Speaking during the visit, the Indian High Commissioner said Nigeria’s airports are performing very well, adding that each visit reinforces his conviction that both countries have much to gain from each other.

He stated that there is tremendous potential in the industry and that he sees at least six or seven areas in which both countries can collaborate.

The High Commissioner expressed his desire for the Honourable Minister to visit India, adding that the Indian Minister for Civil Aviation, whom he described as a very young and dynamic man, would also want to visit Nigeria.

On capacity building, the High Commissioner said India is ready to deepen its programme in Nigeria, noting that over 250 Nigerians benefit from the scheme every year.

He described Nigeria as a great country, stating that India holds Nigeria in high regard and that his country would be glad to receive the Honourable Minister.

The Honourable Minister identified training, capacity building and the transfer of knowledge as priority areas for the Ministry, noting that the partnership with India should be structured in a way that equips Nigerian engineers, pilots, air traffic controllers and other aviation professionals with the expertise required to drive the sector forward.

The Minister has directed that a technical team be set up to work out the details of the proposed partnership between both countries.

Nigeria At 66: NASRE Congratulates Citizens, Tasks FG On Jobs, Food, Security

Nigeria At 66: NASRE Congratulates Citizens, Tasks FG On Jobs, Food, Security

The Nigerian Association of Social and Resourceful Editors (NASRE) has urged the Federal Government to make the welfare of Nigerians a central priority of its economic reforms, saying the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary should be a renewed commitment to improving the living conditions of citizens.

NASRE made the call in a statement signed by its Director of Media and Publicity, Lateef Owodunni, in which it also congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad on the 66th Independence Anniversary.

The association said while Nigeria had recorded progress in several areas, including infrastructure, technology, entrepreneurship and economic reforms, millions of citizens were still struggling with the rising cost of food, transportation, housing, healthcare and education.

It urged the government to ensure that ongoing economic reforms translate into tangible benefits for ordinary Nigerians, particularly through measures that can reduce food prices, create jobs, improve electricity supply, strengthen healthcare and education, and provide effective support for vulnerable households and small businesses.

NASRE acknowledged the Federal Government’s efforts in areas including tax reforms, infrastructure development, social intervention programmes and the promotion of alternative energy sources. It, however, stressed that the success of such policies should ultimately be judged by their impact on household incomes, businesses and the general welfare of citizens.

The association also called for renewed efforts to tackle insecurity, particularly terrorism, banditry and kidnapping, noting that farmers, businesses and communities cannot thrive in an atmosphere of fear. It urged security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering, coordination and community engagement while ensuring that those responsible for violent crimes are brought to justice.

NASRE further charged the media to maintain professionalism and independence in reporting national affairs, saying journalists must continue to hold government accountable while also reporting objectively on policies and achievements. It urged Nigerians to remain committed to peace, unity, responsible citizenship and national development despite the difficulties confronting the country.

The association congratulated Nigerians on the Independence Anniversary and expressed optimism that with responsible leadership, accountable institutions, active citizenship and sustained economic reforms, the country can convert its vast human and natural resources into improved opportunities and a better quality of life for its people.

Imo abduction: Alli appeals for safe release of Oyo prospective corps members

Imo abduction: Alli appeals for safe release of Oyo prospective corps members

The Oyo State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Sharafadeen Alli, has appealed for the unconditional release of prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members from Oyo State who were abducted in Imo State while travelling to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Abia State.

Alli, in a statement on Thursday, described the incident as deeply disturbing, noting that the young graduates were only embarking on their national service and posed no threat to anyone.

“I appeal to those holding these young Nigerians to release them unconditionally. They are innocent graduates, sons and daughters of families who are now living in unbearable pain, fear and anxiety.

“The NYSC was established to promote national unity and integration. These young people should not become victims while answering the call to serve their country,” he said.

The APC governorship candidate expressed solidarity with the affected families, saying he shared their anguish as a parent. He urged security agencies to intensify efforts to locate and rescue the victims safely.

