The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Kayanmata

Recently there have been a clash between popular nollywood actress, Regina Daniels, and aphrodisiac specialist Jaruma.
The clash broke out, when Regina Daniels publicly announced on her instagram page, that she has never, and will never use the Kayamata products by Jaruma, which she once promoted, and advertised on her page. She refuted claims made by some people, that she used the Kayamata products to trap her billionaire husband, Ned Nwoko.

Now this brings us to the question;

What is Kayanmata?

Kayanmata is an aphrodisiac, a natural herb, which helps in enhancing intimacy. It originated from the Northern part of Nigeria, which literally means a woman’s property. “Kaya” means property, while “Mata” means woman.

It is also referred to as “Maza” in the male circus. These Kanyamata comes in different forms, such as; perfumes, tablets, scrabs, ditches, ointments, concoctions, waist beads, and herbs, etc.

Ingredients/Composition

The kayan mata herbs constitute of various components ranging from sweetener powders, zuman mata/maza, sweets(women), lubricants etc.

The ingredients have evolved over the years, but typically, the products have a base of honey, tiger nuts, camel’s milk, millet, herbs and roots.

In this article I will be sharing some benefits, and side effects of the popular Kayanmata

The Benefits

1. It aids fertility: Kayanmata has been said to aid fertility in women.

2. It helps bring back lost excitement among couples, during intimacy.

3. This product has also be known to be effective in treating common sexually related issues such as vaginal dryness, low libido, or lack of sexual satisfaction caused by circumcision.

4. Nutritional value: some of the ingredients used in the preparation of Kayanmata has very good nutritional purpose, for example the Tiger nut milk (Kunun Aya), has many health benefits, such as it’s richness in amino acids, etc. Goron tula also one of the ingredients used in making Kayanmata also has nutritional and health values.

5. It also prevents premature ejaculation in men.

The Side effects

1. Infection: there are many dangers associated with the new form of Kayanmata, and a lot of women do not seem to pay attention to them. Anything that has to be inserted or clipped is discouraged as they can tear the cervical tissues or risk cervical cancer for the woman. Inserting substances containing high levels of sugar can also lead to yeast infections and increase the risk of the presence of cancerous cells over a prolonged period of time.

2. It’s believed that some of the Kayanmata vendors are now producing unadulterated ones, by mixing harmful substances with the concoctions and their unsuspecting customers are left to their mercy to ingest such harmful materials which will later impair them health-wise. And with the toxic chemicals and heavy metals they contain, such can damage their liver and as well as cause kidney failure especially when they react with other drugs in the body.

3. Men are not left out of this iniquitous practice, as they also use some of these as stimulants and libido boosters but sadly, Maza also makes them cancer-prone. Prostate hyperplasia and prostate cancer are some diseases they can as well subject themselves to, due to the prolonged usage of these intimacy enhancers.

Nevertheless, a research recently carried out reveals these intimacy enhancers have been drastically misused by their users, hence their abuse, with some vendors mixing other products to them to boost their potency, with utter neglect of the harms they could cause.

Most of these herbal medicines used in the treatment of sexual dysfunctions harbour harmful pathogenic and non-pathogenic bacteria. The laboratory analysis of some of the herbs come out to show that they can harbour an appreciable amount of bacteria. Interestingly, a host of people do not even bother to wash the wild fruits before being consumed, a situation which raises concerns in our society.

Eminent personalities from all walks of life, on Friday 22nd October, 2021, converged in Lagos, for the burial ceremony of Mrs. Joanna Tokunbo, the grandmother of Abiodun Coker, a journalist, public relations expert and core member of the media relations department of United Bank for Africa (UBA).

The late matriarch slept in the lord on September 23, 2021 at the age of 87.

The three days event kicked off with a Christian Wake Keep on Tuesday, 19th of October, Service of Songs on Wednesday, October 20 which was followed by a requiem mass and interment on Friday 23rd at Ikoyi Cemetery.

The memorable Requiem Mass was held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Lafiaji on Friday, October 22, and was attended by family and friends of the deceased who came out in their numbers to pay their last respect.

The event climaxed with an elaborate shindig which saw guests being entertained at NAF Base, Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

In his tribute, Coker extolled the virtues of his late grandmum, describing her as compassionate and an epitome of love that cared for all. He said Mama’s humility and selfless service to God and humanity were second to none.

According to him: “My special Grandmother, may you rest in the bosom of the lord till we see to part no more.

“These words felt like a dagger to the chest, knowing that you are gone. But I know you will never be forgotten. I know for a fact that I will never forget you and how much you’ve impacted my life. Not only that, but also the lives of every single person you came across. I know for a fact that you touched many lives. Little wonder you were adored so much and I know that they will all miss you to bits.

“You truly were a special, special woman! You may have passed on, but your memories are etched in my heart. In there you will always live on.

