Zenith Bank Customers Can Now Use Google Pay for In-Store and Online Payments
Zenith Bank cardholders can link eligible cards to Google Wallet to make contactless payments at participating terminals and pay online or through supported apps.
Zenith Bank Plc has announced the introduction of Google Pay for its customers, allowing eligible cardholders to make contactless payments in stores and complete transactions online and within supported mobile applications.
The new payment option enables customers to add eligible Zenith Bank cards to Google Wallet on compatible devices and pay without repeatedly entering their card details. However, availability depends on card eligibility, device compatibility and merchant acceptance.
According to the bank, the service uses payment tokenisation technology, which replaces a customer’s actual card number with a digital token during transactions. This is designed to reduce the exposure of sensitive card information and provide an additional layer of protection for digital payments.
With the integration, customers can tap compatible phones at participating contactless payment terminals or use Google Pay at supported online and in-app checkout points.
The development comes as digital payments and mobile-based financial services continue to shape how Nigerians shop, pay bills and carry out everyday financial transactions.
Bank builds on history of technological innovation
The introduction of Google Pay reflects Zenith Bank’s continued investment in technology-driven banking services, building on earlier efforts to make financial transactions more accessible to customers.
In 2007, the bank opened what it described as Nigeria’s first ATM gallery. The facility operated as a branch without human tellers, providing customers with access to cash, including on weekends and public holidays.
The initiative offered an alternative to conventional banking services at a time when customers often had to contend with queues and restricted banking hours.
The bank says its current digital payment initiatives continue that focus on improving customer convenience through technology.
Zenith Bank Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dame Dr Adaora Umeoji, OON, described the development as “digitally forward” and pointed to the bank’s forthcoming technology event, the Zenith Bank Tech Fair 2026.
The event, themed Future Forward 6.0, is scheduled to hold on November 5, 2026, according to the bank’s announcement.
How customers can activate Google Pay
Eligible Zenith Bank cardholders can get started by opening Google Wallet on a compatible device, selecting the option to add a payment card and completing the required verification process.
Once the card has been successfully added, customers can use Google Pay at participating contactless terminals and supported online and in-app payment points.
The bank noted that the service is subject to card eligibility, device compatibility and merchant acceptance.
The introduction gives eligible Zenith Bank customers another digital payment option, allowing them to make supported transactions using their phones without having to present a physical card or manually enter card details at checkout.