Alli also called for stronger security measures along major inter-state routes, particularly those frequently used by prospective corps members and other travellers, to prevent similar incidents.

He said no Nigerian should have to fear for their life while travelling for education, employment or national service.

“Those responsible must recognise the sanctity of human life and spare these young Nigerians. Their families are waiting for them to return home safely,” Alli added.

He prayed for the safe return of all the abducted prospective corps members and urged the affected families to remain calm while security agencies work to secure their release.

Oyo APC gains ground as Obidient Movement leader Sunday Oni joins party, endorses Alli, others

Oyo APC gains ground as Obidient Movement leader Sunday Oni joins party, endorses Alli, others

The leader of the Obidient Movement and a pillar of the Labour Party in Oyo State, Mr Sunday Oni, has led thousands of his followers and supporters into the All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging to work with all stakeholders to ensure victory for the party’s candidates in the 2027 general elections.

Oni was received into the party in Ibadan on Wednesday by the APC State Chairman, Chief Moses Adeyemo; the party’s governorship candidate in the state, Senator Sharafadeen Alli; and other APC leaders, including Hon Aderemi Oseni, the party’s candidate for the Oyo South Senatorial District.

Addressing the mammoth crowd at the event, Oni disclosed that he played a key role in the alliance that supported Governor Seyi Makinde in the 2023 election but later regretted his decision.

He said the governor failed to fulfil all the agreements he reached with members of the Labour Party, despite their sacrifices and risks during the election.

He said: “Everyone out there appreciates the fact that our Obidient Movement is strong and virile, going by what we were able to do for the LP presidential candidate in 2023, Mr Peter Obi, despite all odds. But this time round, our efforts will be channelled towards the cause of all APC candidates, including President Bola Tinubu, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, Hon Remi Oseni and all others.

“We are swinging into action immediately, and I make bold to say that the crowd of LP and Obedient Movement members you are seeing here is just a small fraction of our entire population, which cuts across the 33 local government councils in the state.

“We are not here for the fun of it. We are poised to add value, and our impact shall be greatly felt in the areas of mobilisation and sensitisation of voters in favour of the APC.”

Speaking, Alli eulogised Oni and other promoters of the Obidient Movement in the state for taking what he described as a bold step to join the APC, which he described as the only party capable of accommodating patriots across all strata of society for the purpose of leadership service, democratic growth, development and good governance.

“Apart from the fact that I grew up on the streets of Ibadan, I have always been conversant with happenings in our dear state for close to 50 years of my adult life. With my high level of experience, expertise and zeal, Oyo State under me as governor from May 29, 2027, would witness a great measure of turnaround such that it would rank among the best three in the country in no time.

“The youth population will be actively involved in everything we do as a government. Our deputy governorship candidate, Adesoji Adedeji, will be given the opportunity to work in favour of the youth population, which he represents, while workers, pensioners and other people in the state will have every cause to be comfortable and happy,” Alli stated.

APC leaders who attended the event included Rt. Hon. Asimiyu Niran Alarape, Alhaji Taofeek Lamidi, Hon Fatai Adesina, Dr Adekemi Opatunde, Hon Yemi Aderibigbe, Hon Sola Ogunbode, Hon. Olawale Sadare, Hon Tunde Oloyede, Alhaji Shina Alabi, Hon Sunday Aborisade, Hon Tunde Elegbede and Comrade Olalekan Oladejo.

Re: Adekambi vs Alli: Dr. Olanrewaju’s Descent To Soliloquizing

Re: Adekambi vs Alli: Dr. Olanrewaju’s Descent To Soliloquizing

By Sola Abegunde

I have read Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju’s piece titled ” Adekambi vs Alli: Between Substance And Sensationalism” and it offers me a lot of entertainment.

Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju is a seasoned Journalist no doubt. Very brilliant mind, but, he needs a lecture on politics and governance.

