the press in the Church new headquarters in Lagos.
It is a known fact that the prophet, though having a church branch in Lagos has been operating from Osogbo the capital of Osun State, answering questions for the journalists on the reason he waited this long before moving the International Headquarters to Lagos Prophet Odedoyin explained that the church don’t make any move except it was sanctioned by God, giving examples of when the Church was operating from Modakeke town in Osun State, and it took the instruction of God before they could move to Osogbo and the current decision was only taken after God sanctioned it since the church is God’s.
When asked about the current African Nation’s Cup (AFCON) the prophets responded that sport predictions is for charlatans and that it is not that God don’t reveal things like that to his own, but the main aim of prophesy is for sometimes repentance, correction and preparation and those who are predicting sports are doing it for money and fame which will make them loose the purpose of their gift.
Speaking further about the new International Headquarters Prophet Odedoyin explained that the church is tagged “Solution Center” because God promised that people will be there to receive solutions to all problems. On the several issues facing the church about fake miracles, the prophets is of the believe that healings comes from God and it is only God that heals and that his ministry don’t ask people to pay any sort of amount for the cause of receiving healing from God and is thereby not afraid of being called a fraud.
Explaining that while many had received healing from God through his ministration, there are situations in the past also that he prayed for people and nothing happens, saying he’s just a vessel God uses and nobody can question him if God chooses not to move. The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) graduate of Economics explained that the Ikotun area based new church is opened 24 hours a day to all forms of people from different works of life the get solutions to any issues facing them.

NNPCL Recorded N2.5 trillion Profit in 2022 Unaudited, Report Highest in 45 years
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced its highest profit in 45 years, recording N2.548 trillion for the year 2022.
The national oil company, in its 2022 Financial Performance Report published online, emphasized that the profit recorded was the highest since its founding in 1977.
Breakdown of the Financial Report
According to the financial report, losses amounted to N803 billion in 2018 and increased to N1.7 billion in 2019.
In 2020, the report highlights a profit of N287 billion, denoted as the ‘Turning Point,’ and in 2021, the company’s profit grew to N674.1 billion, named ‘Assurance.’
According to the report, the profit continued its upward trend, reaching N2.548 trillion in 2022.
In October alone, a few months after the removal of the subsidy, the Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, Mele Kyari, said the company remitted N4.5 trillion as revenue to the federation account in October.
He made this disclosure while appearing before the Senate Committee on Finance to defend the company’s budget for the 2024 fiscal year.
“I am glad to inform you, Mr. Chairman and distinguished senators that as of October we can deliver N4.5 trillion into the federation account as a company to this country In 2023,” Mr Kyari said.
Meanwhile, NNPCL is yet to be audited by an independent financial auditing firm, as demanded by most stakeholders in the industry.
Oil Theft as Impediments for Growth
In addition, the national oil company still battles with myriads of oil theft incidents across the country, thus impeding the growth and revenue potential of the sector at large
For instance, last week, authorities reported the discovery and destruction of 52 illegal refineries in Abia, Imo, Rivers, and Bayelsa states. Additionally, 32 illegal connections were uncovered in various locations across the Niger Delta.
NNPC Ltd also announced that it had between December 30, 2023, and January 5, 2024, recorded 157 incidents of crude oil theft from seven incident sources and arrested 17 suspects.
However, the company affirmed its unwavering commitment to eliminate the oil theft menace, emphasizing that there would be no retreat until it was completely eradicated.
What you should know
The NNPCL has faced criticism from industry participants and stakeholders for its failure to disclose financial performance for public scrutiny.
In its 46-year history, the NNPC opened its books for the fourth consecutive time during the 2021 financial year.
Meanwhile, in November, NNPCL forecasted a revenue increase to N4.5 trillion by the end of 2023, citing the commencement of operations at the Port Harcourt Refining Company.
Testimony Jaga: Winning Souls for God with Music, Charity
As far as gospel music goes, Testimony Jaga, one of that genre’s contemporary torchbearers, is a non-conformist. All over the world, gospel music is about the pure and the holy, sublime, soothing, spiritual, and soul-stirring. But away from the old, predictable style of gospel music, Jaga has taken the road never travelled to be the purveyor of feel-good and spirit-filled gospel music while imprinting his name in the sands of time.
A multiple-awards winning singer, instrumentalist, and producer, Jaga’s infusion of Fuji, otherwise considered backstreet music, to his craft caught on like wildfire and has turned him into a bona fide music star with a rich repertoire including the very popular ‘Biggie Biggie,’ ‘Not Normal ft Akpororo,’ ‘My Style,’ ‘My Evidence ft Frank Edwards,’ and ‘Power in my praise’ among many others.
The Ogun State native whose real name is Salau Aliu describes his style of music as Fuji-pop. His debut Extended Play record titled ‘Jesus is Here, Jaga is Here,’ is a seven-tracker that underscores his versatility as he seamlessly blended Fuji, afro beats, R n B, highlife, and dancehall to give Christendom an invaluable musical gift. The EP, a reflection of his life’s journey delivered via uplifting lyrics, features collaborations with other gospel singers like Adeyinka Alaseyori, Henrisoul, and Neon Adejo.
Finding Christ at a most vulnerable time in his life, Jaga, a street-savvy boxing buff, has now gone back to the streets but this time as the founder of Street Gospel Movement, an evangelical outreach that employs the twin forces of music and social welfare to win souls for God. According to him, so much is hidden in poverty and that for any man to even want to listen to the gospel; he must have quenched raging hunger.
Also, the convener of the One Jesus, One Church, One Hallelujah, Jaga, a protégé of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome of Christ Embassy, had been stomping Lagos streets under the auspices of what he terms Radical Prayer through which he reaches out to the unemployed, youths, and widows. Jaga added, “I am passionate about impacting the lives of as many people as possible. The essence of Christianity is actually to spread love, which are the principles I live by. Spreading the gospel to the streets and the ‘unchurched’ (people who don’t attend churches) through my Street Gospel Movement.”
Jaga said he is motivated to do all that he does because he is a product of the streets and had experienced bare-faced poverty growing up. “When people come to our program, we feed them with soul-lifting music, the word of God, and empower them. I believe in making an impact in people’s lives. So far, we have reached out to over 20,000 people since we started. Apart from giving out interest-free cash grants ranging from N100,000 to N250,000, we have given out cars, tricycles, and mini-buses among others,” he said.
Last Christmas, with support from Pastor Oyakhilome, Jaga gifted food items including rice, eggs, and chickens to hundreds of Lagos residents. On January 12, 2024, he will hold his annual mega outreach in the Alagbado area of Lagos, and he said there would be so much more to empower people with while encouraging them to accept Jesus as their Lord and saviour.