“As I write this piece, I do it with a lot of struggle. Losing you on that 23rd of September brought a pain that cut so deep! Thank you for your sacrifices, your care and concern, your love, compassion and everything that you have done for me. Wherever you are. I look back to when I was so little when you put me on your back to pound Jero while mum was at work and also attended to the neighbours who depended on you for so much because they were not lettered.

“You worked so hard and multi-tasked, doing so much at once yet perfectly, helping others. You were more like a rallying point for all the neighbours who all came to you for help, support and guidance. I guess it’s from you and Papa that my Mum and we the children learnt how to be passionate and dedicated to any course we embarked upon.

“You loved your children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren unconditionally. You were truly an epitome of love and taught us all how to effortlessly stand by others genuinely and selflessly. l am proud to have had you as my grandmother. Mama General, I will miss you sorely! I know it is important to be strong for others so as to advance your wonderful legacy.

“When I summoned up the courage to tell Fadekemi about your passing, after she asked about you repeatedly, I was shocked when she hugged me and said, I know my great grandma is resting in Heaven and GOD will look after her. Without a doubt, I know an angel spoke through her and I am certain that indeed you accomplished all that God sent you here to do and he has called you to be with Him.

“I am consoled by the fact that you are in a much better place!

“Love you Mama General. You truly were a treasure to all of us,” He penned.

The late Mrs. Tokunbo was born on 31st August, 1934

Drama As New Born Baby Found Alive 24hrs After Mother Buried Her

A baby girl who was put into a suitcase and buried has been found alive 24hrs later.
The baby was buried in Tsomo in the Eastern Cape, South Africa by her 34-year-old mother, Lindiswa Ntalo.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu said that it was alleged that in the early hours of Monday morning 11th October, 2021 Ntalo had given birth to a baby girl.

She went ahead to reveal that Ntalo put the baby in a suitcase and buried her. The chief of the community subsequently alerted the police after he noticed that the woman was pregnant and no longer pregnant and there was no child to show for it.

The police went to xolobe and discovered there was a fresh grave in the yard, they dug it up and discovered a baby wrapped in a blanket in a suitcase still alive.

Amazizi traditional council head, Nkosi JongisizweNgcongolo who reported the case said the situation was quite shocking.

He said: “This is shocking. This is the same woman who buried her baby alive for 24 hours and tried numerous times to perform an abortion.

“She told the community and her relatives that she wanted to get rid of the pregnancy and the baby. Is this not making a mockery of justice? How can the police and NPA explain that? Why are they not charging her for attempted murder? We are disappointed. The baby could have died. It is a miracle that she was found alive.

Oyo Tragedy: Alaafin Visits Tree Which ‘Fell And Rose Again’ After Killing Four People

Oyo Tragedy: Alaafin Visits Tree Which ‘Fell And Rose Again’ After Killing Four People

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, has been troubled to visit the scene where a tree had fallen and rose again in Oyo town.
According to reports, the tree which is popularly called Igi Odan trapped at least four people on Monday night. However, while residents were still mourning their beloved ones, the tree reportedly rose up before sunset the following morning.

Moreover the tree has been at the location for over 100 years now. It came as a shock to residents to have seen the fallen tree whose branches had been already been hewn mysteriously back up on Tuesday.

Sources had told The Punch that the Odan tree was uprooted by the wind during the downpour on Monday night. They were, however, left in shock seeing that the fallen tree is now back standing firmly rooted to the ground where it was uprooted from a day earlier.

In photos and videos which were circulated online, the root of the tree was seen uprooted from the ground and the trunk was lying on the ground. The branches were later cut off but the second series of photos and videos show that the tree had been rooted back to the ground but there were no leaves on it and the branches which had been cut off did not join to the trunk.

The development prompted the Alaafin of Oyo to visit the scene and commiserate with the families of the people killed by the tree earlier.

The monarch’s media aide, Bode Durojaye, when contacted on the phone said Oba Adeyemi had visited the scene to commiserate with the bereaved families and to see the mystery.

He said, “He went there. The fallen tree rose back again mysteriously. Kabiyesi commiserated with the people there over the sad incident.”

On his account when interrogated, the Chairman of the Sabo Market where the incident happened, Akeebu Alarape, said four different loggers invited to cut the tree did not succeed until a fifth logger was able to cut parts of it before the rescue operation could begin.

The Head of Operations of the Western Nigeria Security Network, aka Amotekun Corps, in the Atiba area, Akeem Ojo, said the tree fell on the victims who were mostly traders at around 6 pm.

“A female student of the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo; a woman with a baby strapped to her back and a boy she was holding, were pulled out from under the tree.

“One person was seriously injured and taken to a private hospital in the area, while motorcycle and minibus parks under the tree were damaged,” Ojo added.