No matter how educated or professional you could be, if you lack basic knowledge about raw politics and governance at different tiers of Government, you are bound to struggle like a fish out of the water each time you attempt to defend certain positions.

Very obviously, Dr. Olanrewaju doesn’t know how a Local Government should operate on a normal situation, even, before the Judgment of the Supreme Court obtained by president Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

I will refer Dr. Olanrewaju to a document titled ” Financial Memorandum for Local Governments”.

That document speaks to how funds belonging to the Local Governments could be legally spent.

It will also provide accurate information about the roles and powers of the Local Government Chairmen, Head of Local Government Administration, the Finance and General Purposes Committee, F&GPC, how approvals for funds, projects and how contracts are signed at the Local Government level.

Had it been that Dr. Olanrewaju had proper information, I am sure that he wouldn’t have advertised his ignorance the way he did, in the argument about Financial autonomy for Local Governments which Senator Sarafadeen Abiodun Alli is promising.

He would also have known that his Principal, Governor Seyi Makinde had been engaged in criminal activities in the manner he had been withdrawing and spending resources belonging to the 33 Local Governments illegally since 2019.

Perhaps I need to repeat this for emphasis sake. There is no Law that empowers a state Governor to withdraw money belonging to the Local Governments for the execution of projects on behalf of the Local Governments.

The fact that the monthly allocations for the 33 Local Governments would have to drop on a joint account does not confer any authority on a state Governor to illegally withdraw and spend same.

It is the responsibility of the F&GPC for each of the Local Governments to identify projects it wants to execute, approve funds for same and if the funds are beyond the approving limits of the F&GPC, it will seek approval from the Governor through the office of the Commissioner for Local Governments.

If the project would be executed as a contract, it is the sole responsibility of the HLGA to sign the contract agreement.

That is what Senator Sarafadeen Abiodun Alli is saying. That he would not make illegal withdrawals from the Local Governments funds. That he will allow the F&GPC for the 33 Local Governments to function without hinderance. That he will allow the Career officers to do their duties assigned to them by Law.

If Governor Seyi Makinde doesn’t believe in the existence of the Local Governments and he is not hiding this fact and Sarafa Alli is saying, I believe in a functional and free Local Government, where is the sensationalism in that?

Truth hurts. Dr. Olanrewaju can not, through his essay, which I consider an afterthought, rewrite the fact that, his Principal publicly declared that he doesn’t believe in the existence of the Local Governments, not to talk of allowing them to function freely.

I am surprised that Dr. Olanrewaju is of the opinion that Senator Sarafadeen Abiodun Alli is not saying what he would do differently.

I know that the Special Adviser on Media to Governor Seyi Makinde is not deaf. Neither is he blind or dumb. He is only being hypocritical.

How else does the Allied People’s Movement, APM and its Gubernatorial candidate want the All Progressives Congress, APC Gubernatorial candidate to say what he is going to do differently?

On this issue of Financial autonomy for Local Governments, Sarafadeen Alli is saying, contrary to the illegalities of the past seven years plus, he will not concern himself with the responsibilities that are ordinarily that of the Local Governments.

On Education, he has declared that he will ensure that we go back to the 30 Pupils per classroom policy of the former Governor, Senator Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, now, H. I . M, Oba Senator Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja.

He said he will revive the Broadcasting Corporations of Oyo state, BCOS which is gasping for breath under Governor Seyi Makinde.

He was emphatic about the fact that he would set up a Committee to review the crisis created at the Circular Road by Governor Seyi Makinde within 72 hours when he is elected as the Governor of Oyo state.

He said he would review the sales and handing over of our Farm Settlements to Estate Developers amongst other promises.

On these issues, what are the clear positions taken by Adekambi?

If Dr. Olanrewaju wants us to believe his cock and bull stories about the performance of the 33 Local Governments under Seyi Makinde, I challenge him to ask his Principal to publish the statement of income and expenditures for the 33 Local Governments in the past seven years plus.

He should give us a breakdown of the total figure of the monthly allocations received on behalf of the 33 Local Governments, the breakdown of salaries and allowances paid, the number of projects executed, identities of the contractors who handled projects, the contract agreements, total figure of the Internally Generated Revenues, IGR received by the Local Governments and the VAT.

In the absence of these vital information, which I am certain they will never dare to make public, I want to humbly suggest that Dr. Olanrewaju should go and update his knowledge about how certain things are done.

President Tinubu Receives Nigeria Civil Service Union Shield Award at 114th Anniversary

President Tinubu Receives Nigeria Civil Service Union Shield Award at 114th Anniversary

As part of events marking its 114th anniversary, the Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU) on Monday conferred its prestigious Shield Award on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in recognition of his commitment to the welfare of Nigerian workers.

The Shield Award, is the Union’s highest honours, reserved for individuals who have demonstrated exceptional service and dedication to the advancement of Nigerian workers.

The award was received by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Olorogun Festus Keyamo (SAN), on behalf of the President at Merit House, Abuja.

The award was subsequently displayed by the Minister in his office with the leadership of the union after the event.

The awards were presented by the Union’s leadership, led by its National President, Comrade Oluwole Sunday. He was joined by the immediate past President, Comrade Lawrence Ameachi, who also served as Chairman of the Occasion; Comrade Adoga Gupada, Chairman of the Federal Council, Nigeria Civil Service Union; and Comrade Yildet Bigwan, Assistant General Secretary.

In conferring the honour on President Tinubu, Comrade Oluwole Sunday, National President of the Union, described him as a true shield of the Nigerian worker, a leader whose policies have consistently prioritised the interests of the labour force.

The Union noted that the President’s interventions had raised morale within the civil service and demonstrated a genuine concern for the well-being of workers across the nation.

The NCSU, which has 84 affiliates, is the oldest trade union in Nigeria, with a history spanning over a century and predating the creation of Nigeria as a nation. It is widely regarded as the union that confronted British colonial authorities in defence of Nigerian workers.

Receiving the award on behalf of the President, Keyamo expressed excitement at the honour from what he described as the oldest trade union in Nigeria. The Minister, who was also recognised by the union for his continued solidarity with the Nigerian workforce, used the occasion to highlight President Tinubu’s demonstrated commitment to the welfare of Nigerian workers.

“I got an invitation from the oldest trade union in Nigeria. You don’t understand, the oldest trade union, the trade union that confronted the British colonialists, is still standing on its feet today. That is the union you see here. I am excited because this is the oldest trade union in Nigeria, and you are still doing what you ought to do for the workers,” he said.

He noted that the President has consistently shown compassion for workers, acting swiftly whenever matters concerning their welfare are brought to his attention.

The Minister recalled that the President had recently approved the disbursement of N36 billion to former aviation workers, with payment already in its final stage.

In the same vein, he disclosed that a new salary structure had been approved for workers of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), resolving a relativity dispute that had lingered for more than 15 years.

“As at last week, what we cried to Mr. President for regarding the NiMet workers was an issue of relativity. When I came to office, the NiMet workers were the most poorly paid, and there has been an issue of relativity in respect of the NiMet workers because they perform almost the same functions in the aviation industry,” he said.

“This matter had been pending for more than 15 years. We went to Mr. President. Let me tell you something about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu: all we need to do is tell him that the matter concerns the welfare of workers. He asks, ‘What can we do for them?’ The issue of relativity that had not been addressed for more than a decade, last week, they started receiving alerts. President approved their new salary structure. Not only that, he immediately ordered the release of funds.”

The Minister also recalled that President Tinubu signed a new minimum wage in 2024 and reduced the statutory review period from five years to three years.

“Don’t forget that it was when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu came to power that he signed a new minimum wage in 2024 and sent it to the National Assembly, and it was implemented. But also remember that before, the statutory period for review of minimum wage was five years. President Tinubu said no, reduce it to three years,” he said.