Tying of legs after snakebite wrong, fuelling amputations, deaths – Experts

Tying of legs after snakebite wrong, fuelling amputations, deaths – Experts

Health experts have cautioned Nigerians against the practice of tying the legs of victims of snakebite with a cloth to stop the movement of the snake venom.

According to the experts, the practice and other crude management of snakebite are fuelling avoidable mortality and morbidity.

The call by the medical experts is coming after the Federal Government called for renewed vigour among stakeholders in snakebite management

One major harmful practice of snakebite management that should be discouraged, according to the experts, is the tying of the leg of victims after snakebite.

They stressed that the practice is fuelling cases of limb amputation.

According to them, victims of snakebite should rather immediately call for help and ensure they are taken to good health facilities for appropriate treatment.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with PUNCH HealthWise, a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos, Dr. Bright Igbinoba, said there are things that were done in the past when a person was bitten by a snake that are being discouraged nowadays.

Igbinoba said it is also important to quickly rush a person bitten by a snake to the hospital to avoid orthopaedic effects that could lead to complications and amputation of the limb.

The orthopaedic surgeon explained, “The first thing that should not be done after a person is bitten by a snake is tying something tight around the limb.

“Normally, once a person is bitten by a snake, the limb is swollen. So, as you tie it, it becomes more swollen and blood will not flow into the limb and the limb will die. And once the limb is dead, it will need an amputation.

“Before, if a person has a snake bite, they will ask him or her to tear a piece of clothing and tie the leg. Tying that piece of clothing on the leg has been found to increase the risk of amputation.

“Again, the practice of cutting the bite mark of a snake with a razor blade should be discouraged. It has been found to introduce infection.

“Also, the practice of sucking the venom by mouth is also discouraged. It doesn’t really help because the venom can enter the mouth of the person trying to suck it.

“The use of cold compress is also discouraged.”

Igbinoba noted that snakebite might not lead to death or amputation if people get help on time and seek appropriate treatment.

According to the World Health Organisation, snakebite is a neglected public health issue in many tropical and subtropical countries.

The United Nations health agency says about 5.4 million snakebites occur each year, resulting in 1.8 to 2.7 million cases of envenoming (poisoning from snakebite).

“There are between 81, 410 and 137, 880 deaths and around three times as many amputations and other permanent disabilities each year,” WHO says.

Recalled that the Minister of State for Health, Dr.OlorunnimbeMamora, had recently said Nigeria records an average of 15,000 to 20,000 cases of snakebites every year.

Quoting a recent survey, Mamora said snakebites in the country occurred at 479 cases per 100,000 people.

The minister had said, “Nigeria records an average of 15,000 to 20,000 cases of snakebite every year, with about 2,000 people killed and between 1,700 and 2,000 people whose legs or arms are amputated to save their lives after snakebite.

“States with the most cases of snakebite in the country are Gombe, Plateau, Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Nasarawa, Enugu, Kogi, Kebbi, Oyo, Benue and Taraba.”

He called for renewed vigour to ensure strong partnerships among member states, development partners, donors and other stakeholders for snakebite management.

Giving insight into snake venoms and their complications, Igbinoba said, “We have the ones that destroy the blood and are very toxic to the blood. Those ones are called the haemotoxins venom or snakebite.

“Snakes with this type of venom, once they bite a person, their venom enters the bloodstream and starts destroying the blood. And the person will start bleeding from the snakebite and can bleed into the internal organs and die from there.

“Then you have the neurotoxic venom. The ones take over the nerves of the body and weaken the person and the person cannot move again.

“The venom will completely take over the person’s nervous system. The last type of venom is necrotizing fasciitis. Now, what do snakes do when they bite an animal or prey, the venoms contain enzymes and so as they inject it into a person’s body, the body starts digesting.

“That digestion, what it does is to kill the cells. And that is what causes the limb to start getting rotten.

“It causes it to have a big wound and swell,” he explained.

The physician advised that people should avoid drugs not prescribed by experts when they are bitten by a snake.

“People should immediately call for help once they are bitten by a snake.

The person should be quickly rushed to the hospital.

“The person should try and know the type of snake so that we will be able to know the type of venom that the snake has.

“It is also important to note the time of the bite so that we can plan and know the speed at which to attend to the patient”, the surgeon counselled.

WHO further says most of the deaths from snakebite occur in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

“In Asia, up to 2 million people are envenomed by snakes each year, while in Africa there are an estimated 435 000 to 580 000 snakebites annually that need treatment.

“Bites by venomous snakes can cause acute medical emergencies involving severe paralysis that may prevent breathing, cause bleeding disorders that can lead to fatal haemorrhage, cause irreversible kidney failure and severe local tissue destruction that can cause permanent disability and limb amputation,” WHO added.