“I am happy to tell you that next year, just next year, the negotiation for a new minimum wage will begin. That is the three-year circle from 2024 to 2027. So in 2027, you are entitled to a new minimum wage. By law and by the grace of God, and with the thinking of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, what was done in 2024 will come to pass in 2027. You will have negotiations on the new minimum wage.”

Keyamo noted that such compassion for workers was what his ministry was also trying to reflect in the aviation sector, adding that he had always insisted it was unfair to neglect workers’ welfare while top management staff enjoyed unnecessary perks.

He, however, noted that the struggle for workers’ welfare was not over, saying, “Like we said in our song, the struggle for our workers will continue.”

Oyo 2027: APC Governorship Candidate Alli Promises LG Freedom, 13th-Month Pay, 30 Pupils Per Class

Senator Sharafadeen Alli
APC Guber Candidate in Oyo State

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, has unveiled a sweeping reform agenda for the state, promising full autonomy for local governments, a 13th-month salary for civil servants, and major overhauls of the education and health sectors.

Alli, who spoke on Tuesday at a high-powered dialogue on the future of Oyo State organised by the Oyo Rising Citizens Forum (ORCF) at an event centre in Ibadan, declared that, under his administration, local governments would become fully autonomous from May 29, 2027.

“My administration will not spend one kobo belonging to local governments. They will build their schools, build their health centres and employ their own workers. That era of stifling the councils is over,” Alli said to thunderous applause.

On education, the senator promised to reduce classroom sizes to a maximum of 30 pupils per class, a policy he said would not only improve learning outcomes but also create thousands of jobs for teachers and fresh graduates.

He pledged to comply with UNESCO’s recommendation of allocating at least 18 per cent of the state budget to education, as well as train and retrain teachers and employ more hands to bridge the manpower deficit.

On healthcare, Alli promised a functional general hospital in each of the 33 Local Government Areas and at least one fully equipped primary healthcare centre in each of the 351 wards across the state.

As a demonstration of his commitment, he announced that he would personally facilitate and commission at least three fully equipped health centres across the Oyo South Senatorial District and hand them over to the state government before the election.

On the controversial circular road project, Alli promised decisive action within 72 hours of assuming office.

“I will set up a committee within 48 to 72 hours to address the grievances of all affected residents. We will not seize people’s land and we will not sell state assets,” he assured.

To revive the economy, Alli said his administration would leverage agriculture and mining, establish at least one cottage industry in each Local Government Area, and set up parabolic dryers in all seven towns in Ibarapa and two in each senatorial district before December.

He also promised to revive the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS), engage youths through vocational and political opportunities, empower women with key appointments, and ensure the prompt payment of salaries, pensions and gratuities.

At the interactive session, participants questioned the candidate on energy supply, the alleged sale of state properties, welfare for doctors and revolving loans for traders, among other issues, to which Alli responded with detailed policy proposals.

Aviation Minister Calls for Stronger Intra-African Air Connectivity, Says Aviation Must Make Africa “Smaller”

Aviation Minister Calls for Stronger Intra-African Air Connectivity, Says Aviation Must Make Africa “Smaller”

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, has called for stronger intra-African air connectivity, stressing that aviation must play a central role in deepening economic integration across the continent.

The Aviation Minister made the call on Tuesday in Abuja while declaring open the 35th Airports Council International (ACI Africa) Annual General Assembly, 76th Board and Committee Meetings, Regional Conference and Exhibition.

The Minister said it should not be easier to travel between an African city and a destination outside the continent than to travel between two African cities.

He called for stronger cooperation among African governments, airlines, airport operators and regulators to develop commercially viable airports, appropriate regulatory frameworks and improved connectivity across the continent.

According to him, the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) provides an important framework for achieving stronger intra-African connectivity, while the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is creating a larger economic space in which aviation must play a critical role.

“When African airports connect Africa more effectively, Africa becomes smaller, and opportunity becomes larger,” the Minister said.

Keyamo also highlighted Nigeria’s ongoing aviation transformation, including the country’s 91.45 per cent Effective Implementation score following the 2026 ICAO Coordinated Validation Mission, describing it as Nigeria’s highest-ever result.

He said the Federal Government was also modernising airport infrastructure, expanding aviation value chains and encouraging private-sector participation in airport infrastructure and services.

The Minister emphasised that next-generation African airports must be safe, efficient, financially sustainable, technologically enabled, environmentally responsible and resilient to disruptions.

He urged participants at the ACI Africa conference to translate discussions into practical policies, partnerships and investments that would strengthen the continent’s aviation industry.

He said Africa possesses the market, people, geography, tourism assets and entrepreneurial energy required to unlock enormous aviation potential, but must build the infrastructure, connectivity and institutional capacity to convert that potential into sustainable value.

Keyamo also commended the leadership of ACI Africa and acknowledged Nigeria’s contribution through the Managing Director/Chief Executive of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, who serves as Vice-President of ACI Africa.

He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to working with African governments, airport operators, airlines, regulators, investors and development partners to build a safer, more competitive, sustainable and resilient aviation sector.

PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY IN ACTION: CHRIS OKAFOR FOUNDATION BRINGS RELIEF TO GRACE NATION CITIZENS

PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY IN ACTION: CHRIS OKAFOR FOUNDATION BRINGS RELIEF TO GRACE NATION CITIZENS

“The Most Effective Prayer Is Praying in the Holy Ghost” — Dr. Chris Okafor

In a time when many are weighed down by economic hardship, the Chris Okafor Humanity Foundation has once again demonstrated that the Gospel is not only preached with words but also with works of love.

The Foundation, under the visionary leadership and spiritual guidance of the Senior Pastor of Grace Nation Global, The Generational Prophet of God, Dr. Chris Okafor, has made charity and human welfare a cardinal pillar of its divine mandate.

According to the Generational Prophet Dr Chris Okafor, Grace Nation is not just a church but a divine movement committed to three major assignments: Winning Souls into the Kingdom, Monitoring their Spiritual Upliftment, and Making Provision for their Welfare which is the true commandment of God.

Sunday, 20th September, 2026, will forever remain indelible in the hearts of Some Grace Nation citizens.

At the Special Charity Sunday Service held at the International Headquarters of Grace Nation Worldwide, Ojodu-Berger, Lagos, tears of joy flowed freely as hundreds of members were lifted out of hardship through financial grants, business empowerment, Accommodations support and relief materials.

It was practical Christianity at its peak. Widows, orphans, students, artisans, and less-privileged families were all beneficiaries of the large-heartedness of the Chris Okafor Humanity Foundation.

The Foundation, over the years, has continued to discover hidden talents among youths, bring them closer to God, and empower them to be self-reliant and productive members of the society.

THE MYSTERY OF MERCY AND PRAYER IN THE HOLY GHOST
Delivering his sermon at the service, the Generational Prophet of God unveiled deep spiritual mysteries.

Teaching on Human Spirit, The Man of God said: “It takes misery to demystify misery. When mercy speaks, misery disappears. A man may be qualified, connected
and talented, but without mercy, he will still struggle. May mercy speak for you today.”

On the power of praying in the Spirit, the Man of God declared The most effective prayer is praying in the Holy Ghost. When you pray in the Holy Ghost, you are praying beyond human intelligence you are praying the perfect will of God. Holy Ghost prayer provokes speedy answers.”

The congregation erupted in intense prayers in the Holy Ghost, as the atmosphere was charged with raw presence of God.

The Charity Sunday ended with thanksgiving, and emotional testimonies from beneficiaries who could not hold back their gratitude to God and to the Generational Prophet for his large heart.

Indeed, Grace Nation continues to set the pace in balancing spirituality with social responsibility.
